Looking over these auctions and I just dont get it...people paying all this money for the Letterman cards. These ARE NOT GAME USED cards. They are just letters from the players' name, not from their actual jerseys. Maybe its because they are all do low #'d... either /25 /15 or /10. Folks are going to be regretting dumping all this money into these cards thinking they have something better than what they actually have.
Oh well...wait till the heat dies down and pick up the ones I am interested in.

Nobody does any research. There are still people that think the A&G Perez sketches are all 1/1's.

That's kind of funny, oh well if people don't read the entire description of the item, or are not smart enough to read the card itself it is their downfall!

Knowing that they are not gu, are they essential to any team or player collections?

I am interested in picking up a few, but people are paying actual Game Worn Letter prices for some of these. Not only are they not GU, they arent auto's and theres as many as 25 of every letter. On a SHORT name youre talking about 100 total letters per player. Thats just for the Last names. Other players have nicknames, MVP, and other words spelled out. People arent going to be happy when the price of these bottoms out in a month or 2.

I've wondered the same thing Tom. Although there might be high demand for player collectors (spelling out the name, for instance), I still do not understand why one would pay such a high price when they have no real-life connection to the player.

But what about the people who are trying to complete the whole name? Then there are only 25 sets to go around.

You can say "what if" about anything and rationalize it. The fact is that these are no different than fabricated patch cards in sweet spot. These were never on a worn jersey and have nothing to do with the player other than it is the color of that player's jersey.

I think just the sheer popularity of the letterman series is causing the jump..
I dont think all people are being misled!

Possibly like the Dick Perez set; not everyone knows they are not game-used, just like many think that all the Dick Perez's are truly 1/1.

This is almost as bad. People bid on these Pro Sigs cards thinking they're signed. Notice how the pic is at an angle so you can't see it's printed foil.
eBay Auction (Item number: 330159871680)There's no way someone would spend $4 on this otherwise.

Letters are nice but you would think that they at least get it signed otherwise if its not GUs then don't inlude it in the set.
But overall I think most people know what they are getting, its just that the speculation is driving up the prices.

ebay is a crap shoot. depends on who's looking at the time and people tend to get caught up in the excitement of the bidding war. drives up the prices for stuff over the actual value.
