Maybe this is a good thing - I know there aren't alot of hockey collectors on these boards, but worldwide I think the numbers are quite a bit higher. I've been frustrated for years with Upper Deck's crappy hockey products, this might force them to be a lot more focused to what the customers want and not just throw product out there because it's not their bread and butter. Let's face it, there are just too many series out there and not enough quality sets. This also frees up more money to acquire some great memorablilia to be used in products. As far as football, I got tired of all white jersey swatches from linemen in UD's products. I think Panini will continue to do an incredible job with football. As always, I'll hold judgement until I start seeing some improvement across the board in all sports and all companies (Customer Service, Less redemptions, demanding better quality autos from players...)- because they're going to have to start stepping it up if they want to separate me from my hard earned cash.

I'm just confused on one thing: why would this make you stop collecting as a whole? As much as I'll miss certain products like SPA and Topps Chrome from the respective companies, it has no immediate impact on things I like from Donruss/Panini.

With no Topps and UD, cards might be worth a little more also with the lower number of products produced.

I think panini quality is just poor. That's just my opinion. I love on card autographs...I don't know where my hobby attention lies now, but seeing UD gone will seriously decrease my desire to collect.

If anything i think this could actually help Topps regain the NFL License. They only did not have one because Topps dropped them to only have two companies. With Upper Deck not reaching an agreement this can open the door for Topps. Plus i wont lie i love Panini Football product i think they were great this year and are a heck of alot more customer friendly then Upper Deck ever was

You can always buy singles and/or boxes of older product.

They are most likely going to sell unlicensed product from here on out; they aren't necessarily going to quit the market entirely. They can still produce Football Cards if featured in college uniforms (Similar to 2003 Ultimate set).

I doubt it, hardly anyone shows up to their games, I doubt many people would buy a product. EA Sports tried to make an AFL video game when the AFL was peaking in popularity, and the sales on that game failed miserably.

It could be the start at-least product wise. But this has been coming for a while

Its down to only 1 company for every sport. Yes you can make unlicensed cards but you see how well that worked. Donruss ended up getting sued.

Sales are down.
Upperdeck has a high chance of going out of business. Mostly its non sport card sales are keeping it afloat. They have had huge cuts over the past months-years.
Topps isn't in much better shape either.

I am not going to sugar coat it i think this can be a good thing for the industry. Let's remember in the 80's when the industry was booming there were two or three major companies in all sports. You had Upper Deck, Topps, and Fleer. But you had a lot less product out there. This may be good for the industry with one company doing certain sports. I think it helps create a smaller product flow which can equal out to a bigger turnover for shop owners. I think that is what helped Panini with basketball and actually saw a rise in basketball sales at my LCS. Maybe instead of looking at the negatives, we should try to think of the positives this could bring out. Less Redemption's to have to worry about not getting redeemed, is a first though positive out of the idea of less companies in certain sports
