my mother is in the hospital again tonight. I kept the fact that she spent five days in the hospital last week, including two days in ICU. She Has acute kidney failure and was losing blood last week. They found the bleed in her stomach and got that stopped .

They took her off of one of her meds thinking that would help her stomach heal but now that she stopped that med she started retaining fluid. She gained seven pounds in fluid, so now they have her in there trying to get the fluid off.

Being six hours from home is driving me crazy. Please keep her in your thoughts.......hopefully she will get to go home tomorrow.

The latest as of about ten minutes ago is that she is still in the hospital. Her potassium levels are EXTREMELY high which effects the heart and kidneys. The bleeding that they stopped in her stomach last week is bleeding again now. They're working on getting the fluid off that she had put on with the change in medications and that part is almost done. They're going to take her into surgery in the morning and cauterize the bleed in her stomach again.

I'm packing a bag in case things go south. At this point I don't expect them too. With any luck at all she will be home tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning.

The latest.

Got two calls, one last night one a little while ago. Due to her age and weakened condition they have my mom back in ICU. She is stable and has now added pneumonia to the list of other issues we are currently dealing with. Unless something drastic changes I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go down there.

Got some really good news about my mom today. She is still in ICU but seems to be doing a lot better. They have the fluid off, her blood pressure has come back up to normal, and she might be off of the breathing tube by the time we get to the hospital to see her tomorrow morning.

We're leaving as soon as the kids get out of school which will put us there well after visiting hours so my wife and I will go tomorrow morning to visit. Probably spend the day with her tomorrow and the morning with her on Sunday before coming home.

Just Wanted to give a little update. Spent the last two afternoons with mom at the hospital. The power of well wishes and prayer works. Not only is she out of intensive care , but she is in a private room. They are talking about doing one more scope tomorrow to make sure she isn't losing anymore blood and then sending her home tuesday. The doctor said he has never seen a recovery like hers at her age. Thanks to all of you that have kept her in mind.

Thursday of last week the doctors were asking the family what kind of arrangements have been made for my mom. Today, she got the news that she is going home. Not the "after life" home, but HOME!!!!! They did another scope on her stomach today to look for bleeding. This scope was a longer scope with a larger camera and they found one more small spot where she was bleeding and took care of that. The pneumonia she had is nearly completely gone.

When I saw her yesterday I could tell how much she had improved, even from the day before. Her color was good, she was sitting in a chair in her room and getting around on her own. None of that was possible on Saturday when we saw her, and it definitely wasn't possible the days before.

I'm back home, 300 miles away, but I feel like I'm on cloud nine!!! Once again folks, I really appreciate everyone that kept my mother and the rest of our family in your thoughts and prayers over the last week. The doctors, the rest of the family, and I are still amazed at her ability to recover and how quickly the recovery is happening.
