Jim (JrLenox) is working on content for that site every day. I can assure you that the updates will be in there....it's just a matter of time. It a HUGE undertaking and he's essentially a one man show as far as getting the content in there...with Bob doing the content section of this site.

Well could you tell them to dig the lead out, please. laugh.gif laugh.gif

I can imagine how time consuming it could get. I knew it was alot of work, but I had to ask. This is why I think a minimal membership fee should be required, or perhaps be an option. Whats a few bucks a year, if it saves trips to the dealer, eh. wink.gif

I agree...there should be (would be) a fee involved with a lot of sites...but Bob and JR's vision is to keep it free to revolutionize the industry by providing collectors everywhere a way to communicate their want/trade lists and do so in a manner that will, in my opinion, give Beckett a run for their money. The developments over the next several months will be interesting to watch...especially when the ripples start to get to Beckett.....we'll see some back peddling from their direction. biggrin.gif

It being free also means that I have to keep my day job. A few bucks a year from even a few thousand collectors still wont pay my morgage (have you seen house prices in London !).

I know things are slow .. and me being sisk the last two weeks have not helped. I'm still the only person collecting, reformatting, and loading data and I'm the first to admit that I'm the biggest bottleneck/risk in this thing at the moment.

The only solution is to get more people involved and have ways they can contribute to the content of the site. I'm working on that ... as well as the backlog.

Let me know how I can help and I'll do some work on it as I get time...mostly on my days off.....but I can do some work for ya if you can tell me what you need done and give me some basic idea on how to do it.

Free or not... the villagers will get restless wink.gif

You're probably aware, but...

I wonder if you could implement something like wikepedia(? I believe that's it) where users have the ability to add content(I have 4-5 lists I would add asap), But ultimately you or Bob would hard file.

Whatever you decide, GoodLuck!

All the offers to help out are much appreciated ...

Exactly right on the Wikipedia idea .. Its a huge success with many people editing and contributing .. so worth copying success.

In early talks about OpenChecklist the Wikipedia model was discussed a few times. Some of the guys from Sports Card Sherriff got impatient and launched a standard wikipedia site but rebranded to "Sportscardpedia"

www.sportscardpedia.org

except for a few die hards, it hasn't taken off at all - and some think there is little content on OpenChecklist wink.gif

The current design is: (with a few concepts to borrow from Wikipedia)

All checklist type data in OpenChecklist (anything = Manufacturer/Brand/Player/Set/Card/Team/Card-Player-Team Links/ and images) can be modified by anyone via the web -

some users will be "trusted" and their updates will immediately go in (with a history to back out if an error is made) updates from everyone else have to be accepted or rejected by OpenChecklist admins... a group sort of like the team of board moderators on this site will be created to do this.

For larger sets, there should be the ability to import a spreadsheet of text file (as long as the fields delimited are in the right order) to count as an update.

with the functionality and dedicated the holes start filling in .. and the site will grow in directions the audience will want it to.

now .. if only I can win the lottery, quit the day job and find time to program in the features. I have been derailed by winter flu season the last few weeks and been sleeping a lot - can't concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes ... but my health is turning around .. so keep posted and keep up the feedback.
