A New Jersey Superior Court approved a motion that would allow an estimated 50,000 collectors still awaiting fulfillment of redemption cards from Fleer to receive one autographed card and two game-used cards for every one redemption card they submited. The motion was submited as the fairest and most efficent way to provide redemption card holders with something in return for their cards. The cards being mailed to collectors were amoung more than 500,000 assorted autograph and memorabilia cards pulled from Fleer's warehouse prior to the September auction of the company's assets.

A judge in San Francisco issued a ruling preventing the sale of the Barry Bond
record-setting 73rd home run baseball until a trial is held to determine who owns the ball. Two men claimed ownership of the ball that landed in the bleachers of Pac Bell Park. The dispute is believed to be the nation's first trial over fan owership of a ball hit into the stands at a major league game.

Five trading card manufacturers, as well as the sports leagues and their respective players associations, all filed motions to dismiss class-action lawsuits that alleged insert cards found within packs of trading cards are a type of illegal lottery. A judge later threw out the case, saying the plaintiffs in the case could not sue because they had not suffered real damages, because the card companies offered something tangible in return for their purchases.
