i think they have a good team

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Dec 6 2006, 12:48 PM

Too bad about losing Pollack and Thurman earlier in the year. And it's ABOUT TIME they run a more unpredicatable offense. baby.gif

Posted by: ChiefinP Dec 7 2006, 01:07 PM

I like to say I hate the bengals cause all of my buddies here in OH are bengals fans, but Chad is not to be messed with. T.J. is a great possession receiver. I have to root for Carson too cause hes on my fantasy team, The Haynesworth Hustlers. Thiet D is horrid though and probably the only this holding them back from a Championship

Posted by: northicehero99 Dec 7 2006, 01:16 PM

Not a Bengals fan, but if it comes down to them or the Cleve Ravens, I would root for them. Ah heck who am I kidding, no I wouldn't. laugh.gif

I like their offense but I do not think they are going to go far in the playoffs although no-one expected the Steelers to last year so you never know. I like Indy, San Diego for the AFC champ this year.

At least they are playing better than the Steelers. laugh.gif

The defense has perked up the last few games and the offensive line seems to be protecting better. baby.gif

I know this happened a few days ago but I thought I'd mention it anyway. This is rediculous..... another bengal arrested. This is the 9th player this year. Ole Marvin needs to find away to control his players a little bit more!

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Dec 15 2006, 11:22 AM

Monday night we will see what the Bengals are really made of. I've been looking forward to this game since the beginning of the season and even more so now since their playoff lives are on the line. baby.gif

u wish... i wanna see a 60-59 game with peyton throwing for 6 tds, carson throwing for 4 (3 to rudi johnson) and rudi rushing for 3 tds smile.gif.. that would make the day saving both my fantasy teams and sending me to the championship tongue.gif

Looks like the Bengals defense is back to their old selves again. I can't believe they got beat on the SAME play multiple times.

The Play:
- fake handoff draw play to Addai while Manning drops back further
- this keeps the Bengals D-Line up at the line of scrimmage while drawing in the linebackers
- once the linebackers see it is a fake, they turn their backs to Manning to drop back in coverage
- no one covered Addai AFTER the fake handoff was realized and Addai was able to find a soft zone underneath
- why were the LBs playing 6+ yards from the line?

Posted by: msuwendy Dec 19 2006, 07:57 AM

You said it Robert! What I can't understand is why they continued to go with the running game when they were trailing late in the game. Indy's D looked very very motivated to stopping the run and they handled Rudi quite well. Yes, Chad Johnson had to leave the game for some IVs because of cramps, but with TJ and Henry, the Bengals still have some decent threats. They were down a bunch and time was running out....would have made more sense to just air it out. They had nothing to lose and Indy's D has had a tendency to give up some big plays every now and then.

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Dec 19 2006, 08:45 AM

The Colts' defense is built to protect a good lead. Their rush defense is last in the league, but their pass defense is top notch. The Bengals ran because that is where their strength would be against the Colts. But it takes up too much time to score. In the 1st quarter it was a HUGE mistake for Marv to call a time out. It gave the Colts a chance to review the play. They should have run one more play, away from Chad if necessary, so then there could be no review. I think that just changed the momentum of the game early on.

The Bengals uniforms did look like a nice contrast to Colt blue on digital TV. baby.gif

Well at least it was an enjoyable game to watch at points. Could not beleive the Fumblers I mean Steelers fumbled the ball on the goal line again and then gave up the big play. And how does Graham miss that field goal? Well now they can join the Steelers in an early offseason and we can root for anyone/someone to beat the Ravens. laugh.gif

yea its sad to because had cincinatti won that game they woulda been in since the broncos lost tongue.gif they had so many chances and just couldnt capitalize... but that game was crazy especially that field goal, it looked perfect it just didnt end that way... what a way to end it though the home town boy coming back and knocking them straight out of the playoffs tongue.gif just imagine if the steelers had beaten the ravens last week though...

Not to steal the thread, but as long as Baltimore's defense plays the way it can I think they make it to the AFC final game, I hope not but their defense won some games and seems to force lots of turnovers.

What a day for Bengal fans today. With 5 minutes left in the 4th, they are getting beat by the Browns 51-38. Talk about your high-scoring game.

Posted by: StatMansSportsCards Sep 25 2007, 04:53 PM

Why on earth would the Bengals sign CB David Jones just prior to the season and not play him? He's from my alma mater and he has a lot of talent. I'm not saying that playing him would vastly improve their defense, but he couldn't be any worse than the corners they have now. They should give him a chance on Monday night against the Patriots.

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Oct 4 2007, 05:20 PM

On the Bengals.com board there is a discussion on "Who on defense would be a starter for another team?"

No one could come up with an answer. Man, I miss Odell. He was the heart of the defense and caused others to respect that defense.

This team is going nowhere really fast. Three years ago they were really strong playoff contenders - especially with that high-powered offense. Now, with practically the same offense, they are going donut. Wah habben?

I thought you switched allegiances to the Browns...Isn't there something against being a Browns AND Bengals fan? Kind of like being a Redskins AND Cowboys fan...it doesn't really work.

None the less, I've always rooted for the Bengals since Ocho came into the league...I like(d) his style. I really wish the Bengals would have taken the Skins trade offer for him during the off season.

Don't get me wrong, I am rooting Browns. I'm just wondering if anyone had any objective input on why a team with such talent is at the bottom of the league. And give me a break - I followed the Bengals for 25 years, so it is natural that I am still curious.

Lol...I'll give you a break! But yes, the Bengals have more problems then we know. I personally like Marvin Lewis and think he's done a good job in someone turning that program around...but things just haven't worked out for him. I think at this point for the Bengals, after the season a new coaching staff be brought in. One that will light a fire under that talented team. I think Marvin could then move on as well and be a great coach elsewhere in the league.

Bet that was a cold game!!!!

I know they had some guys out but the Bengals will need to pay better up front on defense and force the Jets to throw if they want any chance next week. Was worried about Sanchez in that weather but he looked pretty good when he did throw the ball. Wildcat was also very effective for Jets.

Could be a totally different game next week but hoping the Jets momentum will carry up to Cincy!

And at least no matter who wins next week, you'll have a team to root for the following week. Cincy or hometown Jets!

Posted by: yankeesjetsfan Jan 4 2010, 11:59 AM

I actually think the Jets can win in Cincy. I love the defense and if Sanchez can keep the mistakes to a minimum and the "Ground and Pound" attack continues, there should be no reason for the Jets to make it to the second round.

From the Bengals Forum:

That this Saturday they will be facing a different Bengals team than the one they thoroughly dismantled and embarrassed on Sunday.

I think our starters did try to win, but weren't focused (same thing happened in 2005 when they clinched before they 'rested' their starters against KC), at least offensively.

This Saturday, the Jets will face a focused team.
This Saturday, the Jets will face an angry team.
This Saturday, the Jets will face a prepared team.

Thanks, Rex, for pulling out all the stops and giving our coaches a multitude of looks that we can gameplan for. Granted, he had to or they wouldn't have won, but still ...

I reeeeeeeally hope the Jets expect that same Cincy team on Saturday. Heck, as long as Sanchez expects them, we'll be alright.

---

I don't think the Bengals hustled anyone. I think they did try to win, I just think the offense - the receivers especially - was unfocused. I think the defense, while not pulling out ALL the stops, did make an effort and they were thoroughly demolished.

However, one thing about this year's coaching staff (well, Zimmer anyway), is that he makes adjustments. Trust me, this game on Saturday will be COMPLETELY different.

---

I was thinking the same thing... It was obvious when Scott made the start at RB that we weren't going all out. I honestly think that we kept Palmer in to run plays that would show their defense. This will be a much different team next week.

I also think Chad did a super job at getting Revis to show his best stuff... now it's on film and Chad has experienced it first hand.

I've predicted a 35-17 Bengals win... Sanchez will throw 3 picks... at least one will be a pick 6.

I would also expect Scott to break one on a KO... he was close last night. Good to see him back there again.

We get Peko and Crocker back on the D... that will be huge. They will come into the game with a similar game plan and I believe we will have the right pieces to shut it down.

---

With the way the bengals played last night, ryan couldve went half hearted and still thoroughly destroyed the bengals

---

Okay... but... the oddsmakers in Vegas thinks it was a very good hustle. Unless they saw a different game than you or me, they didn't think the win was legit. Otherwise, the Jets would be favored... BIG TIME!

But they're not... Bengals are.

Those guys in Vegas? They're professional hustlers. They know when a hustle is happening. They didn't buy the "act". That's why the line is where it is.

YES, absolutely the game on Saturday will be completely different. That's why it's a good hustle!

---

And finally a Jets fan on the Bengal Boards
You're wrong if you think the Jets ran one single play on Sunday night that they haven't ran all year on both offense and defense multiple times. The Jets didn't show anything that your awful coach didn't watch on tape 50 times during the week... The Bengals just might win on Saturday, but it's not because the Jets gave away some mysterious secret weapon... but if the Bungles lose... your coach has to go, and it's time to get Kenny Anderson in their as HC.

I like the last sentence.... smile.gif

TO and Ohco will open up holes for each other! Now teams will have to cover 2 great receivers! wink.gif

Bah. My prediction for them in the upcoming season:

T.O. and Ochocinco will be listed as questionable each week with bruised egos.

Because I put up with them year in, year out. How would you feel cheering a team on that you KNOW has the talent to be a perennial contender only to be reigned in by poor playcalling and predictability? They have to beef up their pass protection, but they decided to get name players and other positions that only need minimal work. It looks like they don't understand the concept of "it all starts with controlling the line".

YES!!!! I was hoping they would draft this guy but then they don't get him. And then he falls into their lap just before the season starts. http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Technical-backup/f664fc88-25b0-4d17-8185-7ebcf794b26f

The problem might be Carson Palmer and the offensive coordinator. As much as I like Palmer, he just doesn't have it anymore. And with the OC, I NEVER see passes attempted while the receiver is still running - always up, turn, stop, drop.

And I think the defense is resting on their laurels.

I'm a huge Palmer fan and supporter, but I have to agree with you. Palmer has been horrible these last 2 seasons. In all honesty, he's only had 1 really good year, in 2005. He had good statistical seasons in 2006 & 2007, but if you watched him play, you could see he wasn't the same guy we saw in 2005.

I know it's wishful thinking, because I like him, but I really hope he can turn his play around...

The defense has definitely taken a step back this year. We are in desperate need of a pass rush. I believe in Zimmer though.

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Nov 8 2010, 09:15 PM

If anyone who is watching the games without knowing the scores had to match 0-8, 1-6, 2-5 with Cowboys, Bengals, and Bills, the answers would be totally different from reality.

Posted by: Gottabe Nov 16 2010, 12:50 PM

Tired of Bratowski as well. I mean it's pretty well known that he has developed several 1000 yd. RB's But his QB production hasn't been "stellar" to say the least. Our back up QB's aren't of much quality either. He's been there longer than Carson and Chad. Both really good players, but other than 05 we haven't really lit it up in the passing game.
The offense seems determined at times to MAKE things work, when they don't and the only thing to resemble a fluid offense this year, is normally how fast they run on the field and without barely breaking stride, they are running back off the field from another missed conversion.

It's been a tiring year helpsmilie.gif

Hey indy I just noticed this

The Last time the Bengals beat the Bills:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last time the Cincinnatti Bengals beat the Buffalo Bills in a regular season contest:

Ronald Reagan entered into his last year in the Oval Office.

The Soviet Union began its "Perestroika" campaign.

Republican presidential candidate George H.W. Bush famously uttered the words "Read my lips: No new taxes!" and later beat out Michael Dukakis for the presidency.

The U.S. unveiled the Stealth Bomber.

The Hubble space telescope was launched.

It was revealed that pop group Milli Vanilli had been lip-synching on their albums.

The top 3 movies of the year included "Rain Man", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", and "Coming to America", with "Rain Man" taking home Best Picture honors at the Oscars.

The number 1 song on the Billboard charts to start the year was George Michael's "Faith".

The number 1 song on the Billboard charts to end the year was Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorns".

Nintendo was hard at work creating their new, groundbreaking videogame console: The Gameboy.

The "Showtime" Lakers won the NBA Title, Gibbs' Redskins won the Super Bowl, and the LA Dodgers won the World Series.

The average cost of gasoline per gallon was $1.05

Movie tickets cost an average of $3.50

Average rent, per month, was $420.00

So...Its been 22 years since the Bengals defeated the Buffalo Bills in the regular season. The Bills have won 9 in a row dating back to....you guessed it (or googled it): 1988. Here's to another win for the Bills this Sunday, and another 22 years of dominance over the Bengals!

Yes, really. Palmer just doesn't have it anymore. Fitzpatrick is finally getting his chance. They took away to main weapons and he's done as best as he could and kept them competitive and close up to the last minute. Palmer has all the talent around him, but you can see him over/underthrow his receivers more often than not. Maybe it's the coach calling the plays, I don't know. All I know is that he doesn't have that spark, that hunger the way it was in 2005.

Bengals were the #2 defense last season. So what happened? There were no major changes on defense. It must be the coaching staff.

Looking back at the last game, the defense did its job of holding the Steelers offense to only 3 field goals. The offense gave away 2 TDs and could only score one for themselves. Something is wrong and I think this team needs a major overhaul - starting from the top.

Posted by: Gottabe Dec 27 2010, 09:52 AM

I actually had given up on Simpson. From all the reports and his not playing, the team getting new recievers and all. He had a heck of a game.
I didn't realize ha actually has some size to him. I thought he looked an awful lot like Slim out there yesterday. I think it may have been the best Caldwell looked as well. I don't see T.O. coming back. Chad? I think he comes back, just not at the current option price. I'd keep him for at least one more year, if the price is right.

Being that I grew up 15 mins from what ued to be riverfront stadium, I have to share my 2 cents worth here. While, I have seen flashes of greatness, and flashes of dissapointment, at the end of the day, the Bengals, are well.......the Bengals.

Part of it was Bratkowski, and "losing" the team, part of it was when Chris Henry died, there went Carson's "go to deep receiver", who could stretch the field. Defense was same, but they have no "legitmate" pass rusher, a la Jared Allen, for example...

T.O. Was the only ###### bright spot they had last year, and if, and I say IF they had any sense whatsoever, they would bring him back, but they wont..We are going back to another "transition" stage, with Jay Gruden, and Lewis. Ocho will be gone, they need, and BETTER draft A.J. Green, another dang (Randy Moss) in his prime.

Call Carson's bluff, he hasnt been the same, sice his injury, you can go after a Vince Young, Donovan McNabb, or even a Kevin Kolb, to play with the younger players...If he has that much ###### money, go cry back to USC, and sip ur margaritas while playing golf in L.A., we dont need him anyway..

But Bengal Nation, just like in the case of the Raider Nation, with Al Davis, as long as Mike Brown is running that team, YES Mike Brown, NOT Marvin Lewis, the days of "commitment to excellence" in Cincy, will NEVER be there...

And if anyone thinks Brown isnt calling the shots, here is a shout-out: when the redskins offered a 1st rd pick, and 3rd round pk, for Ocho, he wouldnt budge, so beleive me, Carson will retire, as the Bengals WILL call his BLUFF..

Hope 2011 is better though, we will see...Benson is a free agent, they NEED to get bk to RUNNING the ball 1st, PASS 2nd, that is why we swept the division in 2009...

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Oct 8 2011, 10:10 AM

Andy "The Red Rifle" Dalton - Calm, cool and collected. Doesn't panic. If he gets sacked, the only thing he'll do is say "Okay, you got me" and moves on. He trusts his defense to hold the other team and get the ball back. When compared to the other QBs in the draft, there were those with more pizzazz, better footwork, and/or a better arm. But when it came to weakness, Andy had the least out of all of them. And he has the kind of weaknesses that can be eliminated in time. I'm very excited for this kid. It's the first time in a long time that we had some sort of leader on the team.

It really does look like the beginning of a new era.

From CBSsports.com:

On Tuesday, Oakland shocked the world by dealing two first-round draft picks -- a 2012 first-rounder and a 2013 conditional first-rounder -- for Carson Palmer, retired Bengals quarterback.

One of the names I mentioned in Sorting the Sunday Pile for the Raiders in their search to replace Jason Campbell was retired Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer. But even though the Raiders were reportedly trying to get Palmer, it seemed a highly unlikely end result, given the stubborn nature of Cincy owner Mike Brown.

But Oakland found a way to pry Palmer away from the Bengals, dealing a 2012 first-round draft pick and a 2013 conditional first-round pick to the Bengals for the no-longer-retired quarterback. Reports indicate that the 2013 conditional pick is a first-round pick only if Oakland wins at least one playoff game.

CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman confirms that the trade -- as originally reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports -- is a done deal. Glazer noted that Hue Jackson's close relationship with Brown -- Jackson was the former wide receivers coach in Cincinnati -- helped grease the wheels.

What likely helped grease the wheels more? The first-round draft pick that the Raiders gave the Bengals ... because they had to. As Ryan noted yesterday, the Raiders aren't exactly stocked with draft picks these days, having already given up their second-, fourth- and seventh-round picks in trades, and used their third-round pick on Terrelle Pryor.
In other words, the Raiders only had one real pick of value in 2012 to give up, and they were apparently willing to move it in order to make themselves a contender for the remainder of the year.

More than anything, though, Mike Brown deserves a tremendous round of applause for absolutely crushing this scenario with Palmer. He called the quarterback's bluff, refused to deal the quarterback, landed a new franchise guy in Andy Dalton, and then when a team got really desperate, received two first-round picks in exchange.

The conditional pick is likely something that involves the Raiders making the postseason and/or riding Palmer to the Super Bowl; at least one would hope anyway. Otherwise, Oakland has, once again, undervalued draft picks.

It's worth noting, though, that the Raiders are anticipating a slew of compensatory draft picks in 2012, because free agents Nnamdi Asomugha, Zach Miller, Robert Gallery and Thomas Howard all departed the Bay Area.

Also worth noting: Jason Campbell's time as a Raider is now finished, for all intents and purposes. He's a free agent after this season and given the committment Oakland gave to Palmer plus Campbell's injury, it's hard to imagine him playing another snap for Oakland.

They are, at least now, all in on Carson Palmer.

I like the move, always thought M. Brown was a business guy first.

Young line up, a good record right now, future early round picks. This could be something...

I will say that this probably means the end of Ced Benson, as the Bengals can now afford to get the number 1 RB next year.

I agree.
With the rookie cost already known for future picks, I think the trading of draft picks becomes huge, since all the rookies are now affordable..lol
Now it all about positioning yourself to get the guy you want, and just like the Colts may do in picking Luck. Better to have leverage than anything.

Posted by: 19th Century Indiana Jones Oct 18 2011, 02:29 PM

And it's a WIN/WIN for Cincinnati. If they meet Oakland in the playoffs, one of two scenarios will happen:

1. The Bengals win and they advance and still get an earlier 1st rounder in 2012

2. The Bengals lose and they get Raiders' 1st rounder in 2012 AND 2013

Never too early for a Christmas Wish list
Dear santa.gif

Now that Mr. Brown has more picks, can you spinkle some dust or something to convince him to hire a GM that know's FB talent, so they do not go to waste.

A suggestion, Two promotions..
Marvin Lewis to GM
Zimmer to Head Coach

it's a stretch I know, almost as big as getting the RB from Alabama but hey it's just a wish list. After all Mr. Brown was wishing for that trade and he got what he really wanted...lol

Posted by: Gonzodad Oct 20 2011, 10:52 PM

I'm crossing my fingers for a true left tackle. Trade our pic, Raiders for a starting LT, vet or rookie??? Use the other picks for an rb, maybe a giant nose tackle. After that, a lb or secondary help.

Posted by: Gottabe Oct 24 2011, 09:09 AM

I get the "Whit isn't a true LT" but isn't it cheaper to get a starting guard?
With Whit at LT, that position doesn't need fixing, IMO. Bobby Williams isn't getting any younger, I think we need guards for the future and if I was thier QB I'd feel better sticking with Whit out at tackle then a new piece.
RB, yup we need an upgrade "Bell Cow" new guards can fix that as well. Hell any kind of a consistent line would. If Benson remains out of trouble, he's still getting older, and still looking for that big deal he wound up blowing.
I personally think he's gone.
The secondary is going to need a long term fix, if we make it through this year holding our breathe.
Linebackers? We need a consistent reliable threat. We aren't quite were they need to be and just an ankle or hamstring away from the kimshee..lol

Recievers anyone?
Simpson may not be as mature as thought
Caldwell, we've all cringed watching his drops, he does do well when he is on.
He is a little better at the slot than WR.
Green- Good there.
Shipley will be back, next year, just not a WR threat (Slot Guy)
Most of the receptions, over half are to Non-WR positions and the WR position has only yielded 5 TD's 4 to Green and the other to Caldwell who may have been lined up in the slot that drive.
A little help to keep Green healthy form the other side of the field would be nice. A diversion for the other corner's.
I like Gresham, but the LB and safety usually pick him up.

Naw....I was rather impressed. Young team, Dalton played pretty poised against a veteran defense.

Defense (secondary) played so soft. And that ghost holding call on 3rd-and-4 against Whitworth took the wind out of our momentum sails.

Four wins in a row, starting with the defending champs New York Giants! I thought it was a fluke game, but I was happy nonetheless because I was there. The Chiefs used to be tough at home, but I don't know what happened to them. The crowd was hyped up against the Raiders because of Carson Palmer. And a tough game against the Chargers where everything seemed to be going wrong for us except the defense. Yeah, the defense carried us all game long. But even in those scenarios a good team is supposed to win. I guess we are good. Or at least getting there. The defense is becoming the cornerstone of the team in which to depend on when all else is failing. Just have the offense get hot at the right time and we could have a major playoff contender here.....
