Would photostudio 5.5 work? It's the software that came with my scanner.

Yea, I love it. As far as cutting the image out, you just paste the image and use the eraser to cut out what you don't want. Or, you could use one of the pixel selection tools and drag it out. I found that just playing around with it really helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, as I rarely check this forum

I use Adobe Photoshop CS4, but it's rather expensive. If you're looking for something free just to toy with, I'd suggest GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/). It's difficult to get used to, but it'll do almost anything you could ever need it to do.

I use Photoshop CS4, even though I don't have a banner up for myself a few TCC members have a banner I've made for them.

It's a powerful tool but takes hours and hours to learn to use (to it's fullest potential...which I still haven't reached)
