QUOTE(cdoyal @ Jan 8 2011, 08:51 PM) I find it interesting that so many people think the war was about money when there's no shred of evidence pointing in that direction. In this day and age with secrets impossible to keep, you'd think an email, phone call, letter, etc. would surface. It says more about people's cynicism towards governent and politicians than the truth. Say what you will about George Bush but the guy was motivated by principles and there's no way he'd have thousands of Americans killed for money. If you believe that, I truly feel sad for you. Let me ask you somthing.....Just a plain and simple answer too, no psyco babble Where do you get your "Evidence" from for anything you say or do about the war(s)? You may have some extensive knowledge that we dont know about, but unless you do have personal knowledge, how can you criticize anyones opinions or beliefs about the war? As somone who has seen many friends die (to include some very recent) in this wretched place, I have personally asked Mr. Bush why we really came to Iraq (2007 before my second deployment). You know what his answer was? Completley different from the last time somone asked him publicly, and different again from the time before that. That being said, the only person that really knows why he jumped the gun is him, and believe me, we will never know the truth! QUOTE(RGBII @ Jan 8 2011, 09:25 PM) Wrong answers, all of you gentlemen.
The correct answer is the Morticians of the world.
I am not as concerned with Bush's motives as I am those of the true architects of the mess in Iraq. Cheney and Wolfowitz, now I'd like to see either or both in the dock for about seven hours of questioning from a very fine and rabid lawyer.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I would pay money to witness that little scene.
Collect Hard!, RGBII I agree. Kellog Brown and Root.......Need I say more? QUOTE(cdoyal @ Jan 8 2011, 09:32 PM) Again - not a single shred of evidence. Just an emotional hatred for another human being. See above Seriously? No evidence? How about the MILLIONS of dollars that landed in their pockets by a company that they are shareholders in recieving a DoD contract in Iraq? Wait a second, KBR is still here! Making them even more Millions Still! But there is no evidence!

I've never said anything about Iraq other than I thought we went there because of the WMD report and that Saddam had violated a bunch of U.N. resolutions and wasn't being held accountable. And I agree 100% with your well written reasons for staying there.

Roadside bomb kills police chief in western Iraq, wounds 4 of his guards
January 10, 2011 - 13:09
Hamid Ahmed, The Associated Press
BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed a police chief Monday in western Iraq and wounded four of his guards, police and hospital officials said.
A policeman said Monday that Col. Mohammed Faisal was the police chief of the town of Hit near the border with Syria. Hit is about 85 miles (140 kilometres) west of Baghdad.
Continued Below
A doctor confirmed the casualties.
Although violence has ebbed nationwide in the past two years, police and other security officials remain prime targets for insurgents.
In the northern city of Mosul, a former insurgent stronghold, two Shiites were separately gunned down Monday evening in what police described as drive-by shootings. There was no immediately known motive for the killings, which were confirmed by a hospital official.
All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release information.

QUOTE(sasports @ Jan 11 2011, 03:14 PM) The above report is about a close Iraqi Police countrpart of mine that we lost his week. The original question that was asked about why we are still here. Well there is your answer. Yes, that means for all of you non-believers out there that we are getting somthing accomplished here! There are some good people here and they deserve the same life that you and I have in the states! R.I.P. COL Mohammed I haven't questioned acomplishments or the lack thereof in Iraq.
Now that the question has been raised, I ask . . .
at what cost?
100,000+ Iraquis, 4,300 U.S. troops, ???? coalition troops and only KBR (formerly known as Halliburton) and the Pentagon knows how much money.
and who are we, or our leaders, to determine the lifestyles or forms of government in a region that has a culture that is 3,000 years older than our own?

One day my teenage son and I were going over his reasoning for wanting Obama to get elected. His strongest reason was because he was going to stop the war and bring everyone home.
I explained to him two very big reasons why that simply wasn't going to happen.
1.) Barack was going to learn alot that he didn't already know about what was going on over there, and that we don't know ourselves..
2.) Our own current economic situation. War is HUGE business! Weapons, technology, computers, supplies, even medical. With our current economic mess, we can't have all those sectors taking hits, and causing more unemployment, let alone the soldiers coming back and needing jobs as well....
A few weeks ago we re-visited those discussions...and if I remember one of his recent studies...it was war that was attributed to bringing us out the Depression as well.

Tell y'all what . . .
When less than 1% of the population of this fine country feels that they have something to lose in Afghanistan, Iraq or any other warfare that our duly elected Republican (yes, I do blame y'all) congress has in mind, I'd like to inquire . . .
Why are we there?
Iraq is, was and always will be an insipid and purely personal (Thank you, Mr. Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, et. al.) adventure, 4,000 body bags and 7 years later we are still there.
Afghanistan started off as a justifiable and righteous cause. Bid Laden however, is evidently alive and well. 10 years and countless deaths, casualties and amputations since, we have over 100,000 American troops there. Obviously, we failed. That, or there was never a defined mission . . .
Your call on that one.
I can't get folks that think like me to get out in the streets in order to get our nations finest back home. It's pathetic.
Seems "me and mine" are more important than an ideal.
I am truly ashamed of my country. You have no idea of how painful that is for me to write.

Collect Hard!, RGBII Still grinding this eh? Your boys had both houses of congress and the white house for two years and nothing happened on that front. Zip. Zilch. Nada. (GITMO's still open and the Patriot Act is still in effect too) And you still blame Republicans? Really? I've got a news flash for you: Nobody's buying the "blame Bush" line anymore. But I'd encourage you to still keep trying. It's always good for some laughs. Happy St. Patty's Day!
