I would agree on Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, as some of my top favorite comedies from the 1980s, however, there were so many great comedies in that era it would be hard to limit my picks to just 3. My other favorite comedies from the 80s were: Planes, Trains and Automobiles; Caddyshack; Porkys; Stripes; Ghostbusters; and even Gremlins had a humorous side to it.

Brian,
When I accepted the assignment, I thought it would be easy. I was given 2 days to complete it and it almost took me that long just to narrow it down to 3. It's funny you should mention Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I actually think it's funnier than Bueller, but I think Bueller is a better representation of Hughes' entire body of work. Fast Times was a no-brainer for me. It defined the decade and is a movie I quote on almost a daily basis. How I came about choosing History of the World Part 1- I noticed a strong connection between the 1st two movies I chose and The Simpsons. Jon Hughes penned the phrases: "Eat my shorts" and "Don't have a cow" before Bart Simpson was ever born. Jeff Spicoli and Bart are almost twins. I chose History because like The Simpsons it is funny on so many levels that it's easy for even the casual viewer to enjoy. It's often overlooked, but quite genius.
Other great movies that weren't mentioned: Animal House, The Blues Brothers, The Great Outdoors, National Lampoon's Vacation, Blazing Saddles

caddyshack still represents the #1 comedy movie for me of all time #2 Tootsie hoffman, Coleman, Murray garr, geena davis and the lovely jessica lange still makes me chuckle every single time The eighties sadly were plagued by the brat pack movies of John Hughes While breakfast club stands the test of time and is the best of that genre it just lacks some comedic factor for me. as does sixteen candles and some kind of wonderful with mary stuart masterson, the whole teenage agony being played out by mid twenty something actors with a happy ending just doesnt satisfy my comedic thirst. Although James Spader plays a really good rich boy in one of those movies! Planes trains and automobiles is one of my personal faves for the superb job of steve martin getting sucked in by Candy. His interaction at the rental car counter is just hilarious. fast times.. Phoebe cates.. swimming pool.. enough said! the first Ghost Busters would have to rank in my top ten just for sigourney weaver and Rick Moranis parts Stripes was ok, not one of my favorites Fletch, the first, is also an underrated comedy starring Chevy Chase Modern problems with chevy chase has some pretty hilarious stuff in it but overall lacked substance A movie that never gets recognition is Nine to Five with parton, tomlin, Fonda and Coleman. Jumping Jack Flash with Whoopi Goldberg is another decent flick i guess animal house was the seventies

QUOTE(aceecards @ Jun 26 2013, 02:01 PM) forgot all about 48 hours.. some of the greatest quotable lines in that movie some not repeatable here the bar scene where eddie murray utters that famous "there's a new sheriff in town" breaks me up everytime. Not too mention that we get a babe ruth quote for bonus purposes! And of course he is have a field day with that car door! Can't forget Beverly Hills Cop either. "I ain't gonna fall for no banana in the tailpipe."
