Collector Zone _ Show and Tell _ My (entire) personal collection

Posted by: ffman May 13 2007, 02:48 PM

After picking up a scanner on Friday, I've scanned all of my personal collection. I just got finishing redesigning my Photobucket, removing old links of digital camera pictures and replacing them with scans.

In my old Sosa and Wright collection topics, some of the pictures no longer work. Plus, even for those that are still working (which I attached rather than linked to), scans will show them much better. So, I decided to start a new show and tell thread - for my entire personal collection. This will include cards from my Sosa collection, Wright collection, Sweet Spot Classic collection, and any other PC card I have. Since I have more to work with, I'll try to provide one picture each day.

First, I'll start with my first game-used card: 2000 UD Ovation Greg Maddux

Please let me know if you think the pictures are too big.

Some say he uses a ghost signer. But, the signature looks authentic when compared to my other two autographs of Wright.

Nice Collection I am looking forward to seeing your collection. By the way, I have been comparing Wright's ttm autos and yours looks authentic.

Nice Maddux GU, Cody. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your collection. wink.gif

I like them like that too. Allows for much better detail.

Posted by: dviv17 May 13 2007, 09:15 PM

I don't like them so huge that one has to scroll a ton over, but I like them that size. I downsize them by one on photobucket when I post scans.

Well, not all of them, but I shrink the pictures before I post them here.

It's one of my favorite pieces - a nice, clean, on-card autograph, of an important player for the World Series 1950s Yankees. He passed away earlier this year.

My first patch, from my first hobby box. I picked up the box at a Wal-Mart Supercenter; I later found out it was an overpriced box, but I did well.

Today I have four cards. And, these are actually my first autographs, but of course not pack-pulled.

In 1994, Nabisco held a promotion - send in serial numbers from a certain number of their products, along with a small amount of money (forgot how much, but it wasn't alot) for four MLB autographed cards. Jim Palmer, Duke Snider, Frank Robinson, and Bob Gibson.

The cards (they're not in a binder page - just in toploaders taped to one):

For today:

I know very little about the player, but it's one of my favorite cards due to the Biblical inscription - the only card like that I have.

For today - one of my favorite cards, if not THE favorite, although it probably holds the lowest book value.

2005 Fleer Authentix Jersey Authentix Sammy Sosa (w/ Majestic logo).

There are patch variants in this set (Patch Authentix) but, oddly enough, this is not part of the variant set. It's a regular jersey - I just happened to pull a swatch with the logo on it.

Woops - I did the wrong one! I meant to put the picture for the 2004 SPx, but I copied the wrong image.

So, for the 2001 SPx, which I pictured, thanks to mvpujols#5!

I guess I will do another today then - I think I posted the 2001 which Landon gave me a few days ago.

I do too - that was fun to watch!

Last week was all Sosa, and the week before was Wright, so this week I'll do random pieces of my personal collection from other players.

Here we have my only Roger Clemens game-used (my other went to Tromni in a trade); this one and the one I traded are both from 2005 Fleer Authentix as well.

2005 Fleer Authentix Jersey Authentix Roger Clemens

user posted image

You've saw me posting about how well I've done with Authentix. Overall, here's a recap of the main pulls I've had from about four boxes of it:

Jersey Authentix Standing Room Only David Wright /10
Jersey Authentix Sammy Sosa (w/ Majestic logo)
Jersey Authentix Roger Clemens
Jersey Authentix Roger Clemens w/ stripe /75
Jersey Authentix Ivan Rodriguez
Jersey Authentix Miguel Cabrera
Patch Authentix Randy Johnson (3-color) /75
Patch Authentix Joe Mauer (3-color) /75
Game of the Week dual patch Manny Ramirez/Torii Hunter /10

The only problem I've encountered with Authentix is bad autograph collation. You are guaranteed one per box; however, in four boxes, I pulled the same two players twice (two of Andres Blanco, two of Jeff Keppinger).

I've considering picking up another box, but I've already completed the base set (and probably almost a second set).

No....his place in the HOF will always depend on how the voters feel about the cork and the possibility he might have used steroids. One more home run might not change that.

There are quite a few that think he is a Hall of Famer though. On an ESPN poll, 68.1% said he is a Hall of Famer; 74.5% said they thought he would make the HOF either on the 1st ballot or subsequent ballots.

Also, 8 analysts were asked if they thought Sosa was a Hall of Famer; only one voted no (Jerry Crasnick). Among those who voted yes were - Tim Kurkjian, Buster Olney, Steve Phillips, and Jayson Stark.

And, here is my card for today, of a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Thanks! I got that card in a trade with SinatraKing - great trader. 2005 Fleer Tradition (which is the set the card is out of) was the first hobby box I broke too. I found one at a Wal-Mart SuperCenter nearby. I found out later it was overpriced ($40, when they can be found around $20-25 online), but it was a fun break.

David Wright hit his 28th home run of the year during the Mets' win versus the Braves today (along with 2 RBI). That puts him two away from thirty home runs (and the 30-30 club), and five RBI away from one hundred!

It turned out that quite a few - at least 47 - had not been cataloged. I might have missed a few, but I added 47 total cards to My Collection tonight.

That pushes my Sosa collection over 200 cards! It's not much compared to many of the other collections showcased here, but it's a milestone for me.

Altogether, Sosa has over 7,000 cards, an amount far too high for me to attempt to collect. Therefore, I pick up what I can here and there. I would venture to guess that at least 50-75 of the cards in my collection came from generous TCC members - thanks to you all!

Hobby. I ordered supplies since I was nearly out of sleeves and toploaders. I didn't want to pay $7-8 shipping for just supplies, so I ordered a cheap hobby box.

Posted by: ffman Jan 29 2008, 06:11 PM

Due to company at home (mvpujols#5, who takes over my computer) last weekend and computer trouble earlier this week, I've missed a few days of updates. Today, I will post three cards to make up for those days.

Being that some of the earlier pictures in this thread are no longer working due to changes I made in my Photobucket, I might post a card which has already been shown before.

First: 2007 Fleer In the Zone David Wright

As this is a card from 2007 Fleer, it probably only books for $3-4 at most. However, I really like the design. Thanks to bushidobard, who sent this to me in a package for free last year.

Lately I've begun browsing the Beckett message boards a little more (don't worry, TCC is still my one trading card site). I made a post in one topic there regarding Sosa. Upon seeing that I collected him, one member asked for my e-mail address. Eventually, he asked for my home address.

The member's name was 'magicpapa' - anyone who's looked around the baseball Beckett boards will probably recognize the name. I received the package yesterday, which contained around 20-30 cards.

Now, my Sosa collections sits at 297 cards - three away from 300!

Yeah. There are a few good members I can already notice (magicpapa is like TCC's aceecards/vicsten/RGBII), but they are quite a few bad attitudes over there too.

Not really "new"; I have always had a decent-sized collection of rookies. I have 1-2 binders FULL of rookies. Most of the players are not "stars" right now, but you never know who will shine.

The A-Rod 94 UD RC came from a 1994 UD Series 1 set a relative gave me as a gift. After the pawn shop pickup a couple of months ago, I now have two.

I would like to find one of Sammy Sosa.

Right now I have the following GU pieces of Sosa:

Jersey
Bat
Shoe
Patch
Batting Circle
Base

I would like to get:
Game-used baseball
Hat
Dirt (yes, there's a card with batter's box dirt - Stadium Club I think)
Foul Pole
Batting Cage (I met a fellow college student who had one, along with tons of other Sosa cards; he wanted more than I could give for what he had though.)

Grades equal all As so far (over 100 in Accounting, even 100 in Spanish and Macroecon, over 100 in Psychology). My other class is graded purely on participation, so we don't have a true "grade" yet. It's called Peer Mentoring. Upon completion of this course all students will be prepared to co-teach a freshmen course with another instructor.

Prime Patches is a very nice product. I only have one problem with it: patch-fakers THRIVE off of this product. But, the same can be said for Absolute Memorabilia patch cards.
