This item came from from one of our new weekly features - Beckett Game Notes provided by Beckett Media. Click here to read this week's article.

From the article:

The editors of Beckett Hockey have tracked a number of record-breaking sales over the past few months, but none more eye-opening than a card featuring swatches cut from jerseys worn by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux that sold recently for $7,100, the highest price ever achieved for this type of collectible.

The card, issued as part of the 2004-05 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection, featured small NHL logo patches cut from the backs of jerseys actually worn in game action by Gretzky and Lemieux. Although "game-used" cards (collectibles that feature a swatch cut from a jersey, stick, glove or pads worn by a player in an NHL game) are fairly common in today's highly competitive - and creative - marketplace, the fact that this is the only such card in existence played a key factor in the success of the early-May auction.

Unbeleiveable, well that made someone's day. Still not as unbeleiveable as the James & Jordan, and James & Bryant patch cards.

The seller left positive feedback on the auction as well - 2 days after it ended - so maybe this one actually went through!

By the way, Orlando Macias still has the James and Jordan card so $7100 is more than he has received so far.

I thought the James & Jordan card was later sold offline. Oh well, I hope the guy that bought the Lemeiux & Gretzky is able to get more than what he paid for it when he sells it.

After the few failed auctions on eBay, the card was listed on NAXCOM - but nothing happened with it there either.

I'll have to see when the last time was that I exchanged e-mails with Orlando, but at that time, the card had not been sold.
