After digesting the news for a day or so, Upper Deck says MLB's decision to give Topps the title of official card maker won't be an issue.

Topps may have won the courtship of Major League Baseball but the Upper Deck Company isn't about to abandon the sport that made it famous in 1989.

The upstart company now has 20 years of production under its belt and despite having lost the right to use logos and trademarked MLB images, it plans to continue producing baseball cards.

Left with an exclusive NHL trading card license and shared rights to produce football cards for the NFL, Upper Deck will have to be creative in its presentation.

I didn't read the linked article so I don't know if this is hit upon, but I'd like to see UD get back into the Minor League stuff. They did a few sets some time ago, but they could really punch up their efforts in that arena and put together some real nice sets!

Any mention on making NBA stuff w/o logos?

When will the madness end? I am so frustrated that I can only buy Upper Deck NHL Cards, Topps Baseball Cards, Panini basketball cards.

Hopefully the NFL doesn't follow suit and allow an exclusive contract. I miss other products in Hockey, and would be the same with Football no matter who had contract.

There are no gu, autos, printing plates, 1/1s, refractors, or 3748937943 color patches. It'll never happen. laugh.gif

Wouldn't you like to see cards that have MLB players with their jerseys on backwards? biggrin.gif

Sad state of the hobby. Rather than go with exclusivity, why not just limit how much each manufacturer can produce????
