Draft process

1. Draft consists of 4 rounds of 30 picks per round.
2. Random draft order is determined for each round.
3. Any sport can be selected in any round.
4. Each member can only draft one team from each sport.

With this method, we seem to find a good balance between allowing members to focus on their primary sports while still maintaining the desired level of randomness and multi-sport theme.

The draft will be kicked off with a LIVE event on Trading Card Central LIVE. Club members are strongly encouraged to attend that event or to submit pre-ranked lists prior to that event. That way, the draft can be completed as quickly as possible. As needed, the draft will continue within this topic.

Determination of draft order

A random draft order will be determined for each round of the draft. That random draft order will be determined through the use of the List Randomizer tool on RANDOM.ORG (click here).

Also, determination of the random draft order will be broadcast LIVE on Ustream.TV. That way, we'll all see what happens when it happens!

Click here to view the determination of the draft order for May.

Trading of teams

Drafted teams can be traded between club members up until a specified deadline - before the first box is opened. In addition, members are not required to keep one team from each sport.

The deadline for trading of teams is 11:59:59 PM EST on Thursday, 5/8/08.

Determination of cards

All cards (base, parallels and inserts) are assigned to teams based on the team and logo pictured on the card. In other words, the jersey being worn by the player and/or the current team for which a player plays are not considered.

Cards that involve players from more than one team (e.g., dual AU or GU cards) will be assigned to one of the eligible club members by a random drawing. A multi-player card that includes a player from an undrafted team or an undrafted player does not open those cards up to every single member. Instead, the random drawing is still just be limited to the members that have the rest of the teams featured on the card.

Each pull from the 2 undrafted NFL teams will be given away using a random selection between all 30 members of the club. So, even after all of the boxes are opened, there's still final chances to get some nice cards!

Here are those teams for May:

Seattle Seahawks
Washington Redskins

Transactions

Transactions will be created for each spot that is purchased. Those transactions will be posted prior to the first hobby box being opened.

Shipping

All base cards will be placed in one or more hinged plastic boxes. All non-base cards will be placed in individual card sleeves, toploaders and team bags (multiple cards per bag). All cards are then placed in a bubble mailer. Delivery Confirmation will be used on all domestic packages and the appropriate Customs Declaration form will be used for all international packages.

Disclaimer

Here's the key thing to understand about group box breaks:

The nature of group box breaks is that each participant may or may not receive "great pulls" or even any cards at all (wise box selection should avoid this). Therefore, a member is purchasing the opportunity to take part in the group as well as any cards that result from that opportunity.

All of the specific details would be announced later. However, I am a firm believer that an amount around $25 provides the best balance of overall funds and affordability per member. wink.gif

Again, this group would be intended for members that collect multiple sports (such as me) and/or members that collect one or more of the sports but are interested in obtaining "inventory" of the latest products from all sports.

So, the high-level decision is whether or not you're a collector that wants cards from all 4 of the sports that were listed.

QUOTE(Johnny Number 5 @ Apr 12 2008, 01:14 AM)
so we will have to pick and draft a team from all 4 sports? sounds good sofar
*

This is getting into the details... However, the ideal group would have 30 members. Then, each member would have a team from each of the 4 sports. Teams would be drafted - not chosen up front.

Count me in Bob. As of right now I've only been collecting football but I've been wanting to dabble in the other 3 major sports for a while.

Great idea. thumbsup.gif

I think a draft is more enjoyable than assigning teams randomly. So, we would basically have a draft order determined randomly. Then, just like a standard draft, we'd pick teams through 4 rounds - one for each sport.

As you can imagine, the draft itself could be quite enjoyable and interesting!

so if for example you have pick 4...can you pick any of the 122 teams across all sports?

I would guess it's 1 pick for each sport.

No. We'd set Round 1 as MLB, Round 2 as NBA, Round 3 as NFL and Round 4 as NHL. wink.gif

Would the draft order be the same for all four sports, or would it change for each sport? I think the latter would work better.

I may be interested if well-concealed cash is an acceptable form of payment and if I actually have the money on me.

If, after the draft and before the box break, people would like to trade teams, will you allow that?

I agree that the latter would make it more interesting. I think you'll find that I view group box breaks as events - not just an opportunity to quickly open some boxes. So, that starts with a process that makes the assignment of teams very interesting! For example, would the person with the first pick use it on their favorite team or on a team that they think might deliver the best pulls? unsure.gif

Trades often happen during actual drafts, so why not! The only requirement would be that all teams are finalized before the first box is opened.

Just my opinion....but I think if we do a draft in snake order, and are allowed to pick a team from any sport, it would allow for everyone to get a chance at their desired team. For example, say I have pick 3, and someone takes my top 2 of the Red Sox and Bills...I still have the opportunity at picking one of my top teams from one of the other sports. This would also make the draft that much more exciting!! Again, I'm gain either way....jmo. smile.gif
