Full Version: Private Transactions?

Had the idea of maybe adding an option to make a deal private, so that only moderators and administrators can view the deal in addition to the people who are dealing.

Sometimes members don't want everyone to see the details of their transactions, so I thought this option may be to the benefit of our site and our trading community. I believe this would increase trading/selling, as members may feel more comfortable and less pressured when executing a transaction.

Why is there to hide? I'm not sure I can think of a situation where I would want to keep the general TCC population from seeing my trade or sale details.

Guess I don't see any reason to want to keep them private either, that and kind of defeat the purpose of transactions being a feedback on person you trading with. If you can't see their transactions, how are you going to have any idea how trades have gone with that person?

I don't see why people would want to keep it private. But i mean it could be worth a look

There are only a couple of reason for which I think a member might want to keep a transaction "private" -

1. He/she doesn't want the amount being paid to be known to everyone.

2. He/she is trading for one of the cards to be a gift/freebie to someone else.

As for #2, although generosity is strong here I can't recall of many such situations as the one above.

As for #1, the amount doesn't have to be disclosed in the transaction topic.

Or because they want to do something "shady."

I honestly never see this happening. Feedback on this site is based almost entirely on members being able to freely browse other members' completed and failed transactions.

If the trade is labeled as completed then why does it matter if it is private or not???

Exactly, so why make it private?
Kmart6nets
Take a look at some of the longer transactions.. Some of them contain information and details about some members you'd like to know, right?

Exactly, if they have all positive feedback and no failed transactions, why do you care if it's private or not?
ffman
Because if it's private you can't see the result of the transaction.

If it is a completed transaction....
ffman
If it is private though, only moderators and the members involved will know about it - right?

Sometime completed transactions don't go very smoothly.

So if I send you a card in a PWE and it gets dinged by postal service, and you just don't want to mess with a replacement, and have the transaction closed. Does that maybe make a difference to other people who might trade with me? It is a completed transaction, but no details as to how it went, or if someone says they will mail one day and mail out two weeks later.

Just some things that do come up with transactions, many more that can send out red flags so to speak than those two.

If both parties want a private transaction, just don't write one up, then it is private between the two of you. But then one has no help from the site if things go sour.

I think that you should not have private transactions as the transaction information gives you an idea of who you are trading with. Say a trader who has 30 private completed transactions approaches you to do a $150 trade, and all sounds good, do you have enough information from 30 completed private transaction to do the deal? Personally I would not, because how do I know those 30 trades were all not for base cards and this member has never traded for over $20. We had a scammer on here a while back who completed his first 10 transactions, then started playing games with a few of his later larger trades. His transactions being open and viewable made it easier for several members to avoid trading with that member. A feature like this would give someone like that a better opportunity to stick it to members.
