Full Version: The Basketball Card Market Takes a Big Hit....
Collector Zone > Sports Cards > Basketball

I just read an article on Fox Sports saying that Greg Oden will most likely miss the entire upcoming season after knee surgery. As a dealer, this is bad news. This was going to be the best Rookie crop since Lebron, Melo, and Wade a few years ago. Now one of the biggest stars of the group won't even play this year. Topps has also invested a lot in Oden. They even go as far as comparing him to Bill Russell in some of their products. Kevin Durant better perform or basketball cards will be a flop again this year in my shop.

Yes, mostly packs and singles as I do not have the space to stock a lot of boxes at the present time but I do order boxes/cases for my customers upon request. My customer base loves to bust packs. They would rather buy 3 or 4 packs at a time until they finish off a box instead of asking "How much for the whole box?" up front.

Wow, Thats Insane, Everyone Was Expecting A Huge Season From Him....But Anyways Im Hoping (i think i will) To Pull A Kevin Durant Auto Sometime This Year! wink.gif

Well it's not a big loss if you don't buy packs/boxes/cases.
If you do yea it's going to suck.

HOWEVER this is one of the best drafts ever so there are plenty of other great players to get instead. So try a marketing approach with the 2 time NCAA champion Florida Gators and local players from/played in TN that have been drafted maybe that will work.

I'm just gonna build my promotions around Durant for the most part now. Everyone in TN hates the Gators as they usually always beat up on the TN Vols in all sports. I am the exception as I am a huge Florida fan but everyone including my customers try to give me a hard time about it.

Buy low sell high. Oden isn't going to be injured forever. At least, hopefully not.

Well..too bad to Greg and for me it does some good and some bad...with Oden out for the year, that means Durants stuff are going up..i already got some cards of durant and its already going to the rooftop...too bad i still collect him meaning his cards are going to be even higher to buy and trade 4...smile.gifsad.gifsmile.gifsad.gif

BTW...could the Oden situation be exactly like Bowie over Jordon?? Cause if it is..then the trail blazers' got some real bad luck..
