Collector Zone _ Football _ Colts thread

Posted by: cardcrazed Mar 8 2010, 01:14 AM

This is going to be my running total of Colts lost this year to free agency. So far:

Jim Sorgi (I guess Painter gets to hold the clipboard now)
Marlin Jackson (kind of stings a little)
Tim Jennings (I'm ok with)
Hank Baskett (I'm ok with)
Raheem Brock (big loss on the depth chart)
Aaron Francisco (special teamer)

I'm sure I will be adding to this list as Free agency continues, I just hope the rumors aren't true and I have to add Antoine Bethea to the list! Stay strong COLT nation!

Justin

Posted by: rnpurdue Mar 8 2010, 08:15 AM

Bethea will be back. And don't worry to much, the Colts just reload every year through the draft. We could really use some OLB help. I agree losing Brock and possibly Jackson are going to hurt on the depth chart.

Posted by: aceecards Mar 8 2010, 09:22 AM

How aboiut what they didnt lose!

Gary brackett!

Posted by: rnpurdue Mar 8 2010, 09:51 AM

I think they should release Bob Sanders as well. Yes, he is awesome when healthy. But that has been a rarity. Plus, I think Melvin Bullit stepped in nicely. Use the Sanders funds to pay Bullitt, Bethea, and Jackson. Use the 2nd or 3rd pick for another safety. Just my thoughts.

Posted by: edgerrin32 Mar 8 2010, 10:24 AM

yea i hope sanders comes back strong and stays healthy. just remember a few years ago when we were all devastated because the released Edgerrin james?? but it was cool because we got some guy named Addai! yea like that was the best move ever laugh.gif . now nobody respects the fact the the colts used to be a big run threat. and there were some nasty back up runners when james was out!

anyway hope they pick up some good players and run the table this year!

Bethea will be back unless someone wants to give up a 1st round pick!

Out of all these guys, Im ok with them all leaving the biggest one was Brock.Jackson was good but there are also some good DBs in the draft. Besides we have Hayden the SB hero. I think we need to get a little speed on the other side.

Also, Im really glad now that Hank Baskett is gone. Im still cussing him out for the Onside kick in the Super Bowl.

Ah, the colts will be fine. They lose players every year and they are still consistentely good. Now the lions on the other hand...laugh.gif

it is true that we lose significant players every year! But it would be nice to have a little depth at each position! I know Hayden is great but Jackson gave us that depth, now we are dependent on Lacey and Powers who only have 1 year experience.

another Free agent loss today:

Starting Guard Ryan Lilja (guess what we will be drafting.............offensive line)

tongue.gif I really forgot about those guys. I think the Secondary will be fine if we still have Bethea when its over. Both Powers and Lacey did a good enough job last year, Esp Lacey. We needed O line anyway because Saturday is getting old,and our LT is testing FA or might have left IDK.
I havent watched the FA that close this year.

Where did Lilja go?

Posted by: rnpurdue Mar 10 2010, 08:52 AM

Ryan Lilja will be a big loss. But, we did draft for this 2 years ago with Richard and Pollack. Maybe Ugoh will come through for them laugh.gif . Looks like OL for first round, DB second.

I agree OL first round, maybe DT or LB second. Polian has a keen eye for finding "small" fast cornerbacks in the later rounds and especially undrafted free agents! I have a feeling this will be a good draft!!!

Justin

Posted by: whatwild Mar 10 2010, 10:28 PM

The team is really fine if you think about it. I mean not in one spot. I honestly think all across the board is A-ok. All we really need to do is take stock in some O line and some LBs and a DT for sure. We are gonna gain a WR next year and get Sanders back.

Posted by: cardcrazed Mar 12 2010, 08:34 PM

Thursday we added Andy Alleman Guard from Kansas City. Looks like a depth addition to me.

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Mar 13 2010, 08:11 PM

signed Adam Terry, Tackle from Baltimore. He could be a starter.

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Mar 21 2010, 01:19 PM

The Colts added former bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner as the new WR coach and Ron Prince as the assistant offensive line coach. Prince was the former Virginia special teams coordinator.

Justin

Is Ron Turner being groomed for Tom Moore's job?

it sure does look that way! Although I think you could probably say that about Ron Prince as well..........

Justin

Posted by: rnpurdue Mar 24 2010, 03:39 PM

Marlin Jackson to the Eagles. That hurts. CB in the first 2 rounds.....

Posted by: cardcrazed Mar 24 2010, 11:39 PM

maybe, but with Polians knack for finding quality talent in the later rounds he will probably go best available on the board and that will probably be offensive line or Linebacker. Just look at Jerraud Powers and Jacob Lacey, Powers was a 3rd round pick and Lacey was undrafted and both had a tremendous impact on our defense. I would bet the house that he surprises us with the first pick and drafts Tim Tebow or another QB!

Justin

Posted by: rnpurdue Mar 25 2010, 12:38 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not Tebow. The last thing our well-polished, smooth running offense needs is a wildcat wrinkle to it. Would be great for the collecting hobby though, huh?

I think he changed his throwing motion so he doesn't need the wildcat formation anymore biggrin.gif I would be first in line for an auto card with him in a Colt uni tongue.gif

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 11 2010, 06:54 PM

RB/KR Chad Simpson was released 4-10-10

I guess this means that Mike Hart's roster spot is safe for now, we will probably look for a KR in the draft!

Justin

Posted by: whatwild Apr 14 2010, 09:04 PM

We signed Saftey Melvin to a one year deal

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 15 2010, 01:03 AM

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 18 2010, 06:57 PM

If Bob doesn't produce this year then it is time to cut him loose! Bullitt and Bethea can take over just fine!

Justin

Posted by: phatman68 Apr 18 2010, 09:32 PM

anyone know whats up with the guy in my sig? smile.gif My dad saw him when he came home about a month ago and he said the Colts will give him one more chance to start but if he gets hurt again hes gone

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 19 2010, 07:50 AM

He's a restricted free agent, so right now he is not even listed on the roster. I doubt we re-sign him and look for his replacement in the draft.

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 23 2010, 01:35 AM

Great 1st round pick! Jerry Hughes will be terrorizing QB's for years!

Justin

Posted by: rnpurdue Apr 23 2010, 03:07 PM

Great pick. Of course, no one saw it coming. Maybe OLB and CB for the next 2 picks?

Posted by: whatwild Apr 23 2010, 03:08 PM

I like the Pick... His highlights were ok but with the training he will get here, there will be not telling how good he can be.
I will have to wait to see him on the field in a Colts uni before I say it was a great pick.

Posted by: rnpurdue Apr 24 2010, 07:04 AM

Just as I guessed...a LB and a CB. Hope the CB works out, draft "experts" are calling it a reach. Of course, look at the past few years and the DB draft picks the Colts have had. For the most part they have been solid. Not to worried.

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 24 2010, 09:14 AM

Pat Angerer was a solid LB at Iowa so he should be an excellent backup for Brackett! I am most looking forward to today because this is where we should be adding o-line help! Polian is the master at finding those hidden gems in the later rounds!

Justin

Posted by: whatwild Apr 24 2010, 08:33 PM

The draft dosent look all that great right now sad.gif

At least not for the Colts

Posted by: rnpurdue Apr 25 2010, 08:53 AM

The Colts did what they needed to do....fill needs. Mainly adding depth to defensive positions. They have all the playmakers they need on offense, and filled the roster with OL during the off season.

plus we added a few possible kick returners! Ray fisher from Indiana and Brandon James from Florida! If Brandon does for us what he did for Florida then it is his job! On a side note we also signed Javarris James (that's right, Edgerrin's cousin) RB from Miami and Blair White WR from Michigan State!

Justin

I just would have liked to see them draft maybe a couple good Lineman in the draft.

I really dont think we got alot of help in FA for the Line..

I could be wrong

Posted by: cardcrazed Apr 27 2010, 09:40 AM

I definitely think MCclendon was an upgrade for the O-line! I do agree that I thought we would have focused a lot more on the o-line. I am very impressed though with the UDFA's that we aquired, I think several of them have a legitimate chance of making the roster! We signed Tim Hiller QB from Western Michigan and apparently they really like him, so Painter may have some competition!

Justin

Posted by: whatwild Apr 27 2010, 04:12 PM

Yea I know what you mean the whole O lines getting Old .

Cant wait to see Hiller in Pre-Season

Posted by: cardcrazed May 9 2010, 12:10 PM

3rd round pick Kevin Thomas DB from USC suffered a knee injury that could cost him the season.........................will we ever get over this injury bug! Although this shouldn't be a big surprise because Thomas was not a stranger to the injured list at USC!

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed May 28 2010, 12:16 PM

Robert Mathis has not attended any of the voluntary training sessions due to wanting a new contract. This may not work in Mathis's favor due to the team trying to work on a new contract for Peyton. This info I found on profootballtalk.com.

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Jun 2 2010, 08:44 AM

besides Robert Mathis you can now add Reggie Wayne and Antoine Bethea to the list of OTA no shows. Reggie usually doesn't attend till they become mandatory, Bethea has still not signed his 1 year tender sooooooooo. This info was found on profootballtalk.com.

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Jun 8 2010, 11:14 AM

Colts have signed QB Tom Brandstater. Brandstater played college ball at Fresno State and was recently released by Denver. If he makes the roster he looks to be a lock for the backup spot.

No schedule is too tough for the Colts. I expect another solid year, with a strong run through the playoffs, and breakout seasons from Austin Collie and Donald Brown.

Posted by: cardcrazed Jul 23 2010, 01:08 AM

Colts have already suffered 2 injuries early in camp, offensive linemen Charlie Johnson and Andy Alleman both had to be carted off with leg injuries. Charlie was a starter last year and Andy was a pick up off waivers from the Chiefs. This is not a good way to start the season!!!!

Justin

Colt's DT John Gill was arrested for public intoxication on their day off from training camp.......................What a moron, you would think if you only played 2 games last season that you would want to do whatever it takes to impress the team so that they keep you! I bet his name is already on the first list of cuts!!!!

Justin

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Aug 15 2010, 10:32 PM

All I have to say about pre-season Colt's football is that I believe it is in the teams best interest to not name Curtis Painter the back up maybe 3rd string but not back up! Tom Brandstater should have the back up spot by the 3rd pre-season game! And that is all I have to say about that....................

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Sep 3 2010, 12:40 AM

Pretty decent game tonight from the backups! Now we can focus on the regular season! Look forward to seeing the roster cuts! I think Brandstater proved he is the backup! The regular season can't get here fast enough..........

Justin

Posted by: cardcrazed Sep 5 2010, 09:56 AM

Some of the surprising cuts:

Tom Brandstater (really shocked, thought he would be the backup)
Blair White (too much depth in WR)
Javarris James (Edge's cousin)
Brandon James (had 3 TD's in last preseason game)
Ray Fisher (DB we wasted a draft pick on)

hopefully some of these will clear waivers and will be signed to the practice squad!

Justin

To bad Leinhart doesn't fit in well salary cap wise. He would be a serious upgrade from Painter. I would feel more secure at least.

Posted by: cardcrazed Sep 6 2010, 12:24 PM

I would actually rather have Brandstater than Leinart, Brandstater had a really good preseason and could actually develope into a true QB! All I see in Leinart's future is a career full of 1 year deals!

Justin

Posted by: rnpurdue Sep 12 2010, 04:19 PM

Green with nausea now. Yes, maybe to much to drink while at the Colts game today. But the Colts performance is what made me sick to my stomach. Lots of areas for improvement, on both sides of the ball. And again, please Colts, get rid of Sanders. Use his money for other players or paying the ones we have to bigger contracts.

Posted by: ffman Sep 12 2010, 05:39 PM

I like the Colts (especially Manning) but I am glad the Texans handled them a loss.

As always the Colts will battle for the top of the AFC South, so it's nice that they are one game in the hole this quick.

Posted by: ronaldinho0003 Sep 12 2010, 07:20 PM

Suprised to see the Colts lose. Houston and Arian Foster came ready to play. Peyton's 400 yards and 3 touchdowns just couldn't get it done today...

Posted by: cardcrazed Sep 13 2010, 07:51 AM

Sanders is fragile, he will be cut next year. The run D better step it up or it will be a long season! Collie looks to play a big role in the offense!

Bob Sanders is rumored to have a torn bicep muscle and could possibly miss another season! He is getting a second opinion! Also Gonzalez is expected to miss this weeks game with a high ankle sprain! sadwalk.gif

Justin

Posted by: rnpurdue Sep 16 2010, 01:07 PM

Gonzo won't be missed. Coolie, IMO, is much better. Cut Gonzo, and like I have said many times before, get rid of Sanders. Frees up cap space. Need to resign Peyton to a $20 million/year contract (just so Polian can make his point that he has the BEST QB) and give Wayne more money.

Posted by: cardcrazed Sep 19 2010, 01:41 AM

I definately agree with cutting sanders! Collie has proven that he is a go to receiver so Gonzalez won't be missed! I really hope we get Wayne signed soon, Garcon is going to be great but he is no Wayne! On a side note it was about time Tony Ugoh was cut, that experiment was a total waste of time and a draft pick!

Justin

One hail mary pass away from the Colts being in a division where everyone is 1-1. Colts looked awfully impressive last night, too bad it wasn't against a divisional or AFC conference team.

a win is a win and we need to keep winning! Being able to run the ball will definitely help!

Garcon didn't make the trip to Denver for what appears to be an injury although I haven't been able to find anything specific! Blair White will get a chance to play as he was recently signed off the practice squad!

I thought WR depth wasn't going to be an issue. Now we are moving guys off the practice squad? Yikes.....

yeah I thought we were gonna be extremely deep at that position but with Gonzalez and Garcon out that is a serious blow! White may be a step up from Gonzalez but only time will tell!

2-2. Not how I envisioned the start. I think the Colts are going to be on the outside looking in this postseason. Jets, Patriots, Steelers, Ravens, Texans and Chargers. Unless Brady, Schaub or Rivers goes down OR the Steelers, Ravens or Jets Defense all of a sudden just roll over, the Colts will finish with the 7th or 8th spot. And unfortunately Manning will have a January off.

This weekend will decide for us if we are contenders or pretenders, Washington is a pretty decent team and will beat us if we turn the ball over or we don't show up on defense! I want a win and everyone healthy, we absolutely can't afford to have anyone else getting hurt!

Surprisingly 4-2 with the bye this week. I personally think my predictions will come true, that being the Colts don't make the playoffs. Losing Collie, Clark, Addai and others are really going to hurt. Gonzalez, Sanders, Brackett and Brown being doubtful or out also hurts. WAY too many injuries to overcome this year. sad.gif

we are definitely a banged up team! I have not given up just yet, still early in the season and we are still in the hunt! Keep your heads up Colts fans! Big game Monday night, we get revenge against the Texans!!!!

I will be a believer that we are a legitimate playoff team with a win vs. the Eagles this weekend. We are 3 point underdogs, so maybe that will fuel the fire. If our defense is healthier, I believe we have a shot. Last weekend proved Peyton can win with a JV offense, so I don't know why this weekend will be any different on that side of the ball.

Wow, no replies since November. I liked our draft. Offensive line, offensive line. Texans draft a D-Lineman, we draft a BETTER O-Lineman. Jacksonville and Tennessee draft rookie QB's. I think they took 2 steps back this year, and the Texans won't have enough time to learn their new defense to be effective. Colts to win AFC South AGAIN. Let's hope they stay healthy wink.gif .

I think the Colts had a great draft. Both of their first 2 picks were steals at a position which was their biggest need.

I am really pleased with the first 2 picks! If they work out then our line just improved a ton! A little confused about Delone Carter RB from syracuse, I agree he was a good back in college but he looks no better than a 3rd stringer on our team behind Donald Brown. The most interesting pick was our last pick Chris Rucker CB from Michigan State. Everything I hear is that he is gonna be turned into a safety he is a natural when the ball is in the air and loves to hit people, now if he can only walk the straight line! That's my take on our draft! Thanks for bumping this thread! Oh by the way Drake Nevis is a beast, just youtube him and see!
