Alright guys, huge wrestling fan here. I wish I had time to give a full explanation right now but I gotta get to work in half an hour so wet your mouths on this:
Sport is...
1a) Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. 1b) A particular form of this activity. 2) An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively. 3) An active pastime; recreation.
Scripted or not, by definition, wrestling is a sport.
*This has been another definition brought to you by a random Webster*

QUOTE(KHarmon @ Oct 9 2005, 02:00 AM) I agree....I need more convincint....at what point is the wrestling matches governed by a set of rules. Throwing someone out of the ring and onto the floor and then beating them with a chair is something I think you might get flagged for in other sports....but in wrestling it's just part of the act. Like I said before....I agree that these guys are ATHLETES....but I don't see the sport in a scripted "game". Wrestling matches are governed by a set of rules during every match, even matches with no rules. Refs/umps make mistakes in unscripted sports also, when they're NOT supposed to make mistakes, does that make them worse officiators? If football players could take chairs onto the field with them, don't you think they would? Hockey players fight all the time, players charge the mound, football players do some of the dirtiest things under piles.... It is what it is. They just don't use chairs etc... As for being scripted; what about all the games Pete Rose bet on, should those be counted as games? Whether he "scripted" some games to line his pockets or not, they were still games, no? Should every game that contains a player that turns up hot for illegal or performance enhancing drugs not count as a game? Every HoFer? Wrestling is scripted. It's fake. It's a phony. But if everybody knows that already, is it still fake and scripted? Thinking about wrestling and not knowing that it's fake is like hearing the names Bonds, Conseco, McGwire, Giambi and not thinking about good old fashioned steroids... Pure or not theyr'e all athletes, competing, doing what they know they're supposed to do. If you're supposed to win, you better win. If you're supposed to lose, you better lose. I don't see the sport in hunting defenseless animals but it's done for sport. Hunters are commonly known as outdoor sportsmen. I have a more of an issue with that than with wrestling. No sport is pure. Faults range from illegal hits, to contract holdouts. Fighting with camera men/beer throwers in the seats to fights in the pits. Arguing/fighting with officials to allowing murderers and drug dealers to compete. A decade of tarnished numbers due to steroids to athletes dying far too early as a result of the drugs and poundings they take in their respective sport, and even during their respective contests in some cases. Wrestling matches are governed by a set of rules during every match, even matches with no rules. Refs/umps make mistakes in unscripted sports also, when they're NOT supposed to make mistakes, does that make them worse officiators? Matches are governed by a set of rules...even when there are no rules????? Refs/umps make mistakes in unscripted sports also, when they're NOT supposed to make mistakes, does that make them worse officiators? Makes them human....the difference is.....scripted and unscripted. You're entitled to make mistakes....I'm entitled to make mistakes....and with them being ref/umps they can and do make mistakes. Doesn't make them worse officials...but it does effect their ability to officiate in the post season. If football players could take chairs onto the field with them, don't you think they would? Hockey players fight all the time, players charge the mound, football players do some of the dirtiest things under piles.... It is what it is. They just don't use chairs etc...
Football players probably would take chairs...if the rules allowed it. Hockey players fight, baseball players charge the mound, and football players do some of the dirtiest things under the piles. The respective leagues have rules set forth to punish players who do these things including fines, ejections, and suspensions. Not to mention the fact that players do these things in the heat of the moment and act out of emotion.....not because they have a script telling them that is what they need to do.
Wrestling is scripted. It's fake. It's a phony. But if everybody knows that already, is it still fake and scripted?[COLOR=red]
In a word....YES!!!! It is still fake and scripted.
[COLOR=red]Thinking about wrestling and not knowing that it's fake is like hearing the names Bonds, Conseco, McGwire, Giambi and not thinking about good old fashioned steroids. And hearing these names makes me think of congressional hearings addressing the problems that these players have had. I wonder how many of the pro wrestlers have these same problems in and out of the ring that we don't hear about? No sport is pure. Faults range from illegal hits, to contract holdouts. Fighting with camera men/beer throwers in the seats to fights in the pits. You're right and you're wrong here. The SPORT (baseball, football, hockey, basketball) are pure....it's the people playing the games that make the unpure. Illegal hits, contract holdouts, and fighting with camera men and beer throwers are acts of emotion....not parts of a rehearsed script. A lot of what you're doing here is comparing apples to oranges.
