I used to live a few streets away from Jim Davenport and my brother used to deliver his paper. He was always nice to us, but we never bothered to ask for his autograph. I think I might ask him now.

Couldn't hurt to ask. He was a terrific third baseman with a great glove and arm. Signing habits can always change, but he's always been very good with fans and responds quite well TTM.

Actually he added a card. I sent him a Fleer 06-07 card which he signed, and then graciously added a signed 2002 Upper Deck Young Guns card. Very nice.

One Success and One Failure today...

For those of you not familiar with Steve, he was a hard throwing young right handed pitcher for the expansion Padres, 1969-1974. He had an explosive fastball, but had the misfortune of playing for some Padres teams that didn't win too many ball games. Steve came within one out of baseball immortality on July 18, 1972, when Denny Doyle of the Phillies singled off of Arlin, breaking up a no hitter. By the way, his Grandfather is a baseball legend. Harold Arlin broadcast the very first baseball game on KDKA in the early 1920's. in the early 1970's, when Arlin was pitching against the Pirates at Pittsburgh, Harold Arlin returned to the KDKA Broadcast booth, calling an inning of that game with another Broadcast legend, Bob Prince.
