As many of you may know I collect Timberwolves guard Rashad McCants...I am very afraid of picking his stuff up now and than him becoming a bust but at the same time I am afraid I won't pick up his stuff and he will come back from his injury just fine...I haven't been in this hobby too long and need to know what to do what will get me my money back..what would you do in this case if it happened to your player..any opinions or help will truly help me
Should I continue to make him my primary guy...should I switch over to Felton or Delonte West or possibly Maurice Ager as my primary guys...should I sell my collection..just I keep it and just stop collecting McCants..just please any opinions would help

I dont know if McCants stuff has ever been very valuable, in terms of what you get for it ($$$$)...but I dont think now would be the time to get rid of him if you wanted to. who knows when he'll play again. not to mention this is the offseason and he was on a terrible TWolves team that no1 has talked about in months. so if you were to get rid of his stuff now, you probably wouldnt get much for it. but if you were to wait and he came back and wasnt the player you thought he would be...then you'd get even less. I dont follow McCants much. is the injury a serious, career altering injury? if so I'd say dump some stuff now and keep a few things. if it's not career threatening then just keep the stuff. unless of course it is selling for decent prices or unless you can get good stuff out of trade for it. personally, I'd keep a few of your favorite cards and get rid of the rest. keep the stuff you know will be most valuable in the future if he did pan out. for instance a Topps Chrome Refractor rookie or a low numbered GU or auto.
EDIT: just looked at your Rashad PC. I'd keep the Exquisite Patch/Auto and the Chrome rookie. possibly another GU/auto. the GU you have....you can always get in the future. GUs arent that hard to get. especially considering the best players book $20-$40....and those players we're talkin about Wade, Kobe, LeBron. McCants GU wont be at that value unless they are auto/GU or very low numbered. the GU are very replaceable if you got rid of them now and he came back to full form and you decided you wanted to get them again.

first off,I want to say thanks for taking your time to reply man but second off this isn't an injury it is just something that has been bothering his knee and they don't want him to play with it and keep him safe so he had surgery on his knee about aweek ago...now he has to rehab and they don't want to rush him back..he has the same thing Amare Stoudemire had last year...same exact thing

Keep your stuff for now since it's all rookie stuff. Theres no point in rushing to trade stuff away. And if your going to trade trade for BV. Really I haven't seen anyone that interested in McCants, his stuff doesn't move too well.
But then again I'm not an expert.
I would suggest you ask a MOD to move this to the Ask the Expert section.

I agree....hang on to your cards. If you want to sell them, now is definitely not the right time....you'll hardly get anywhere close to BV. I would add to the collection if I were you. Sure you'd be taking a small risk cos McCants might not recover completely from this operation, but then again, the rewards might be pretty good. He's as affordable as he's going to be and you might be able to pick up some nice cards and a really decent price.
He's on a team that needs improving drastically and it'll be interesting to see what they do this season.
Furthermore, West and Felton are pretty affordable now....if you can, why not collect them as well as McCants? They won't blow a hole in your pocket and you'd have a decent collection of 3 pretty good young players.

If you think he is a good player, like him, and think he will get better, you have no reason not to buy now while demand is low (based on other responses). On the other hand, I always try to diversify what I collect. Maybe you should pick up a few NBA Superstars while you wait to see how he comes back, or for the next player you want to collect.

This is the risk you take when collecting rookies.

well...that's dangerous. I hope Amare comes back to full form. really the only player who has had this surgery and has come back at an all-star level is JKidd. hopefully Rashad can come back 100%. if you really wanna continue collecting Rashad, now would be the time to snag his stuff for cheap. then again if he doesnt get back to full form, you wont be able to move his stuff. even then, I guess at least you didnt pay much for it.

This is the risk you take when collecting rookies.
The key phrase of the hobby and it is absolute.
As a collector, you should be HAPPY that his cards will be affordable. Don't leave it as an uncompleted project. You should at least have a master collection of his rookie cards.
Then you can look back on it and ponder:
What would actually be worth my time, effort and money if I want to build a valuable collection? Would I be happy if I got 'stuck' with these cards?
And then all would be clear.
That is how I did it. I made my mistakes back in 1991-1999.
Now I collect those T206 museum-like artifacts because it is like artwork to me. And I collect Bengals multi-colored patches because I like the color combo. And I wouldn't mind being stuck with them, either, because it gives me pleasure to own and look at them any time I please. Your collection should have that same effect on you. If it doesn't, then you should stop and do something else with your time and money.
