I don't watch enough movies.

I still need to get around to watching Quantum of Solace, and I really enjoy Bond films.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons

My wife and I stayed up till like 2am Saturday morning watching this DVD and it was the most boring movie I've ever seen.........My wife actually fell asleep at one point in the movie.

Posted by: cbware88 May 26 2009, 02:41 PM

has anybody seen The Night at the Museum II?? My kids want to go see it this weekend.

I really liked the first one but I'm worried about this one because of all the hype.............

Terminator Salvation...

If I wasn't with friends, I would've walked out of the theater half way through. Just a bunch of explosions left and right. Absolutely horrendous...can't wait for Transformers to come out though cool.gif

Terminator Salvation thumbsup.gif

Great action movie, much better than number 3 in my opinion. The storyline seems to flow well if you've seen the original Terminator(which I had to re-read the plot to the original on wikipedia as I was extremely confused). But anyone who is into action should go see it

The G.I Joe toy doesn't look stupid anymore. UP looks funnier than NATM2. And I was a fan of LOTL:TOS. I was watching a lot of the episodes yesterday on Sci-Fi (14-hour marathon).

Terminator Salvation:
thumbdown.gif

Better than T3 overall, but very flawed. Most of the action scenes were well done and the machines looked cool on the big screen. The final 1/3 of the movie focuses on a different character who is less interesting than the main characters in the previous 2/3. And for something that is supposedly so smart, Skynet takes the most round-about way to stop John Conner. The ending was also very lame.

This article is an interesting read on the original plot of the movie:

I was also disappointed by Benjamin Button (though not by the lack of male nudity tongue.gif ). It neither connected with me emotionally nor did it really delve into the implications of aging backward.

4 Reviews here: (I saw all of these in theatres except for the last one)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine. thumbsup.gif

I saw it and enjoyed it. It was a typical super hero movie. If you like super hero movies, watch it, if you don't, then don't watch it. It was like the Hulk, Spiderman, etc. It had a lot of action and kept me interested throughout the whole movie. The only complaint I have is that Cyclops, my favorite of the X-Men, looked really stupid. He was a high school kid with pink glasses.

Observe & Report. thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

This is probably the funniest comedy I've seen in 2 years. I was laughing out loud almost the entire movie. It is hilarious. It's about a security guard at a mall (Seth Rogen) trying to catch this guy running through the parking lot flashing everybody. It's rated R, so yes it does have a lot of swearing and crude humor and is not a "family movie". It is nothing like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, it is MUCH MUCH funnier. I definetely recommend you watch this.

The Haunting in Connecticut. thumbdown.gif

I came into this movie thinking it was going to be rediculously scary...and...it wasn't (I will go back to this shortly). I wouldn't give it a thumbs up, but it wasn't really a thumbs down either, I only gave it that rating because on cbware88's scale a thumbs down is considered OK and a movie worth renting. But like I said, it wasn't THAT scary of a movie. It did have a lot of those parts where a loud, short piano plays when a ghost walks by a mirror and stuff like that. It was just a good ghost story that apparently happened to a kid in 1987. You can look up the storyline for this movie somewhere else, it's hard for me to explain it to you without giving it away.

My Bloody Valentine thumbdown.gif thumbdown.gif

I gave this movie 2 thumpsdowns because there was no inbetween on the scale from "OK" to "worse movie ever don't waste your money." This movie is about a miner that kills people with a pick axe in a mine. It really isn't all that great, and there's much better horror movies out there. I personally thought The Haunting in Connecticut was a lot better than this.

sorry for the long read, hopefully you enjoyed.

Thanks Cardinal!!!!!!!!

Those were some good reviews.

I saw Mall Cop at the drive-in with the kids so that is why I passed on Observe and Report. Based on your review, I might have to reconsider.

UP

thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

This is why I love movies. It balances adventure, humor, and emotion perfectly. Both the story and the animation are great. I particularly thought the animators did a great job in capturing the mannerisms of a real dog. The first 10 minutes do a better job at exploring life and love than the entire running time of a certain Oscar-nominated picture from last year. Seeing it in 3D isn't essential, but worth it; it adds depth to the picture but is not so distracting that it takes you out of the story. Great movie for all ages and the best movie I've seen so far this year.

It's an old movie, but:

Schindler's List.

I had to watch this for a movie review for a school report a couple years ago. However, the DVD (rented) wasn't in the best shape so it skipped a lot.

Monday night I re-watched a good portion of it on HBO. This is one of the best movies of all-time. One of my favorite parts was the ending - both the ending scene of the "movie" ("I didn't do enough") and the portion that showed the remaining "Schindler's Jews" visiting his real grave.

The Italian Job
5/5
Awesome Movie

Law Abiding Citizen
3.5/5
Good but could be way better. the story wasn't that great.

I'm really mixed on this movie. The performances were great, but the directing was terrible. The music choices, cheesy slo-motion, and waaaay too many shots of the CGI crowd took me out of it. My ignorance of rugby really took any tension away from the final sequence. Would have been a better movie without showing any rugby being played. Worth a rental, but don't pay full price at the movie theater.

The visual spectacle of the movie is as good as advertised. It begs to be seen on the big screen in 3D. I was completely immersed in the world of Pandora from start to finish. However, the story really prevents it from being a great movie. The characters are one-dimensional and the plot contains environmental and political messages that are a little too on-the-nose (i.e. the natives are literally connected to nature and references to "shock and awe"). There are some potentially interesting themes such as the internal struggle of someone living in 2 bodies, one crippled and one not human, but these are glossed over. It's worth the price of admission, but I did not have the same emotional reaction to this movie as I did with District 9.

I feel the same way about both. Rentals or matinees. Sherlock Holmes was fun it parts, but the side characters were not very interesting and the villain disappears for awhile in the middle of the movie. Daybreakers has some interesting twists on vampires and their lifestyle, but as an allegory for energy policy it doesn't really make sense in the end.

How to Train Your Dragon

Very fun movie. It follows a very generic plot, but almost everything else about it is done well. The main human character designs are kind of bland, but the dragon animations are awesome. The flying sequences, especially in 3D, are probably better than in any other movie, including Avatar. Great score too.

Well, you're looking at a good 25 years from the original. That's a lot of apples and oranges. I'm not saying the original movies are cinematic masterpieces, but unless the reboot brings something new to the table, why make it? I'll probably give it a go once it hits Blu-ray/DVD, but I don't think it's worth my time to schlep to the theater to spend the $8. Just my $.02. smile.gif

I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to see A Nightmare on Elm Street in theaters. Personally I didn't watch it in theaters and loved it. When watching a remake I try to go into it with an open mind. Trying to picture it as I haven't seen all the other ones before. Personally I enjoyed it more than the original. I guess the reason(s) I did like it more is because it's 2010.... Technology is better now than in the 80's. The original was still a great flick for the time period. Jackie Earle Haley did his part for a great Fred Kreuger. Yes, Robert Englund would've fulfilled the Freddie as we all know and love...But the way Freddie was set up in this film, I think Haley was perfect for it. I will most likely watch it again tonight. As far as getting it on dvd, I'll say that I think I will be getting it, seeing I have all the other re-mastered films.

Roll Models- thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif Was very funny! And make sure to watch the cut out seens! I seen the unrated version of course. But also a good movie(not including the funniness).

It was AWESOME!!!!!! thumbsup.gif

I only gave it one thumbs up because the plot was kinda weak (I figured out who the bad guy was once the money blew up) but I loved the TV series references and how they showed the progression of events that were never fully explained before - ie: how the team was formed, why BA hates flying, etc.

I didn't really like the Jessica Biel character but at least it worked with Face and the whole girlfriend angle. I couldn't remember......was their a girlfriend aka DOD Captain in the TV series?

Also I liked this Star Trek http://trekmovie.com/2010/06/11/obscure-star-trek-joke-beams-into-the-a-team-movie/ in the movie. Did anybody else catch it?

I will have to go back again or buy the DVD because I missed the cameo appearances and the clip after the credits.

Overall; it was a good flick and brought back ALOT of childhood memories.

Predators: C-

I was expecting more. In a way it is predictable and there are a couple of unexpected turns that really didn't really put a twist into the story. The effects were as usual, but it feels like something was missing. It only passed because I am a fan of the variety of Predator masks.

Nice, but disappointing.

Predators - no smiley, no frowney

Enjoyable enough, but doesn't really do anything new or interesting. Uses the formula found in countless horror movies of a group of people being hunted by something, in this case Predators. The action scenes/kills are good for the most part, but not enough to make it worth going to the theater for. Glad I only paid the early bird price. Adrian Brody takes a page out of Christian Bale's playbook and becomes an action star by speaking in a raspy, gravely voice.

Despicable Me thumbsup.gif

Most of it's humor is aimed towards kids, so I didn't laugh too much, but the 3D was really good. It uses 3D much better than any of the Pixar movies. But while I would have enjoyed the Pixar movies in 2D, I don't think I would have liked this one as much. Like Predators, it goes through all the tropes of a familiar plot, while not adding too much that is new.

Looking forward to The Expendables as well

And popcorn is so passe. Now there are chicken fingers, hot dogs, sliders, tacos, etc.... They are really milking it.
