I know I've been busy asking questions on here lately, but I have another one that's been eating at me.

One month ago I sold an unwanted Best Buy Gift card on ebay. It was for $10 and sold for $9.70. Not bad, I thought. Being that it is a tiny piece of plastic, I sent it in a white envelope without delivery confirmation. Before shipping, I saw the buyer had a small amount of feedback with only one negative mark so I felt no reason to read the feedback. This was my mistake. It turns out that the member actually has 14 negative ratings and 6 of them are for not receiving gift cards. It's just that under the newer ebay feedback layout, seller cannot leave negative feedback without filing an ebay claim first.

The bottom line is; is there anything I can do? I've already issued a refund so I don't expect to get my money back. I would just like to know if there is anything I can do to prevent this from happening again to someone else.

Here is the link to their feedback:

Let me know if you have any suggestions or opinions. Thanks.

Sadly there is nothing that can be done to prevent this from happening to others. Scammers are gonna scam, haters gonna hate. You could probably report the incident but you'd have to ask first where to do that.

You might want to go to the Ebay Community discussion boards to the "auctions listings" board (I think that might be the best one for this type of thing) and also ask them this very question w/ as much of the details as you can safely mention as you did here. There are many seasoned Ebayers on those boards and a few of them give good advice. Of course you also get some of the nutjobs but then most board forums have their share of nuts.

The only thing that can be done is to SEND WITH INSURANCE. The stuff you sell belongs to you! I just sent a couple cards WITH DC and the Post Office still wont do anything. Insurance is the only way to prevent the scams. I have never had a problem with anything sent with insurance, ironically.

Yeah not much you can do and for such a little amount, not sure any authority would care. I hate that people do this, especially for a lousy $10. If I am going to be ripped off, I would rather be ripped of for $10, rather than $100 or more, but sometimes I think to myself are some people really that desperate that they have to steal such a small amount?

I would list the guys name in topics so people know the user is bad. It is tough though as I only check user names and people names for trading via google to see if any bad things are out there on the web like bad trader referenced on another site, etc. Maybe we should be doing this for ebay as well before sending?
