Full Version: What does the McMahons mean for TV?!?

It seems that whenever the shoes (mainly RAW) is built around a McMahon (Vince, Stephaine and a lesser extent Shane) that the TV ratings (which is key boramater for Vince) increase. Just this last week, Vince's reappearance boosted RAW's rating to 3.9 for the fall/winter norm of 3.0ish - that represents a 30% increase in viewership. Just before this week, with Stephanie at the helm ratings were at 3.5 for the last two weeks.

Even days after a PPV or a major star returning to TV has NOT spiked the viewership as much as the McMahons.

So with their assumed popularity with the viewers, do you like to see more or less of them on TV?!?

---

I ask this question because in most instances (like 90%) the McMahons DO NOT help with other streams of revenue like PPV buys (Main revenue source), Merchandise and live shows.

In addition, the more segments they are on the less face time the wrestlers get. Not including the RAW main event, most matches are limited to 2-4 minutes, so there isn't a "build" or "story" to most matches. So as popular as the McMahons are, should there be more of them or less of them on TV?

There's just something about Mr. McMahon that I love; His stage presence is incredible and the villain character he plays is hilarious. I could have watched the promo about kids being spoiled brats/making Hornswoggle join the KMA Club all night.

At the end of the day, when the choice is a McMahon promo or a Rey Mysterio match, I have to go with more McMahons on TV.

Vince has a strong TV character. His facial expressions are priceless. I think his character is good in small doses. The problem is that when he is part of the show, he is the focal point. He is in practically every segment. It just doesn't make sense in the long term character development of guys to have a 60+ year old grandfather getting over on them week after week with no chance of them getting their heat back. It makes guys look weak in the eyes of the fans. Just look at what happened to Jericho this past Monday. He has been the hottest heel in WWE the past year. He was totally emasculated by the McMahons and left with his tail between his legs. Vince's return was well done. I think the angle will play out to reveal that Steph is part of the Legacy faction with Orton, Rhodes, and DiBiase. After all, she is second generation in the business just like them. As for the spike in ratings, I think it was a combination of the hype for Vince's return after a 6 month absence and the lack of Monday Night Football. If they can sustain the ratings increase for the next few weeks, I'll be impressed. I expect a decent number next Monday because they will be coming off the Royal Rumble PPV and folks will tune in to see who won the Rumble and what the fallout is from RKO punting Vince's melon last week.

That is a cool idea.

Stephanie vs McMahon has been done, but it would be funone more time!

I would also like to see HHH be her "protector" and "muscle" in the beginning, but with the eventual "split up/fued" ... perhaps over control of the WWE?!?

I will admit I tuned the dial to raw and kind of watched hap-hazardly last monday but didnt stay up long enough to see vince!

Again many of their story lines involving them seem flat or go just the opposite as expected.

Mcmahon/stone cold was excellent back in the day!

He owns it and can certainly do what he wants!

With Orton punting both Vince and Shane and RKO'ing Stephaine...perhaps this will keep them off TV for a while while HHH defends the "honor" of the family!

Having them on the show more often would make me watch it more. Vince is so over-the-top in the way he struts to the ring, his facial expressions and his over-dramatic yelling that it makes me laugh. For being a non-wrestler,I love watching Shane's matches and you can tell he gives it his all when he's in the ring. Regardless of the fact that she's Triple H's ole lady,I still think Steph is sexy and don't mind seeing her on tv one bit.
