Another good topic. wink.gif

As someone that played basketball through almost all of my pre-college schooling, I have to say Hoosiers.

In fact, this movie became part of the preparation we went through for "big" games. We just weren't ready if we hadn't watched Hoosiers. biggrin.gif

My two all time favorite sports movies

"The Natural" - still gets me choked up when I watch it.
"The Bad News Bears" - brings me back to my childhood and is a classic

other ones I really liked include:
"Rudy" - Sean Astin really wanted to play for Notre Dame before becomming a Hobbit.
"Hoop Dreams" - great documentary about inner city HS basketball
"Slap Shot" - gotta love the Hansen Brothers .. even after their revival in commecials. And after the gags, a thoughtful movie about small town hockey fans and violence in the sport.

for some reason .. although its at the top of a lot of people's lists, I never got into or liked field of dreams ..

I do not think that it is fair to group all sports movies into one category.

I propose three categories

Best Comedy Fiction

Best re-enacted true story

Best fiction Drama

Now for the winners

My alltime favorite of this genre is Hoosiers I just aint sure which class it belongs in. Although complete fiction, it closely resembles the story of Milan High in Indiana's single class basketball tourney, the smallest school to ever win the state crown.

Comedy - Caddyshack although calling it a sports movie is well, ludicrous
2nd place would be the ORIGINAL "Longest Yard"

Best re-enacted true story hands Down "Brian's Song"
2nd place is "Victory" that soccer movie featuring stallone and Pele

Best Fiction Drama and no one else is even close "The Natural"
2nd place would be " Field of Dreams" or "for the love of the game"
