Also, what's to say a terrorist wouldn't hide explosive parts where the sun don't shine?

Pat-down isn't going to catch those.

Also, Damond, you need to get another trade completed!
*

He's got a trade going with me right now.

I think, if the US is going to get serious about stopping terrorists, we need to start profiling. Are we more concerned with offending someone or with stopping terrorists? It's a simple question. It seems the US is continually falling all over itself not to "offend" anyone but it's our security that suffers. Take the recent Arizona law for instance. There's no question that it would be tough for 99% of the young, innocent, Arab looking men that would receive extra scrutiny but we need to admit that that's who's doing the evil deeds. Juan Williams said out loud what most Americans feel and he lost his job because of it.
Profiling isn't ideal but it's better than searching granny and letting a nervous 20 year old from Yemen pass just because he's not the right number in line.

Sorry, but I'm not giving up my privacy so a bunch of people can cop a feel on me in an airport. It's senseless to give up my private body for a bit of security. Haven't flown since '05 and I won't again. If you literally have to have a TSO agent put their hands on your genitals to make sure it will be a safe flight, you sir are a slave to the TSA. Plain and simple.

And the horror stories keep coming in:

One woman reported that the TSA agent even stuck her hand inside her underwear.

And, I also heard a horrible story about a man with bladder cancer.

I too heard both of these things happen. I guess it's all right for an American to give up a little bit of privacy for security, even if it means getting touched in inappropriate places as well as having yourself covered in urine. sad.gif

I wish everyone would buck the system. Like in prison, if the administration does something they don't like they stand up together regardless of race and say no. They will hold a sit in, they will go out to the recreation yard and everyone will sit down. They are not fighting they just go old school martin luther king sit ins and what happens when no one goes to dinner? The government lost 1,000 or more tax payer dollars. After that happens a few times the government looses too much money and they start asking the inmates what they want because they don't want to lose money and that is what it is all about. So we need to stop flying for the holidays and when it is all said and done, they won't make any money. People will lose jobs and then the government will have to do something to make back up for the unemployment rate going down. Obama will have to step in because it is making him look bad, and there you go, you just beat TSA, which is a government agency.

In my humble opinion Drock you beat nothing by doing that.

As far as profiling, it does no good either.

Lets give a little history lesson.

before 9/11 Security was lax , Id show up 15 minutes before a flight with all kind of items in my carry on, maybe a laptop, cell phone etc. Boom bam bing and we are off. I flew over 150 times in a three year period alone! I knew the guards by name at the St louis east terminal. I never had a concern for my safety other than mechanical error or pilot error. I never once gave a second look at any of the passengers, their possible religion/creed or ethinticity. I was only concerned about getting to where I was going and getting home while accomplishing my set forth tasks.

That all changed on 9/11. Through no fault of mine or hundreds of thousands of other people.

I have flow three times since then and all on business and all reluctuntly.

I followed the rules, showed up early, Packed my bags accordingly and try not to create any problems for myself, the TSA people, the airport, or other passengers. They , the security officials, are paid to do a job just like I am. the rules are posted. We can either choose to abide by those rules or risk not getting to where we are supposed to go.

We are not "sheeps" for following the details necesary to board a commerical passenger aircraft. We / me are are only concerned about getting to where we are supposed to go and returning safely. If that means
I have to be patted down, stick a rubber gloved hand in a seldom used crevice or get screened by supermans xray vision What is the hairy deal? you think the TSA personnel want to pat down a child or a hairy armpit? They are doing what they have been instructed to do. if you dont like then....

get in your car and drive or put on your boots and WALK.

Im sick and tired of listening to Jon Stewart or Rush Limbaugh incite the public about how wrong this is.

What exactly is Wrong with it??

If the end justifies the means....

acee, so it is cool to have a future child molestor touching your kids? You don't know who those people are or where they have been, that is ok that the TSA guy that got a job could be a serial raper, but never caught. He is allowed to take pictures of your child naked on a X RAY machine and that is cool with you? I don't get where you are coming from, but will take your advice, I will drive to where Im going, you won't catch me on plane any time soon. I don't mind being patted down or scanned because I am a TCC member but my children that upsets me. why do you need to touch my kids genital area? THAT IS SICK AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL. It is wrong..........And not scanning Muslim women is wrong too, they should strip search them.

They should do away with the X-rays. Watch - I bet there will be lawsuits later on that involve health issues going through those machines.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind if Jessical Alba was on the patdown team.

Damond, I cannot help who is doing the touchy feely or looking at the xrays of my privates. If that is how they get their jollies then so be it. I imagine the personnel conducting those screening find it not so enjoyable after performing a hundred or so a day! I'm sure just like garbage men that all trash bags begin to look the same!

Im sure women dont like having to go to a gynecologist or males having a prostrate exam but thousands are done everyday whether we like it or not!

Strip searching would be the option should an individual refuse to walk thru the scanner or protest at being patted down. Im sure they will change their mind about option 1 or 2 should it come to that!

Again there should be NO church vs state in regards to security!

There is a HUGE difference between a gynecological/prostate exam which is done VOLUNTARILY for your health! Plus, it is a trained professional doing it!

How many freedoms can be taken away in the name of "safety" - when a terrorist could just as easily target subways, cruise ships, trains, etc?

What about the first time an agent touches a child the wrong way? What about the bladder cancer survivor who suffered a busted colostomy bag due to the pat-down - and had to fly covered in his own urine?

What's next - full cavity searches once someone sneaks an item where the sun doesn't shine? Would you be in support of that?

Back to the topic. About those X-ray machines: I think they are too intrusive and I really think there might be some long-term health issues associated by being exposed to those rays. There has to be a better way.

There is a difference. However, if the rules are posted and you know that a strip search is a possibility, yet you still buy that ticket you are basically voluntarily saying that it's ok for you to get strip searched.

The words "trained professional" mean very little too. First of all, I'm sure the security guys at the airport are trained in some manner. Also, those "trained professionals" who work in your doctor's office are just as likely to be child molesters and rapists as the guys doing the strip searches at the airport.

Plus - if these pat-downs are SO important - why are they just now being enforced?

Where were body scanners and pat-downs for the last nine years since 9/11?

And, for analysts on TV that use the underwear bomber as an excuse - he came from an INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT.

I agree, I have seen some creepy people working for the government. i work for them. I have to admit that I do not believe that you have to feel the genetals to do a proper search. You can use a handheld metal detector and then when performing a pat search you do not and cannot touch the privates. I work in a prison and if we touch an inmates privates on a pat search we are going to lose our jobs. It is simple.

So say I go to the airport and the gentlemen rubs me the wrong way, and i start screaming out that he tried to rape me. I sue him for rape, I bet you I have a great shot at winning, because inmates can do the same thing.

I think all the uproar about this is ridiculous. I think the issue is being escalated by the media, certain media members and individuals who always look for something to raise a stink about. I also think half of the horror stories are either made up or manufactured by people who are trying to make it an issue (why else would they go for the pat down instead of the scanner).

The rules are made to protect you not to allow someone doing there job to touch or see a scan of you. Nobody has to fly if they choose.

My understanding (and I admit I have not fully researched the rules) is nobody is patted down unless they refuse the scanner or x-ray. Why would someone subject themselves or kid to a pat down? What harm is the scanner doing? The person does not know who they are looking at (they are in a secure room not at the security gate) and must see thousands and thousands of people a day. If I had a kid and this protects my kid, I'm all for it. I don't care the least bit if someone sees a scan of my kid or me for that matter. The pictures are not being saved and should never see the light of day.

Only issues I see and don't know much about are:
1) Are certain religions saying that the scan or pat-down somehow violates them in respect to there religious laws? Not sure if this is something people are saying but would argue doctors who x-ray or examine them would be the same violation.
2) Are people with certain illnesses being instructed to not go through the scanning machine and subjecting themselves to pat-down because of this?
