Hi again all. It's time to start planning our October group break! I will post the "proposed product list" below but it will certainly be up for debate as this is just a starting point so let me know your opinions. In fact I'm not that hot on this list as I think it includes too many mid-range boxes that I'd be busting "old school" rather than video so if you would prefer a different selection please chime in!

Went from almost all lower end stuff last month to almost all higher end stuff this month. Let me know if you want to cut some to get more volume instead of the current mix.

I am back with the

Bucaneers, Cardinals, Falcons, Rams, Redskins, and Saints.

The Chiefs and Packers were held for other people so I will wait to hear from them.

I think would be nice to go from volume one month to less volume the next, switching it back and forth to be honest.

I'm in like always. Thanks chris.

I'd like to see more of a mix of products, as well as lo, mid & hi end.

I know we did a little too much old school last month, but this month's proposed list has 2 high end (Exq & NT at 1 pack per box) 3 mid for a total of 14 packs (assuming Sterling has 6 packs) & 1 lo end.

It almost looks like "Hi End Jr." this month.

It looks like I am out... work is getting crazy again, and in addition to that, if it wasnt for bad luck, I'd have none at all.

My dishwasher died yesterday and tonight my battery in my truck died!

No extra funds available for cards. Good luck to eveyone though!

I vote for more product that will deliver, So I like this list we need more National Treasures, Exquisite etc. This list is not bad however as it does look like 09 Absolute is solid but 07s sucked

Maybe the time has come for a discussion about what this break should be about.

As I have said, both on this thread, as well as last month's, I have always liked the fact that this break is a mix of products (low end, mid range & super premium), as well as a 3 year blend.

I believe there is a place for this kind of break, just as there is a place for those who love the premium stuff in the Boxbreakers Hi End Break.

However, the comments this month seem to be heading towards this being higher end break (as I stated before, Boxbreakers High End, Jr.)

If that is the will of the group, so be it.

However, from my perspective, if I want to join a high end group, I can do so by picking up one or more of the available teams in the other break. I joined this break because of what it was, not to change it.

So, let's hear from the group.

What do we want this group break to be?

otter8418
i like the lineup. partly because i like it, partly because that is what chris picked for this month. i know that chris will be not agree with me (cause he is that cool) but i think that people should be happy with what chris puts together for us. He always picks boxes fairly and treats us all very fairly. so ONE month we have a little higher end than usual. so what. I get tired of people second guessing the host. I have stated this other times: if you don't like a lineup or rules that a host has, don't be in it. sit out a month if this lineup of boxes doesn't suit. This is not meant to single anyone out. over the last few months, people have been complaining in all of chris's breaks about something or another. let's think of this hypothetically. if YOU hosted a break and did all this work to package other people's hits and shipped them out in such a timely manner and month after month you had to see people complain about box lineups or rules, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? i know chris wouldn't complain but i feel i have a right to speak on behalf of all who like his breaks and don't want to change ANYTHING. I am sorry if i made anyone uncomfortable or angry; it's just that malcontents tick me off

thanks,

doug

If you are spending 50 or 115 a team your allowed to have an opinion as to what boxes are broken and explain why. I wish more people involved would give their opinion too. There are not that many places you can find people with experienced opinions about these products because of how expensive they are, I like hearing what others think/seeing it from the other side.

Like you said if you really have an issue dont spend the money.
nlr4434
My thoughts as I said earlier are this:

Some months would be nice to have a lot of low to mid range boxes and spread out the lesser hits (so people can say hey I got a hit) like Refractors, Inserts, Jerseys Etc.

Some months would be nice to step up the game go Youtube for most of them with some nicer boxes that can yield some nicer hits.

And I think these months should flip flop.

This month low volume better products.

Next month high volume lesser products.

Doug you are right 100%, and I agree about the work Chris puts into it.

And there is a lot behind the scenes with emails (I can raise my hand on that one as I email him myself), packing, ordering, breaking etc.
accdadeal
I do like a mix as well and am fine with all that, I have been doing this break for over a year now and always will...Chris usually does it right I agree.
bajmurray
I agree that this is Chris' break, & he should have the final say.

However, HE ASKED FOR OUR INPUT on page one of the thread.

I gave mine, & you gave yours, which I respect. I expected the same.

I was trying to get a discussion going, not a bunch of name-calling.
barrow
I'll throw in my opinion, why not, Chris is always looking for opinions.

I pretty much agree with what Murray said. I think there should only ever be one box of Exquisite/NT. I like a little taste of it as the final box of the break, but the rest should be the mid-tier products.

That's not to say that I want to bust Chrome and Rookies and Stars. We could bust the higher end middle-tier. I just don't like more than one of the top-tier products taking up a lot of the funds.

I cosign Barrow's statement exactly how I feel and why I like this break.

I agree with these sentiments as well.
nlr4434
Last month had more of the mid tier (as I honestly do not believe we break the low tier at all) than we have listed this month, and I can point out two current members (and I will not publicly out them) that called "last month one of the biggest flops in a monthly box break group" to paraphrase one of them and their reasoning was the products.

They are in no way blaming Chris in anyway, as he lets us argue the product list, but they made the points that this lower end of the mid tier is about as good to open as a box of plain white fillers.

And I will admit I stole the flip flopping idea from one of them for: Less Boxes Higher Quality Month A More Boxes Less Quality Month B

Can you give some examples of products that you, and the unnamed others, think fall under the lower-mid-tier category that you don't want included? The rest of us might be on board 100% with what you want but you're being a bit vague.

I would just rather see the $500 from the Exquisite box going towards, for example, a couple Triple Threads boxes and something else.

So much of this is subjective. What is junk wax to some is a cherished PC hit for others. I just think the majority of the product in this group should be that nicer mid-tier range: Premier, Ultimate, Triple Threads, Contenders, Letterman, Sterling, UD Black, etc. And then one top-tier box a month, and a filler low-end product or two. That is the identity I thought this break had.

If we're hungry for more top-tier boxes, maybe we should be discussing possible revamps to the high-end club.

See have seen enough cases of Triple Threads to be very scared of that product, I like it, but it scares me more than almost any other product out there.

One individual (who also yatched me out for calling him out indirectly) said no need to list the boxes, as you can go back and look at how bad they flopped, and then see how most of those style of boxes in that range flop as well.

I wish they had been more detailed but they are ###### at me so whatever.

They respoke the point about flip flopping quality for volume every month.

And breaks can change their identity and alter how things go.

I'll take the Bills if they are open?

Thanks

I have to cut back on my breaks a bit (as with a lot of folks, money is a little tighter)

I'm going to keep the Giants & the Colts (until stormfan7 wants them back) & give up the Chargers for a while.

batman1641 will be taking over the Chargers. (He had them before I picked them up back in March)

Please welcome Mike back to the group!

Thanks Brian. Just let me know when you want them back.

My opinion. I hate Bowman Sterling. It's never worth the price. Lots of little hits that have no value. I think some of the lower boxes this year are pretty good. Threads is pretty good. I would rather see 2 boxes of that than Bowman sterling. Even absolute is really not that good for the price, but I know people like the shinny cards. If you pull a Sanchez Rookies and stars base auto or a absolute base auto they are going to sell for the same, might book different. My main request is that we do boxes that are evenly distributed as far as teams. I looked at the UD black checklist and its so heavy on cowboys its kinda unfair. There is not even a Flacco in the whole product. Say no to Bowman sterling, dont get blinded by the refractors.

Sorry guys, I've been out of town for the last 4 days and thought I'd have access to the site but didn't. Lokks like I've missed quite the discussion!

First off...a few things. This group has always been pretty tight so while we may differ as to the types of products we would like to see broken I hope we continue to keep the discussion as to why you would like certain products on the list and try to avoid making anything personal. We've done a good job of that so let's keep that in mind.

As to the direction of the group, I do still want input from everyone on what the product list ends up like but I would like the group to still be one where we have a range of products represented as well as a range of years. The intent is not to have this morph into another high end group. To be honest doing a higher end product on Youtube is quite a bit easier than opening 24 packs per box as a live break and with as busy as I have been (which should slow down to at least a reasonable pace within the next few weeks) last month with all the old school boxes wore me out so I intentionally went higher end this month in the interest of survival. It's not meant to be the start of the change to make this a high end group.

The other part of that is that I do indeed want to hear peoples feedback but even moreso suggestions of what products to include. I would like to include most new products as they are released so we get a chance to see them (thus the 09 Bowman Sterling ahich is not really my favorite either but I think we should at least take a look) but I can also use some help on what types of mid-range products from 08 or 07 that you would want to see as it gets hard to keep the list fresh. We've been together almost 2 years now so we've pretty much broken it all so it really does help me when someone posts a few boxes or even a whole list of products they would like to see included.

That's my .02 plus some change so while I think we need to be set with this months product list since I have to order by tomorrow to get it here before the weekend but next month I expect to go back to a broader mix of products and will be looking for ideas on any products we haven't broken in awhile.
crpalmi
Also, welcome to Batman1641 joining us again with the Chargers and to Chaddude who waited a long time for the Bears and finally got them!

Remember that payments are due this weekend so try to get them in as soon as you can.
crpalmi
Otter has had to drop out for this month so the Texans are available if anyone wants to join us?
bajmurray
Welcome back Chris.

As someone who has been right in the heat of the discussion, I first want to say that I fully understand the position regarding the number of "old school" products last month. (Even though they helped me add some nice stuff for the PC biggrin.gif ) I agree that we did a bit too much, & I like the idea that has been floated around that we alternate months of more higher end & mid-priced.

Just like the discussion on Exquisite vs National Treasures, the alternating of products seems like a nice compromise.

My only outstanding question for this month has to do with the inclusion of both a box of Exquisite & National Treasures in the same break. That's more than 60% of the funds going to 2 packs of cards. Since this would normally be an Exquisite month, would it be possible to swap out the NT for a bit more product (PAM, Premier, SPx or whatever has a good value)?

I am fine with whatever the group (& more importantly, Chris) decides. Just wanted to throu in my 2 cents.

Oh, by the way, my payment has been sent!
