Full Version: Make a partnership with a card company

I was watching vids on youtube, and saw that SCF had a partnership with UD. UD sends boxes to SCF, in exchange for them being broken and reviewed on the site. I think we should try to do the same with either Topps or DLP. All of the cards that are pulled would be available via contest or giveaways, and I would be more than willing to host the youtube channel, as well as break anything they decide to send us.

Is this a plausible idea? It would not only get us more exposure, it would give us more cards to give away to members. I would be more than willing to do the product reviews as well!

Nobody has anything to say about this idea?

A partnership with a card company could be tough now, given that some of them are actually beginning to feel the effects of the tough economy (a sponsorship with a trading card forum might be low on their list).

However, I would like it if we could get some kind of partnership with an online, reliable distributor like Blowout or DA Card World. It is possible, as DA Card World is a sponsor with Freedom Card Board.

Hey....FCB ownership is big buddies with Razor (new in the baseball world)....maybe we could get in with Panini in the future. laugh.gif

I don't know if it has been tried before or not, Bob would be the one to chime in on that. I think it would be neat, but as Cody said with the economy I imagine they less likely to do things like that now.

I realize the economic troubles are great right now, but if anything, I think they may realize that this will make them money. SCF's partnership with UD probably makes there members buy more UD products than other company's products, which makes them money in the long run. I think a partnership with a distributor would be a good idea as well. I may have to contact blowout about that.

After receiving a response to my pm from Bob, I've realized that he is right. Although I would love to be in charge of this, he is the one that needs to initiate the initial contact.

I'll let this thread die, and let Bob take care of it.
Cody, Dwight, thanks for your opinions, they are always appreciated.

True - since Bob is the "boss hog" of Trading Card Central it is probably his role to contact the card companies. (PS - I think that's the first time I've ever typed the phrase "boss hog" laugh.gif ).

But, your initiative and suggestions are always appreciated too! I think that some sort of sponsorship with either a company or dealer would be great with TCC. But, it's all about timing and what Bob can handle.

Bob is the owner, it would make no sense for anyone to receive the products other than him.

Chris carlin has sent me stuff to give away here and I have

mostly sets and a few loose cards!
ffman
You think he would be willing to work with TCC on a larger scale as Josh hinted about?

As bad as UD can be at times (I do know through personal dealings), Chris Carlin is a fantastic representative, and I continue to buy UD products just to make sure he has a job. I wish every company had a Chris Carlin. smile.gif

I agree, Chris is awesome, and I wish everyone at UD was like him.

I'm sure Chris makes a lot of money, so I bet if every representative made as much as he did, then they'd all be awesome wink.gif.

Passion is what makes people great at what they do...

In the sports world that isn't necessarily true.

Steve has a nice relationship with him, and Josh used to (not sure if he still does) work for him. That is where the Chris Carlin byism is coming from.

oh thanks for clearing it up

I know this is a little late but I think a card or distributor sponsoring is a GREAT idea. I think it would be a win win situation, more members and traders here, more sales for the companies. Maybe something like that would entice more people to check TCC out, and find out that it's the best card site out there.
ffman
We briefly had a sponsorship with an online dealer (Ernie's Sports Cards?) but I haven't heard much from that in a long time.
