Collector Zone _ Baseball Trading _ Who should I collect?

Posted by: cardinal Feb 28 2009, 08:01 PM

I started Baron Davis a few weeks ago, (hes my fav. player in the NBA) but didn't really think about it until now that I don't really collect basketball cards lol. So I was never going to buy packs in hopes of getting his cards. I really only collect baseball cards, and occasionally buy/trade singles for football. What player should I collect that isn't extremely expensive (baseball only) ?

some ideas I had:

Francisco Liriano
Cameron Maybin

That's a hard question, especially for a collector like myself who is satisfied as long as the player is in a Rangers uniform I will collect it. I would suggest finding the player that holds the most interest for you, their story, their style, their history in the game. It's just whatever it is about a player that peaks your interest.

Who ever YOU want to collect. Only you know who you want to collect, make your own decision. wink.gif

Well, if I were you, I would start by picking my favorite team. Your is the same as mine, the STL Cardinals. Now, pick your favorite player for that team, past, present, or future. The bottom line is, pick a player that you really like. Also pick a player that once you start collecting, the collection will mean something to you. Pick a player that you can stick with and collect for more than two weeks. It might be more than one player, it doesn't matter.

Anyone else? Really leaning towards Liriano, got the idea of a good young pitcher from bigalexx, but am open to any ideas. NOTE: I want the player to be good/someone I like obviously. Also, if they're cards are very expensive then I can't collect that person I just don't have the money.

Francisco Liriano is a pretty good choice. He's very cheap and is very very good when he's healthy. He seems to be right now and has some nice cards out there.

Colby Rasmus is also a good choice seeing as he could be the Cardinals next star, should play for them starting this year, and is the #3 prospect in all of baseball.

Yeah as a long time Cardinals fan ive been waiting for him to come up for a while. So you think Liriano can still rebound after the surgery and missed season? (I really liked him in like 05-06 when he was like 12-3 and striking everyone out)

Oh yeah, I definitely can see Liriano rebounding and pitching well. I don't quite see him pitching lights out like he did a couple years ago, but he's a good buy right now.

Just remember, no one is ever the same after Tommy John.

Yeah I was just thinking that....but according to coltsfan23 he is recovering to almost full health and is going to pitch full time this year.

I'll decide soon.

The only thing with Liriano is, that if he does blow up, I probably won't be able to hold a good collection after only a few months. (Which is what happened with my DeAngelo Williams')

Pick your favorite team-star player on team
Pick a player from your home state or city.
Pick a player that wears your favorite number
Pick a player that plays your favorite position
These are all things you can think about when picking a player or players.
Just a thought

As of now I am officially collecting Francisco Liriano. Thanks to all of you for your help.

bigalexx really gave the best advice. No one can really tell you who to collect - what matters is who you like and what you can afford/manage to trade for.

Whoops, never mind. Good luck with the collection!

Yeah, I had originally picked Francisco Liriano, but asked coltsfan23 just assured me that he would be healthy and could rebound from the surgery. I just thought I would post here to get some different opinions. But I've liked Liriano ever since he came up and never really thought of starting a collection of him until now.
