Just like population in a physical community, increases in population for an online community are often exciting for the community. Most people would prefer to be part of something that is growing and active than something that is flatlined or even declining.

I've seen lots of press releases and news stories about towns or cities that are booming.

Fifty-four is one of my three favorite numbers. Good thing to see it up there twice.

I can't really explain 54, it's just one of my favorite numbers. I like the way it looks.

The other two are 13 and 33. Thirteen because when I was younger I was told it was unlucky and so on, so I decided to like it. Thirty-three because it's the name of one of my favorite songs from the Smashing Pumpkins, which is my favorite band.

I know 33 was on the list, so that's neat I just never want to see 13

One of my favorite numbers is also 13, cause it´s the number of day when I was born; apart from it, maybe 17 but nothing special...
When I go to a casino, I usually play this two numbers and some random.

I don't know if the quantity of members is a good number to take into account and measure the quality of the site; it may help us to know if the site influences on the web. We should take into account the number of new active members, and the transactions made by those members.

It was posted in the contest thread, but it was about 2200.

This has been discussed many times before but is a measure across all sites...for every xxx number of newbies, you get XX number of truly active and interested participants... That is just the law of baseball card sites
