Collector Zone _ Baseball _ Who is your surprise team of '08?

Posted by: ffman Feb 28 2008, 12:41 PM

Last year's "surprise" was the Colorado Rockies. What team do you think can turn heads this year?

I will go with the Seattle Mariners and/or the Milwaukee Brewers. I think the NL Central will be real competitive this year.

neither of those would surprises since they both had great seasons last year

i do like the mariners with the addition of bedard though

a surprise team? hmm i would actually prolly go with the Nats

They don't have to be "complete" surprises.

the key word is surprise team, not likely to happen

Posted by: aceecards Feb 28 2008, 02:00 PM

I got two surprises but nobody agrees with me..

The Washington Nationals

and the Cincinatti Reds

Posted by: aceecards Feb 28 2008, 02:01 PM

The Reds will be in contention for wild card and possible shot at the central title

The Nats will finish at or near 500!

As a big fan of them I have to agree with the Nats being a surprise this year. They should get over .500. Their inaugural year of '05 They were exactly .500, in '06 they were .438 both years finished dead last (5th) in the NL East, last year they were .451 and finished in 4th ahead of the Marlins. Of course with Brian Schnieder catching for the Mets now the Nats won't shoot out too many base stealers.

I say, maybe the Astros, Mariners, or Orioles(laugh.gif)

Posted by: lsufball_Fan2114 Feb 28 2008, 04:44 PM

i am going to have to go with the Devil Rays! improved their pitching
plus David Price and Evan Longoria will be superstars before you know it
they could finish 3rd in the AL West which would surprise everyone

in the NL i am going to have to say the Cubbies!
everyone is talking about the Brewers in the Central
it has been 100 years and if the Cubs actually win the series it will be a surprise
the poor cubs always have horrible luck
soo if they get through the season without any injuries it will be a miracle!

The Texas Rangers suprise the world and play .500 ball this year! After the last few years I will take it.

You and me both brother! I'm going to say we finish 92-70 and win the division!

That would be amazing!!!!! What we need is the offense of the late 90's to make up for the pitching staffs ERA.

I would say the blue jays. They could definitely get a playoff spot if the yankees or bosox weren't in the division, but i think this year is the year

Posted by: Hallsgator Mar 1 2008, 10:24 PM

I'm really anxious to see what The Rays can do this year with all the young talent they have ready or just about ready. Longoria, McGee,Davis, Niemann, Brignac, Jaso, and Price, among others. Add those guys with Kazmir, Garza, Shields, Crawford, Pena, and Upton, and that's some serious potential.
