QUOTE(captkirk42 @ Nov 13 2010, 02:52 PM) I'm surprised nobody else mentioned this but that card showing is 1973 not '74, but you are right '73 was his last card. Technically he was on a '74 card but it wasn't his it was the World Series Game #2 card. Here is what a '74 card looks like: 1974 Topps Willie MoCovey "Washington National League" The Padres were rumored to be moving to DC in late '73. Topps thought it (the move) was a sure thing. They produced 15 Padres cards with the "Washington Nat'l Lea." as the team name since a new name hadn't been picked yet. The cards are the same as the regular Padres cards only the team name on the front is different the backs stayed the same. The Washington Variation although rarer is not too difficult to complete a set of now with the internet. Before the internet it was more difficult. Yes I've got both of those. Problem was they were very popular right then (1974) and in school those were the cards you showed off. So mine are a little roughed up. I bought a complete set also that year from Larry Fritsch but they were the corrected San Diego version. |

QUOTE(vrrcards @ Sep 29 2007, 02:44 PM) Even though they haven't been good in a few years I'm surprised Raiders Nation isn't represented more. That's what caught my eye first also. Raider nation has really fallen off here in the last three years. But the biggest surprise of all I think is Arizona! Wow and that's a good team too! 8 people on the forum??? |

QUOTE(dodgerblue38501 @ Jun 29 2009, 11:34 PM) That is pretty cool. I never knew such an item existed. Those would make a great resource for team collectors. Yes, All 26 teams were made then. Pre-Marlins and Rockies. |

QUOTE(finestkind @ Jun 20 2009, 03:33 PM) Willie I sent you a PM with some more info I found. Many Thanks Dave. I am referring to the booklets printed in 1987 by price Stern Sloan. One book was one team. And it covered every card ever printed back to 1952 or that teams existance. I am asking if Topps did this for any other sport. |

Rick was the first player selected in the first ever college draft in 1965 by the Kansas City A's. He played with my other all time heroes of the late 60's - early 70's A's. Led the club in RBI's and homers a few years before being traded to Chicago for the "Answer" after the 1971 season. One of the better fielders of his time making spectacular catches and dives in both the Coliseum and Wrigley Field. Monday played center because he could cover most of right and left as well. One of the many first round picks over the years coming out of Arizona State, Originally from Batesville, Arkansas, Monday was/is a big 6'3" 195. He was the lead-off man in Chicago for many years and usually led the team in Homers. Had the highest on base percentage there with a good eye for strikes. In 1976 had a .507 slugging percentage batting leadoff. Could run the paths well and stole a few bases always leading the Cubs in runs scored. Rick was traded to the Dodgers in '77 and had two more brilliant years there before having back surgery in '79. He played in pain sparingly for LA until 1984 as sort of a player/coach. Announced for the Padres many years in San Diego. One of my all-time favorites. |

QUOTE(captkirk42 @ Jun 8 2009, 02:45 PM) 1966 Topps I had the year and make right off the bat (pardon the pun) but can't place the face. There are 5 or 6 Mets from the era that I'm thinking of. That's the year. He set an all time record at the time for something. Who is this guy and what did he do best? |

Who are your old heroes? Show or tell us who you admired the most growing up. I always admired the guy who rescued an American flag from two terrorists trying to burn it at 2nd base in Dodger Stadium at an away game in 1976 while he was playing CF for the Cubs. |

QUOTE(Dillywill @ Feb 4 2009, 10:02 PM) I went with my lions going 0-16... although many others may not be suprised! Well I for one was very surprised! Remove a little bad luck and that team would have had at least 3-4 wins. I remember the 0-13-1 Houston Oilers and the 0-14 Tampa Bay teams. Detroit was not as bad as either of those two, and that's a fact. |

QUOTE(bigalexx @ Feb 1 2009, 08:34 PM) Don't forget about the Cowboys missing the playoffs. Yeah that was in my thoughts anyway! We also must add: Who would have thought that a 250 lb. LB would be responsible for the longest run of the season's Super Bowl and all Super Bowls? |
