You make the Ebay trend sound like a bad thing. For example, I recently picked up a Larry Little National Treasures auto #d /35 on Ebay for $16 delivered. Now, a trader on another site has the very same card and when I inquired about it he was asking about my Aikman, Bradshaw and John Riggins autos. Why even deal with that kind of nonsense? Just hit the bay and buy it cheap...

... in the last month I have made trade inquiries/offers to four members here, two of which are very highly respected old timers. The results of the four: no response, "I'll get back to you", no response, and "I'll have to check" followed by no response.

Seems to me trading is in a down cycle. It's not the end of the world, collectors will still get the cards they want one way or another...

The hobby as a whole is "down". While it is great you only paid $16 for Larry Little, what are the Bradshaw, Aikman, etc selling for? I am sure they are down as well. Those older guys are in every product anymore and now there are not around 10,000 autos in the market, but 100,000 to 1,000,000 based on how overproduced recent products are, therefore those prices are going to drop. That is part of the reason I won't buy high end products like National Treasures, The Cup, etc as the odds of hitting something to make the pack worthwhile is too much of a risk, as well as, if you pull someone good and what used to be a $300-400 auto is now a $100-200 auto currently.

As for trading, I personally think it is postage killing it. $1.95 USPS basic charge for a bubble mailer going anywhere in the US. Add DC to make sure the other person got it and you are at $2.80 for up to 3 oz. That is just too much to mail a single $10-20 card or low-end group of cards. Especially when the market is soft and you can buy most of what you want for $3-5 including shipping on ebay or at shows.

Totally agree with everything you said Michael. Lately I've been busy with buying off eBay because it is indeed cheaper than blowing the 30 or 40 bucks on a group break spot or 80-150 on a box and not get anyone that interests me. I solely collect 1 player and that's it. It's hard enough to find his stuff in boxes or breaks. So I said, "I'll just resort to eBay and get singles and I know what I'm getting and how much I want to pay". As far as trading goes, I haven't traded in months because most of the times the trades are so outrageous,(like the one that you stated), that it simply drives me away from that aspect.

Anyways, good post Michael. +1 from me.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

One of the reaons for the slow in activity on TCC was the lack of proper FTP codes for updates and general maintenance of the site. I am pleased to inform everyone that we now have the needed codes and the site should be back up to full operational capacity in no time! Now lets get on the boards and start trading, buying, and selling!
