Still can't believe this! 5-6 years ago a friend called me because he found 2 binders that someone threw out. They were siting next to a friggen dumpster with some trash bags. I went and picked them up... I skimmed through them and picked a few out for my collection but I wasn't very thorough. The rest seemed to be a lot late 80's early 90's stuff from Topp's, Score, Flair, and Leaf. I was off work today so I decided to pull them out and pick back through to see if I missed anything... To my surprise there were only 2 pages in one of these huge binders that held 18 cards from 1993 Upper Deck SP.... HOW COULD I HAVE OVER LOOKED THIS! There's no way to explain the excitement at that moment.

My first thought exactly. That card carries a premium with a high grade. I'd say it's worth a shot for sure.

Great find! I loved SP when it first came out!

I thought about that. I've never sent a card away before to get graded so I kinda don't know where to start.. And also wouldn't value probably rise when Jeter goes to the Hall?

although the best grades come from a clean surface

if it has lots of scratches on face of the card don't bother

Steve,

The surface is great, corners are sharp, centering seems good.

I do have a concern I didn't notice when I was pacing back and fourth when I found it. If you look at the picture closely, and it's extremely small... But at the bottom of Jeter's landing foot there seems to be a foil issue.. I looked at the card again and it is there.. very small @ the edge of the card. Any idea how much it could impact the value and grade? It's not a dent or ding in the card.

Thanks much,
Bill

Is it on the edge or the surface of the card? If you've inspected the card thorougly and that's all you've found I say send it to BGS.

That is a nice find. The damage appears to be either machine damage from when it was loaded into the pack (seen this numerous times on gu / inserts) or possibly from when someone loaded it into a plastic page. I think machine though as usually page damage chips edges, etc. I would say that since it is noticeable in the picture it would pull the grade down below a 9, but that is just my opinion, and I have never sent in a card to get it graded. Still from a junk pile it is still a great find even in that condition I am sure someone would buy it for the right price just to have it in their collection.

the bottom right corner seems soft and the foil issue may be correctable with some indirect weight like a heavy book placed on the side that is risen on a flat surface

It's amazing how many cards get trashed or ruined. Sweet find!

Any particular player or team you are looking for just let me know. I have a lot of inserts, parallels and rookies that aren't in my bucket due to space issues.
