A newbie to the TCC, I am in need of some direction. First post I saw was golfermatt
listing some favorites---golf gloves however and I can't help but tell matt my favorite---
a very used Ben Crenshaw $10 bill I won from him on the putting green before we went out
and played (I paid off hours later in crisp $100's but that $10 bill was not leaving my billfold anyway!!) I should leave story at that but honesty prevails. We switched putters for our
putting contest and due to very bad back, I have used long putter --well, long before
it was cool back in 1987 (I like country before it was cool also.) The best putter that ever lived has no idea how to even hold the thing !!
I have perused the site before but could not determine if right place to discuss an item
such as the following (if not--pls advise, if so, pls advise where to go??)---In 1957, in ebbetts field in brooklyn (last season the dodgers were there as both they and giants
headed to ca for 1958 season,) I (9 yrs old) took my dad's dodger program down the rf line during bp and was fortunate to get a young Roberto clemente to autograph it with the scorer's pencil I had in hand. Autograph is in excellent condition, program a bit dog eared
at 50 yrs old as did not 'maintain" it until early 70's. Couple things of value I think although
I have been told ther is much brooklyn dodger mem. out there and possibly auto. of more value on his own Pitts. team.??? THE PROgram is from last yr. in brooklyn, clemente
is not only playing cf (vs hall of fame rf) but batting 7th in weak Pitts lineup. Also intstg
with it's tobacco and liquor ads (dodger ss and captain pee wee reese sucing down
alucky strike!!) interested in selling, who might i approach? Made iquiry somewhere (ebay??) yrs back and one of "big houses" offered me $900 w/o certification 9not worried
about that as i got it myself and even at 9, few people knew baseball as i did--then but have never been q collector. I grew up on long island, was all state 3rd baseman, came to U Tx
on baseball scholarship and stayed in Tx. Nearby lived whitey ford, roy campanella (i played ll allstars vs his son) and i visited with Roy quite often. I have his auto on baseball
before his accident which was the winter of the move--dec 57 or jan 58, so he never played
as an la dodger. i have his autograph in a biography
--post paralysis where his aide held his forearm which with hand was strapped to chair. The accident
occurred about 1-2 miles from my home on icy streetsas he returned home late from
liquor store he owned in harlem. any guidance appreciated. thanks-- qtrback9
