The IRS targeting of "Right Wing" groups tax exempt status and the Justice Departments tapping AP reporters are chilling examples of an administration that has (apparently) become too comfortable, arrogant and thuggish in its 2nd term.
Whether the White House is/was aware of these Nixonian tactics is worthy of investigation. It's difficult to conceive that no one in the Executive branch was privy to these illegal tactics.
While I understand the need to prevent leaks, especially when national security is concerned, I have no doubts that it has been used as a convenient excuse to fish. Two months worth of phone records from twenty different lines of the Associated Press via use of a secret subpoena reeks of hubris.
They are saying it was congressional pressure that led to "rogue" IRS agents targeting right wing groups (Tea Party, Patriot, Conservative) Ultimately, it is a failure of management to rein in the corrupt practices of its agents.
It's time for investigation and heads to roll.

QUOTE(aceecards @ May 15 2013, 02:29 PM) No need for confusion, I hold these folks responsible.
No more or less so than I do my political opponents.
This needs to be addressed, right now. The arrogance of our elected officials, whether Congressional or Executive, must be condemned and confronted by the citizens that elected them.
It is a duty, a right and an imperative for Democracy to survive.

President Obama asked for and accepted the resignation of Steven Miller, the acting Director of the IRS. IRS Exempt Organizations Division director Lois G. Lerner should tender her resignation as well.

Hopefully, the investigation will continue and those responsible for the targeting of Right Wing groups tax exempt status will be discovered and brought to justice.
The phone taps on the Associated Press are clearly legal under the "Patriot Act." That fact makes them no less filthy, vile and disgusting to anyone that considers themselves a supporter of the U.S. Constitution.
The Patriot Act is the most undemocratic piece of legislation since Executive Order 9066. It needs to be repealed immediately and thrown upon the ash heap of foul ideas.

QUOTE(RGBII @ May 17 2013, 06:24 AM) A second high ranking official at the IRS resigns."Joseph Grant, commissioner of the agency's tax-exempt and government entities division, will retire on June 3, according to an IRS statement. Grant joined the IRS in August 2005 and became the deputy commissioner of the tax exempt division in 2007. He became the second senior IRS official in as many days to offer his resignation. Grant had only be elevated to the position of commissioner of the division last week -- two days before the agency confirmed the targeting of Tea Party groups and conservative organizations applying for tax-exempt status." USA TodayCollect Hard!, RGBII So do you still get a government pension if you resign vs. retire? I am not familiar and I am just curious why this guy is retiring on June 3 vs. and immediate resignation. QUOTE(RGBII @ May 21 2013, 10:35 AM) I stated earlier that the phone taps were completely legal due to the Patriot Act. I loathe the Act and the violations of the Constitution that it enables. They (the DOJ) wanted to get the leaker by tapping the phones (20 lines) of the reporter responsible for putting a Yemeni agent in peril. They were fishing for his source.
Collect Hard!, RGBII As for the Patriot Act, I have to stand by it, until someone can devise a better way of safeguarding our country from another 911. It doesn't guarantee it will not happen again, but nothing really does. Until we all learn to live in peace and unfortunately with all that goes on in this world we probably never will, until that last atomic bomb goes off or whatever that weapon of mass destruction is that destroys us all.

QUOTE(RGBII @ May 21 2013, 11:35 AM) It happened on his watch, therefore (for good or ill) , he owns it. This has been an ongoing trait in our petulant attitude toward administrations for the past 80 years or more.

I totally agree. One of the low points of his administration was extending it, imho. QUOTE(northicehero99 @ May 21 2013, 12:22 PM) So do you still get a government pension if you resign vs. retire?
