Being a married home owner, I do not have very much disposable income. In fact my allowance is sufficient for a few hobb packs or a couple of retail boxes a week. Food? Who needs food. I spend my money on my hobbies. So how are other football collectors dealing with the sudden lack of new product? I am anticipating a flood of retail assortment boxes and such hitting store shelves soon. Left over retail is thrills on a budget for me. I've bought some baseball packs, but don't even know who the heck I'm looking at (specifically with rookies). My local shop doesn't keep much old inventory, so right about now he's got next to no football packs/boxes in stock. Is this a good time to buy older (1-3 years old) online or at shows?

I used to be a huge football card collecter but when the manufacturers started
jacking up prices I stopped.I refuse to pay $6 or even more for certain packs and have maybe a million to one chance of pulling one of the cards I need!
Being on Social Security Disability money is tight and I spend it on what I think
are postive things biggrin.gif

Welcome!

As another married person with a 2.5 year-old son, "allowance" made me laugh. Guess we all have to adjust our hobby spending at some point.

Don't worry though, we're about to get a nice steady flow of football products starting this month. Check out this recent article to start planning your purchases. wink.gif

Allowance aside, I guess my main complaint is the agony of waiting for the new products to arrive. I'm not a big fan of cards of players in college jerseys and especially those without their new team's name/logo nowhere to be found. As for the price of football cards, as I had stopped collecting for awhile and restarted recently, I'm a bit shocked too. In fact, I was browsing around this site for info on the latest hockey and basketball products, hoping those products would give me a better chance to make some great pulls for less than $6.00 a pack. I'll keep waiting in the mean time.

The days of cheap products are gone, if it is new it is hot and the price is high.

For older products at cheaper prices I watch Ebay, and there are a few dealers on the internet that sell older products cheap. I have dealt with Sportscardswholesale (I do not highly recommend them because of slow service, products not always in stock. They are OK if you want to wait 2-3 weeks, but you need to make sure what you want is in stock before ordering so you get it in 3 weeks), and Pittsburgh Sports Wholesale (OK, ordered with no issues). There is also Dave and Adams cardworld, but I have never bought from them so I cannot recommend them. These are the places on the net where I have found older boxes cheaper.

My card dealer also buys "closeouts" (older product at cheap prices) as he has customers who are looking for them. You may want to ask your dealer if he has any "closeouts", sometimes they will even sell you current products cheaper just to reduce their inventory. Hope this helps and good luck searching for a bargain box.
