Collector Zone _ Hockey _ Pens trade with Caps for Vokoun

Penquins traded with the Capitals today. Gave up a 7th round pick in 2012 draft for the rights to sign T. Vokoun goalie. Pens announced they signed him for $2M per, for 2 years. Interesting pick-up in my opinion as Brent Johnson was only a $0.6M hit, but he was a UFA. Not sure he would have been asking that much, but other sites are saying the issue was he did not releive Fluery enough or challenge him for the #1 position, so the Pens needed someone like this. I agree somewhat as Fluery can't play 80% of the regular season games without getting some rest for the playoffs and he just never seemed to get it last year. That being said, he was not the reason they lost, there was no defensive play from either forwards or defenseman this year in the playoffs.

So did Chris Osgood for the Wings at one point, a veteran goalie would not hurt the Pens at this point, nice goal tender pick up. smile.gif
