Former WWE Superstar Sam Houston (Michael Maurice Smith) was sent back to prison yesterday for a probation violation to finish a 10-year prison sentence from 2005 stemming from multiple DUI convictions.
Because he was a non-violent offender, his original sentence was commuted to probation as a result of Hurricane Katrina less than a month after he was sentenced. Smith was recently ordered by his probation officer to attend a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.
Smith's ex-wife, Nickla "Baby Doll" Roberts Smith, said Houston left the 90-day rehab program after only 30 days and the judge decided to send him back to prison as a result of this violation to complete his original prison sentence.
In August 2005, Smith was sentenced to 10 years in prison for repeated DUI arrests. He had been arrested numerous times before, with Roberts claiming in 2005 that he had had an average of two DUI arrests per year for the past ten years before he was sent to prison.
Smith's home near New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He worked part-time at a construction company, and also helped his father at a cemetery, which is operated by the Fireman's Charitable and Benevolent Association, near the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Smith is a second generation professional wrestler, his father is former wrestler Grizzly Smith. His siblings are also wrestlers; his half-brother is Jake "The Snake" Roberts and his younger sister is former WWF Women's Champion, Rockin Robin.
Smith worked for NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions in the mid-80s before moving on to the WWE for a few years in the late-80s. He is best remembered for his feud with crooked referee turned wrestler, "Dangerous" Danny Davis who was managed by Jimmy Hart.
