Full Version: Gary Sheffield's batting technique

Does anybody else find it odd the way Sheffield waves his bat back and forth while he's waiting for the pitch? huh.gif It looks like he's got the shakes from caffeine withdrawal or something. Oddly enough it doesn't effect his batting ability though. Good for Mets fans, bad for those of us cheering for the other guys.

Another batting oddity that miffs me is when the batter holds the bat up with one hand as if he's saying "I think I'll hit the ball over there!" I think Barry Bonds used to do that, which is why I don't like it much.

He waves his bat like that to slow his hands and wrists down. Even still, he has the quickest hands in baseball. Rickie Weeks of the Brewers does the same thing.

Ryan Howard does the other bat thing you mentioned. A lot of players do it, most do it to imitate Roy Hobbs from "The Natural".

I was thinking of Howard when I mentioned that, I couldn't remember who I had seen do it, or why. Thanks

laugh.gif Thats because when he hit, his swing went from low to high. Had the perfect swing for a 310Ft. wall in left field smile.gif
2000 rushing yards
i heard Rod Carew had a weird stance as well

Julio Franco's and Craig Counsell's batting stances comes to mind. Bat held up high and the top of the bat almost pointing directly back at the pitcher.

mikeaviles stance is weird he waves the bat in a circle before he hits

but he is a solid hitter
BGT Masters of Tiki D
Tony Batista had quite an odd stance as well if memory serves right.

Kevin Youklis' stance is just annoying. It looks like he is dancing with his bat.

Joe Morgan also had a weird batting stance as well when he played.
