Tb40
Hey guys and gals due to a lack of team basketball breaks and per a number of requests, I have been asked to start the Monthly Basketball Box break back up.

The guidelines of this break have changed since the last break that I hosted in order to make it more fair for everybody. There will be 10 spots per break. Each spot will run $25, and will consist of (1) selected team and two drafted teams. The only catch is that there will be (4) teams that won't be available to be selected. The two teams that are only available to be drafted in the first round are the (Bulls and Heat). The other two teams that are only available to be drafted in the second round are the (Lakers & Celtics). This is to give each member a fair shot at getting these four big teams. The draft will consist of a snake draft that will be recorded live on random.org and Ustream. Selected teams will be kept by the current owner until they are given up.

Boxes will be voted on by the consensus of the group. Every box will be opened live via Ustream.com. Every member will receive any and all cards that are pulled from their teams including base, numbered, GU and auto cards. If a card is pulled of a player then, the card will go to the team that the player currently plays for. For example, (if a card is pulled of Lebron in a Cavs Uniform, then it would go to the owner of the Heat, since he currently plays for that team). If a dual or triple player card is pulled and includes players from multiple teams then it will be randomed of between the owners of those teams. But, if for example (a triple auto is pulled and one member has multiple players on it then their name would be put in a drawing for however many players they had on that card on random.org). For instance if a card that has Blake Griffin, Durant and John Wall is pulled, and one member has the Clippers & Wizards then that member would receive two chances to get the card.

Transactions will be set up as soon as the break is done and cards will be sent out in bubble mailers with DC on all packages.

I'll take the Warriors. (Changed my mind, see edit below) Hopefully I get a shot at the other 4 teams (Bulls, C's, Lakers, Heat), when do those teams get decided?

EDIT: Can I change my pick to the Timberwolves? I didnt even see they were available until I rechecked. Thanks, Sam

There will be a draft order randomized once all payments have been received. Two of the teams will be able to be drafted in the first round. and the other two are reserved for the second round of the draft (so you'd like to get spots 1, 2, 9 or 10).
Tb40
Ballplayer, I've got you down.

Thank you guys for filling this break up. Let's get some suggestions or some boxes going. How does March 1st sound for the payments to be due? If that's too soon with everybody then let me know. Once we get all of the payments in we'll do the draft randomization on Ustream and get the draft rolling.
Thanks, Matt
Tb40
Guys, we're probably looking at about $230 in boxes so let's take that into consideration when choosing boxes. The extra $20 will go towards supplies & shipping plus paypal fees. As for boxes, I'd like to see a box of 2010 Contenders patches. I'm game for any 2009-10 boxes for some Dejuan Blair Mojo.

Thanks, Matt
ballplayer613
According to Blowout, we can get a box of 10/11 Contenders for $100, and a box of 2008/09 SPx for $130. Anyone down for that?

I perfer a box of 09/10 anything i not to keen on 08/09 SPX

Contenders is Fine with me

mike
pavi39
It looks like for the price we could do the following:

09/10 Court Kings - 1 pack/11 cards/4 auto or memorabilia
09/10 Crown Royale - 4 packs/7 cards per pack/4 auto or memorabilia
10/11 Limited - 1 pack/7 cards/3 auto or memorabilia

or instead of the limited we could do a timeless treasures or a threads.

I'd rather stay away from 08-09. I'm not sure if there were redemptions in the product and if they would still be good or not.

The 08/09 SPx is a nice choice because there are 10 hits (auto/jersey) per box. If we wanted to maximize hits, we could also do a box of 07/08 Fleer ($45, 4 memorabilia or autograph cards per box) and a box of 09/10 Upper Deck ($49, 3 memorabilia cards, 1 auto in every box) instead of the Contenders. That would give us 3 boxes from 3 different years with a total of 18 hits for $224 from Blowout.

Hopefully with 18 hits, everyone would get at least 1, most would get 2 and someone might get 3.
ballplayer613
You are right. 08/09 SPx is great with all the hits, a great rookie class compared to '09 and '10, plus a chance at veteran autos and patches. I also remember reading that there were very few or no redemptions in the product.

Or to spread the years, we could do, all according to Blowout:

$80- 2008/09 Topps Hardwood
$70-2009/10 Court Kings
$70-2010/11 Limited

Or we could do the 08/09 SPx option, with 10/11 Contenders since thats the new stuff.

No offense, but 07/08 Sweet Shot is garbage. I want more of a bang for my buck, not two jersey cards, and an off centered Nick Fazekas auto. Sorry, but its just an ugly product with terrible hits.

2008/09 SPx provides hit for a lot of people looking for RC's, plus a chance at a Lebron or Durant auto. Maybe we can replace Contenders since it will be about $25 in a month, but thats up for everyone else to decide.
Tb40
Alright here are the choices so far:

Choice A:
2010/11 Contenders for $100
2008/09 SPx for $130

Choice B:
09/10 Court Kings - 1 pack/11 cards/4 auto or memorabilia $70
09/10 Crown Royale - 4 packs/7 cards per pack/4 auto or memorabilia $85.90
10/11 Limited - 1 pack/7 cards/3 auto or memorabilia $70

Choice C:
08/09 SPx $130
07/08 Fleer ($45, 4 memorabilia or autograph cards per box)
09/10 Upper Deck ($49, 3 memorabilia cards, 1 auto in every box)

Choice D:
$80- 2008/09 Topps Hardwood
$70-2009/10 Court Kings
$70-2010/11 Limited

Choice E:
PURCHASE PRICES OF : CHARM CITY CARDS
1 2010-11 PANINI LIMITED BASKETBALL BOX -$85.00
1 2009-10 PANINI ROOKIES/STARS -BOX $90,00
1 2007-08 UPPER DECK SWEET SHOT BASKETBALL TIN -$65.

I'm for option B, since I've been out of the hobby for awhile and haven't opened any of the new stuff from last year and this year.

1. TB40- Spurs OPTION B
2. Pavi39- Bucks
3. Maple19- Clippers OPTION B[/D
5. Sportscard Collector- Thunder
6. Straightbutta14- Kings OPTION B
7. Karlito's Way- Wizards
8. Frankiefbcards(2)- Knicks OPTION D
9. Mwood7- 76ers
10. Ballplayer613- Warriors OPTION A

Please lmk if these choices are good with everybody, and please post a vote based on these choices. If we need to tweak a box in a certain choice then please voice your opinion. I think that we needc to keep the choices of boxes to no more than 5 selections. What does everybody think?
ballplayer613
Choice A. And yes, lets keep it to 5, we need to get the break done, so the longer we argue about what to break, the longer it will be until we bust the products.

B For Me

mike
Sportscard Collector
I think these are five nice choices to choose from, so I agree we don't need anymore (maybe a good tweak if anybody has one).

I don't really know any of the products in-depth, so I can't comment much on what they tend to yield or how well they re-sell if you wanted to do that. If I did my math right, the options and the number of hits looks like this:

A: 14
B: 11
C: 18
D: 10
E: 11

What worries me about option B is that there are only 46 cards total. That says that on average we would each end up receiving 4 or 5 cards with one of those being a hit. But knowing the way these things tend to work, somebody would probably end up with 2 or 3 base cards for their $25.

So, since I have no idea how lucky we'll get or what types of hits they will be, I'm going to go with option C and hope that everyone gets something. biggrin.gif
straightbutta14
I go B... my choice is simply on the fact there is more of a chance for me to get a King...
pavi39
Although I realize that choice b has fewer cards, I was looking to try and pick things up from where the last club let off and some things that haven't been broken before. I have very little access to basketball cards in my area since most of the shops don't carry them.

I think the idea is for this club to carry on from month to month, meaning if something doesn't get broken in this month we can certainly try it another month. Trust me - there were quite a few months I had no hits and very little base cards having the Bucks in the last club. I'm certainly not looking for bang for my buck (although it would be nice), but rather to increase my collection of Bucks without having to buy whole boxes myself.

All that being said - I would have to vote for option B myself.

option D seems a good choice
ballplayer613
Since it seems like choice wont get voted, I'll swing my vote to Option B to get this thing going. The faster we get to a majority vote, the faster we can bust. smile.gif

After thinking about it I will go with choice B also.
