Certainly is ridiculous to me. Why we are wasting important government time on something so trivial and should have gone away a long time ago I have no clue.

Being in the military, I feel I need to comment on this.

THIS IS STUPID! I dont know what makes a person think that they are better than somone else just because the other person is Gay/Lesbian. How stupid can you be. I have been deployed several times and fought and bled next to hundreds of good men and women: Both Straight and Homosexual. One does not fight better than the other! I have had friends kicked out of the Army for being homsexual that will now get their just due! They will get back pay and benifits that they deserve!

The fact that it took the Senate getting invovled to get to this point is absurd!

Disclaimer: I have no position on gays in the military. However, I do think the decision should be made by the Pentagon, not politicians. Just sayin'.

I heard an interesting discussion the other day. Someone asked what would happen if an officer gave an order to a gay soldier in battle and the soldier refused claiming discrimination. Not saying it would happen. But now that the law is changed, it could happen.

Just a thought to ponder...

The civilians are the ultimate bosses, hence the
President being known as the Commander in Chief, the
Secretary of Defense is the direct boss of the Joint Chiefs
of Staff, etc.

One would hope and assume the same exact result
of a "straight" soldier/marine/sailor/airman making the
same claim.

A thorough investigation of the occurence and circumstances
involved followed by recommendations of administrative
action/Court Martial charges or no action taken at all. That's
the way it's done, regardless of the sexual orientation of the
claimant. The armed forces have been dealing with charges
of "discrimination" from time immemorial. They've pretty much
got it down.

I agree with cdoyal in that civilians should not be making, removing, changing, or otherwise effecting military standards and regulations in any way.

I only spent one year in the Army, but it was long enough to know how things are run in the military, and long enough to understand why things are the way they are. I have no problem with gays in the military, my problem with this entire thing has been that civilians are changing military regulations, and they should have no place there.

On that note, if it were that way, what would protect the citizens from the military?

Anyone willing to go through basic training, go to a Specialized school, put on a gun and uniform and fight for this country should be allowd to be in the army, neavy, marines, and air force, etc should have the right to serve in our military. No matter whether they are gay straight, purple orane or what ever!

The civilians have been in charge of the U.S. military
for 230+ years.

In all honesty the "people" don't run the military or for that matter anything! People being more then one. OK so we will say unit 298 is giving a order they don't feel is right. The refuse to follow that order. They are Dishonorably-Discharged. And maybe court-marshalled and sent to jail! Those are part of the people. So do the "people" really run anything? Just how I feel, maybe my thoughts are far out there?

Don't ask don't tell was a crazy/stupid policy from Day 1
