Not sure where it came from, but I'm suddenly really interested in Soccer. I watched the English Premier League Championship last week (woohoo Manchester United) and it was just so exciting to see the game ended on Penalty kicks! Now I am watching the D.C. United vs. New England Revolution game on ESPN 2!

I can't wait for the Euro 2008 tournament which ESPN is going to broadcast!

Glad you're about to become a big fan of "soccer" laugh.gif
You'll be able to watch Argentina in a couple of days, they'll be facing Mexico in USA I think, on June 4th
baseballguy601
Sweet, will it be on TV in the US?

I suppose, because (up to what I know) the match will be played in USA. Argentina played a couple of times there in the past years.
baseballguy601
All I know is the USA team is a mess.

Actually this game was the Champions League final wink.gif It's a continental tournament for the best club sides in Europe. It's not usual that teams from the same country meet in the final tough so I can totally understand that you confused it with an english league game.

John you have FIFA which is the world body
UEFA - european body

& every country has it's own governing body.

Would you have american football teams from all over the world join the NFL???

The Champions league, John. Come on, it's not that difficult! You're not used to this because NBA, NFL and MLB don't have this system but it's very common.

As others have said, pritty much every country within europe has its own league. However some leagues in Poland or Wales for example, are very small in european popularity compared to the main 4 to 5 leagues. If you wish to follow soccer other than the MLS, I would go for the EPL. Definately the best league in europe!! But La Liga in Spain, Serie A in Italy, the SPL in Scotland and the German league (not sure what it's called!!) are also popular and prestigious leagues.

Don't less this confuse you!! Just think of it as Minor League Baseball. In the minors you get the southern league, Florida State league and the New York-Penn league just to name afew. These leagues spilt the US in areas and the teams within each league play each other. It's just like that in european soccer, each area (country in this case) has its own league where the teams all play each other.

I wouldn't try following all of the european leagues as the volume of info would be huge!! But if you need any more help then give me a shout!

You should definitely follow the EPL, it's the best league in the world; great players and fair play (there are some exceptions but well, in general it's the cleanest league).

for me the premier league is not the best league (this season yes), and the league of Scotland is bad in my opinion.
For me the best leagues are La Liga (Spain), Premier League (England) and Calcio (Italy)

Spanish league used to be the best, so did the Italian, but the corruption cases blew part of its reputation. As regards to EPL, they have definitely progressed a lot in its beauty and quality of games, that's why I chose it over the Spanish.

I forgot to say that the Scottish league must be one of the less competitive leagues in the world, only 2 clubs have a chance to be champions: Glasgow Rangers and Celtic. They have won most of its titles in history.

I obvioulsy have some bias involved living in england, the same way you have to Spain and Madrid!! However with my previous post, I was stating the 4 to 5 most well followed and popular leagues in Europe, in which order they come depends on your preferences. I was just helping out 'baseballcardguy' with potential leagues to watch and follow in europe.
