I've noticed that there are many members that are pretty active in discussion topics related to wrestling. However, there is generally very little activity related to wrestling cards.

It just doesn't seem like the popularity of wrestling translates into interest in trading cards as much as it does for other sports, entertainment, etc.

Any thoughts on why that is?

They seem to be pretty popular on ebay. The wrestling autograph's bring pretty good prices for the seller. The Rey Mysterio autograph from Chrome had been selling for around $100 and the Superfractor's of the diva's sell for $100 to $200.

It seem's that people who have them, won't trade them.

I DO ACE!!!!

If you say you have an autograph of Glen Jacobs, alot of people won't have a clue who he is. But if you say Kane, more people will know and I for one wouldn't want the autograph to say Glen Jacob's.

Even though it is common knowledge what the wrestler's real names are but not everyone makes an effort to know them, or even care what they are.

It isn't like an autograph of say, Sean Astin, no matter what role he play's he is advertised as still being Sean Astin. Actors and actresses real names are wide speard, unlike wrestler's, that's why they sign them with the name they are most well known.

At least that's my perspective.

I havent been into wrestling in quite afew years. I think the lack of interest is that there is generally only one product (Topps Heritage) that I know of. Want to increase popularity, increase choices. I agree with Steve, in 20 years "KANE" will be worth as much as last year's calendar. I wouldnt mind some Stacey Kiebler Cards though, she's bad.

Interesting idea... Although, could the lack of choices be due to lack of demand? That's generally the way business works.

When Fleer was still making set's, they put out 4 or 5 a year on average. I have a hard time finding them anywhere localy.

Topps is coming out with a new set soon called WWE insider. Look's to be a very nice set.

just like most sportscards, collectors are mainly interested in AUTOS. Unfortunately, many of the Event Used items are NOT clothing so the "event used" doesn't have that big of an appeal as "game used." In addition, there aren't "Rookie" cards for the wrestlers AND the photgraphy of the cards are pretty bad.

So you are really looking to trade autos and Female cards basically. There are hardcore collector just not on our site.

What about Hulk Hogan? You'd rather have Terry Bollea? blink.gif

And I'm with jaderock - the action photography is usually awful. Topps should buy pics from some of the wrestling magazines.

I agree I am not into the wrestling cards myself but I know some people that are and when they get a card that is Auto or Gu it goes into personnal collection

Wrestling fans are a different breed and collector... They collect every person not just a specific team/player like other sports card collectors.

Topps will eventually take off where Fleer failed. The first few Fleer sets were awesome. Especially Championship Clash. Granted the only autos were diva's, but what I liked was the redemptions for the replica championship belts.

Ive made this argument many times but if they want to get fans into the product, go bigger. Have redemptions for signed stuff or merch of wwe products. Taking it a bit further, since each PPV has chairs made for it, take 1 or 2 and have everyone that appeared that night sign it. Yeah shipping woudl suck but if they did that kinda stuff, Id buy alot more than I do for a shot at that stuff.

Topps needs to lean away from event used mat cards. They just plain suck. Stick with event used material worn stuff.

I like what topps did when they took over and put out the first heritage set. They got actual wrestlers autos out there where fleer concentrated on divas. Thats where they failed IMO. You can only do so much with the divas before it gets boring.

I like the redemption idea, however, we all know redemption programs stink (the wait, the expiration, the "out of business"etc). That being said I think a wrestling collector would go nuts over a WM signed chair or a "authentic" Mysterio Mask or a Cena Spinning belt!

The would either have to do entry cards and do a drawing or redemption for that stuff. Granted they do suck but for the most part, if they did it right, which chances are they wont, it would work.

I actually thought the face mask sliver gu was more interesting than gu ball cards. Gu balls I thought were pointless unless there was something special about that exact ball or game at the least.

I don't mind mat cards if they are kept to a minimum but it seems like Fleer put the mat on a card over 75% of the time. The oversized mat cards that were made for Aggression that had the pictures of the superstars on the mat itself is an example of mat cards done right.
