Hmm. Good points. I guess you're right about the value of 1/1's, but yeah I was using comparable past sales as a guide. Plus Ozzie isn't really like Omar Vizquel or Griffey who have some crazy collectors willing to pay anything to get their next 1/1...but point taken, 1/1's are pretty unique.

I hear you on the perceived value. I don't go by Beckett value at all, but I like to know what kind of value my cards have, should I want or need to sell them in the future. In that sense, it makes sense to me to get a fair amount for what I give.

I'm glad you are happy with your Cardinals haul - they certainly are some really nice ones in that lot. More huge pulls to you in the future! (Maybe just go buy another Heritage box and pull another K/K dual smile.gif

Nice write up. Even with the nice additions to your Cardinals collection, I think you might have gotten the very short end of the stick in a couple ways.

1. When trading one very rare card for a handful of far less rare cards, I don't think you can't just total up the book value (even though you admirably admit that you knew you were coming up a bit short in value). The reason is pretty simple - the value (not money-wise, but overall desirability) of one super rare card, outweighs the sum of its parts. Meaning, 5 $40 cards just don't have the appeal of a rare $200 card.

2. The appeal of the Topps Heritage set. Its an incredibly desirable set and the dual autograph was no exception. Being a Heritage autograph collector myself, I know that these cards don't lose as much of their value over time as other autograph sets. Of course it depends on the player. But Koufax is pretty strong. The sheer quality of that set/card, in my opinion, can't be overestimated.

3. The Koufax/Kershaw were two impeccable crisp signatures in the same blue ink, on a classic card design, and hand numbered, and in a Topps protected case. The cards you traded for are most likely not in the peak of condition.

4. Maybe most importantly, the money value. Sure, its admirable that you do not care to weigh dollars and cents, but you do admit you did some "number crunching". And I believe you came up unfortunately way short on this deal. Other Heritage Koufax/Kershaw signatures have sold for $600+ (one for $800+), which even if its temporarily inflated due to the hype of the 2015 Heritage set, is a number that you could have matched had you sold it. Yeah, 10% Ebay fees is pretty bad, but still that's $550-$700 in your pocket.

The Sutter signature is faded (as many cards from the ill-conceived Sweet Spot Signatures set are). Crisp Sutter signatures, on fake game balls, can be found for $10-$15. Musial is nice and shiny and on-card, in fact I wouldn't mind that in my Musial collection either, heh. But, $75-$100 tops. Ozzie Smith is a nice rare one, but would struggle to top $100 or $120 in my honest opinion. Brock and Gibson are nice, but as you know sticker autos, and not spectacular game used pieces either, and they are numbered as high as Topps Sterling pieces go - 10. $40-$60 each, being generous.

Its nice that you saw a chance to get a few cards in your target collections, but really seems like you COULD have sold the Koufax and gotten much more Cardinals for your buck, even if they might not have been the exact cards Aceecards had at the time.

In any case, nice to read your thoughts on the trade. I hope to write some similar articles to yours chronicling my random card collections.

Im issuing someone a refund for a lost card, the only way I can find to do it is through PayPal.

If i go that route are the sales charges from eBay refunded?

I sent a card from Tennessee to Canada that went to Miami Fla. For some reason, after that tracking has stopped.
*

AFAIK the sales fees are not refunded by Ebay. Paypal will refund the percentage they took out of the buyer's payment though, so at least you'll get that back.

I'd file a case with USPS and make sure you wait long enough. If you have the tracking # these packages are usually trackable, they just need to be pushed to do it for you.

@Ilovetheheat You raised a lot of good points. Too bad Steve couldn't take the blinders off and didn't respond to a single one of them. Similar response to my post a few weeks back.

His comment about the virtues of a female make me wonder too. Scary how ignorant parts of the American population can seem.

Thanks Peter!

I'm only doing the jumbo superstars and a select few of the regular relics. But yeah, its a great looking set. Dunno why they shortprinted Valentino and John Gilbert in every one of their products though.

Judging from your less-than-mature tone, it might be hard to get a rational dialog going. But I had a few comments..

QUOTE
QUOTE(aceecards @ Nov 20 2015, 05:34 PM)

No im just tired of my hard earned dollars going to pay for some illegal immigrant

"some illegal immigrant". Note your arrogant and derogatory tone here, lumping legitimate immigrants who go though a lengthy immigration process together with illegal immigrants. Are there illegal immigrants? Yes. I agree that is a problem. There are also many, many more legitimate ones, with a system in place to determine as best we can which is which, with the information we have.
QUOTE

I recommend taking a look at this article, which along with many others expose as ridiculous and paranoid the belief that immigrants take jobs away from Caucasian Americans.

As for your accusation that they "wont speak english"...I'm not sure where you get that from. But if I were to put you in a foreign country, I would really like to see how you deal with the language barrier. Aside from that, non-US born Americans I know usually have better English skills than native speakers such as yourself...

Huh? What do you have to back this claim up? I recommend you read a little about PRWORA
QUOTE

I could be uninformed, but what free schooling do "they" get??
and for what..
QUOTE
Sure lets let in 20,000 syrian male refugees I see no problems with that.. do you..? Hell invite the terrorist right in our front door..

1. About 2000 Syrians have been admitted to the US as refugees in the past 4 years. FOUR YEARS. The process is so involved and takes so long that we average 500 refugees per year.
2. Over half of the 2000 are children. Adult males comprise 2% of the 2000. link So where you get 20,000 males, is a mystery to me. That said, other countries far less capable of handling a refugee influx have committed to help many thousands more than has the US.

Do I not hate terrorism as much as you? Of course we all do. But a solution of closing America's doors completely to outsiders, when we are so capable of helping thousands of INNOCENT people in GENUINE need....that bothers me. Doesn't that seem like a knee-jerk reaction to you? As Elise Labott said, the Statue of Liberty would "bow its head in anguish" at that.

heck pay no attention to Isis they are a JV team!

Heck vote for bernie and lets live in a socialistic commune together!
QUOTE

I seriously wonder what you mean by "our own" here...

QUOTE
Screw you liberal freaks! Let obama take your money and share it. He aint getting no more of mine!

Your inflammatory attitude aside, I suggest you check your facts on this one. This is a good read, and note the chart titled "Percent change in public debt". If you comprehend the chart, it shows that GWB increased the national debt by a larger percentage than Obama, up to this point.
QUOTE
and god yes I loved W. I miss him every single day!

Why exactly you loved W is a mystery to me!

QUOTE
Its funny that two of the worst presidents of all time happened in my lifetime and i didnt vote for either of the  idjits (carter and Obama)

I think instead of being so blindly partisan, that you take just a minute to question why you believe certain things, and whether things might not be so simple or one-sided as you think.

It seems like a certain segment of America just doesn't like anyone different.

Just tracking them...heck...how about the following suggestions:

Why not just round them up and put them in the dessert like America did to the people of japanese ancestry during WWII (of which over 66% were US citizens).

Go back a little further and just pass legistration to ban the immigration of a whole nationality or religion like America did with the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.

Just the latest tidbit from the Donald. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Donald Trump: Presidential Candidate Says He 'Would Certainly Implement’ Database to Track Muslims

“I would certainly implement that. Absolutely,” Trump told NBC News Thursday in Newton, Iowa. When asked if Muslims would be legally forced to register, he said, “They have to be — they have to be.”

I appreciate your passion, but what makes you believe that any of the current candidates can magically solve these issues, would be interesting to know. if you think the past 8 years was a disaster, how do you view GWB's term? and if THAT was a disaster, imagine what damage some of the misogynistic, headline-hungry, and ill-informed gop candidates could do with just 4 years in office...hmm.
