I've never been that fortunate; "The Joe" apparently is too old to host the draft. Have a great time and let us know what happens.

I attended the one in 97 here in Pittsburgh. It was not as exciting as I expected but neat overall to experience how it happens. Watched the whole first round. If you are going as an autograph hound then take pens and stuff to sign and if seating is general admission get their early to get a lower seat as the rookies were signing along the boards after they were drafted but you had to be in the right area. I got there too late to get that close, but there were a few former NHL players in the stands. I saw one of the Sutter brothers and another member of the Flyers (thinking Bobby Clarke) where I was sitting in the third level. Not sure why they were up that high but guessing they may have been visiting a possible draftee.

I attended the draft in Toronto in 2002. It was pretty cool as I was able to get a lot of people entering the arena. Gretzky signed for some people, but entered quickly and Bobby Orr signed for no one. Everyone else entering was very accomodating.

Seating was available only in the upper bowl, as the lower bowl was reserved for potential draftees and families. After the players had gone through the draft process, a lot of them were out on the main concourse and were willing signers. I was able to get Bouwmeester and Nash, among others. Jason Spezza was also in attendance (probably supporting a friend as he had been drafted the year prior) and was also signing.

A friend of mine went to the draft in Columbus last year and had similar experiences with accessability to draftees and former players.

How did your draft day experience go? It was too bad it was on a Friday this year as I was hoping to attend. Maybe next year in Montreal...
