I have not been so active here in a few months. I want to be back on here and there like I used to. But times are tuff for me right now and interent and cell phone were a couple things I had to do without until it gets better for me. Its slowly starting to pick up so just maybe here soon the net will come back on. But I can live without the cell, the GF has unlimited plan and I don't get enough phone calls anyway, so we share! But I do miss being around a lot. wink.gif

I also have not been active the past year due to life. I couldnt even tell you what products are hot right now. I do want to come back in some capacity. TCC will be my only online home for the hobby.

Paul - Great job on promoting the site! Keep it up. Maybe if we introduce some younger collectors to the site they will occupy the boards more frequently then others can.

CHF - Keep plugging away my friend. What a better way to spread the word to the world than YouTube. I actually found out about TCC through YouTube. Maybe we can get everybody kinda create their own "TCC commercial" on YouTube. I think that would be cool.

personally,

I see all sites having a declination in posts, activity, trades, new members etc.

I think you can attribute this to a few things.

Utter disdain for the hobby due to manufacturers overkill.

Complete lack of interest due to no competition from Manufacturers

Redemptions

Strikes in basketball and football

Economy, parents are not willing to buy youth cards due to lack of funds, thereby newbies are not entering the hobby .

Flippers, pack searchers etc take away the fun for the youth

Facebook dominates a teens life, they dont have time for trading card forums!

I have to agree with Steve. The overall economy still stinks, postage rates increased to $1.95 per bubble mailer package up to 3 oz, and the manufacturers really don't give a darn about what collectors want.

It is the same stuff rehashed year after year and redemptions don't get me started on this. I was just going through some binders to add in some recent pickups and was looking at a few sets and thought to myself how creative things were 8 years ago with some of the sets with die cut jersey swatches the size of a quarter and symbolic of something like captain's "C" or an "S" for Speed Demons, etc, etc. Now most are just plain dime size squares or circles, with no creativity. I also noticed that the player selection on the hits was a lot better than now, back then most of what I had in the binder were star players compared to a lot more unlisted commoner players that you pull now.

+1 +1 laugh.gif Have to agree with Steve, the hobby isn't always about what you pulled now or that hot box hitting the shelves next week. It has been around alot longer than most of us here have lived and will probably continue in some format once we are gone. It is just in a lul right now due to many factors, but I think the main one is the economy. I have been buying less and spending more time going through some of those forgotten boxes sorting things out or those forgotten sets trying to complete them as that is bringing me more enjoyment then busting the next big bust.

I agree also, trying to finish my Trade list at the moment and cutting down a little on buying packs at the store, gets costly!
I been trying to lure new members here, and in April me and 5toosweet are going to get a card Show going in Jackson Mi. and get TCC out there! Also heading to Mt. Clemens Mi to hit the card shows up there and use TCCs name at a Table I will rent for the weekend!
There is a Flea market a mile from my home I will set up too, but they charge by the month, will check on that once my Tax refund comes in!
I will be the only card place within a 10 mile area! see how it goes!

Your suggestion, your call . . .

Host it, do it well and do it with merit.

Folks, freebies and contests aren't what make
sites like this work. The mere sense of community
and shared interests are what make us Trading
Card Central.

You can't quantify it, you can't put it in a confined
space. It is ethereal.

Either we have it or we don't. I'm, obviously in the
former group. This is a community of shared interests
and common goals.

We succeed together and we fail together.

I was lurking and reading a few threads when I came across this one. There are many, many valid points as to why the site has slowed down.

For me, I haven't been here for a while because I have simply quit collecting for a while. Economy has nothing to do for my reasoning, it has to do more with the fact that I was totally consumed with my collecting and began to ignore and miss out on other hobbies.

Another reason I quit collecting is because it got to the point that a lot of folks knew what I collect and wanted a kings ransom for cards I was looking for. I am thinking of coming back to the site just to kick around and stay connected with the hobby, not necessarily to collect at the moment. A card company will have to put out a truly unique and AFFORDABLE set to spark my interest again.

EDIT: I am also of the opinion that group breaks have got to the point that they are out of control!!! It is disappointing to come into the forum, hit the new post button, and then have to scroll through two pages of "transactions" that have been created by group breaks.
