Titans fans, post your thoughts and observations here!
I haven't been watching very much of the preseason, but I'm very ready for the regular season to get here.
I think our passing offense will greatly improve this year, as Collins has a new weapon with Nate Washington and more time to work with Justin Gage. The Titans also put a formidable group of tight ends on the field with Scaife, Crump, and the young Cook.
Rough start on offense for us today against the Texans - until Chris Johnson busted a 57-yard touchdown run on third-and-long, that is.
And the Texans somehow miss Chris Johnson playing receiver - easy 69 yard touchdown.
Nice job not calling the late hit by Dunta Robinson refs....
This game is like baby shampoo right now - Johnson and Johnson.
How can you leave either Johnson wide open?
Oy this is going bad fast.
21-21, if Jones' catch is upheld.
I think it should be....but Murphy's catch (similar to this) was overturned last week for the Raidaz..
Edit: Confirmed. They need to become more consistent with officiating.
Ugh this game is becoming infuriating.
Penalties, penalties....no rushing game unless it's a big run.
Chris Johnson 91 yards for the very long touchdown!
The guy has 179 RUSHING yards, which makes for around 248 total.
What's up with the penalties?
WHOO!
Wonderful special teams playing.....Jones fumbled it and we picked it up....whoohoo.
Now CJ needs another TD. He's got me 53 points in fantasy so far. Can he get me 60?
Man officiating is horrible today.
What about the punt fumble that we should have been allowed to keep? He couldn't catch the ball, even if he did call a fair catch. The ball has to hit the ground my rear, BOLOGNA!
Way to be DUMB!!
If you get in a fight and there are ejections....that's bad. Could be suspensions.
AND AN EJECTION, NICE JOB JASON JONES!
Gotta convert on offense.
FANTASTIC job Collins. Fumble when nobody hits you and lose the game.
What a horrible game today.
Under a 50% completion percentage for Collins, who threw 2 picks. His last 13 passes of the game were incomplete - yes, 13.
If he has many more ineffective games like this....Vince Young.
Oh, and we need an entirely new special teams unit on the return game.
Why were they throwing? Why didn't they run Chris Johnson more? THAT is the one guy I fear.
This is our sign of the year!
22 carries for 97 yards altogether for the game.
He would bust a couple of good runs only to go 3 and out due to the passing game.
I admit the problem isn't entirely Collins - the receivers didn't look up to par today either.
We lost 3 of our first 4 games a few years back and still made the playoffs.
The year isn't over, but we put ourselves in a pretty significant hole.
No, 0-3 doesn't mean we are the Lions.
If we don't tighten up soon we will be in trouble - Colts and Patriots are coming up.
start vince young
Just hand off to Chris Johnson. Something big will happen sooner or later.
Chris Johnson is second in the league in yardage behind AP.
Why aren't we using the rushing attack right now?
First two drives we have thrown on first down rather than use CJ.
We are sucking right now.
1. Chris Johnson - you are doing great but know where the 1st down line is before running out!
2. Kerry Collins - goodness!
3. Playcalling - 3rd and 1....Kerry Collins roll-out? Come on guys, goodness!
atleast your not the browns
Never thought I would say the Lions are better than the Titans.
...and CJ fumbles
What a BOLOGNA call on that touchdown for the Jaguars!
Give Louis Murphy back in week 2 a touchdown if you are going to call that junk. The guy never even hit the ground....and the ref even said he had "three feet down".
BENCH COLLINS RIGHT NOW!
Titans look terrible. I have given up all hope in them for this year. They might as well play VY the rest of the season to see if they should draft a QB for next year.
At least the other team I root for is having a great year. Go Bengals!
The Titans have a few bright spots:
- Chris Johnson
- Kenny Britt
- Our group of tight ends
Titans are officially 0-4.
I think he had one. And two interceptions.
I guess all the blame goes on Collins, even though Garrard looked like Peyton Manning out there today
I've placed blame on the defense too - many times.
What about Chuck Cecil the new Definsive Coordinator?
I really don't think that just b/c Haynesworth left our defense got that bad but who knows.
The loss of Haynesworth gives the quarterbacks more time to find a play, but Haynesworth can't be used as an excuse for horrible pass coverage.
Collins had 2 total. One rush, one pass.
Just one throwing though - not good when talking TD/INT ratio and all that.
Vince might do no better than Kerry Collins. But, as Sports Illustrated said it is evident that our future is not "now" - and it definitely isn't Collins. Next year we will have to make a big decision regarding VY - so why not let him play this year to see if he will be our future or not?
And were off
Injury to Jared Cook.
Rushing defense looks good.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.
Pay more attention Cody.
And we make progress and what happens? Alge Crumpler fumbles the ball.
just pitiful......
And a Colts touchdown.
Why are we NOT utilizing Chris Johnson and continuing to rely on Collins?
I'm beginning to blame the coaching staff....like my mother has all along.
We have a fantastic weapon in Chris Johnson, but they don't get him the ball nearly enough. Instead, they repeatedly give the ball to our anemic passing offense.
Bulluck with the pick!
We can't win for losing.
Two holding penalties on Hall. Chris Johnson limping too.
And a false start.
When Chris Johnson does get the ball, he is doing too much "backtracking" and horizontal running tonight, ugh.
What a bad, bad game.
Too many fouls, pass defense falling apart despite a good start to the game. CJ can't get going, receivers can't catch the ball.
Manning is wearin' 'em out.
He's the one wearing the dress.
Collect Hard!,
RGBII
Is Richard watching football?
Strictly between innings.
Collect Hard!,
RGBII
That's a start!
This is ridiculous.
Why don't they put in Vince Young? He can't hurt the team anymore than it already is. Plus, his contract year is next year.
How could he make the team any worse right now?
Collins isn't our future - we need to figure out if Vince will be the "future" or if we need to draft a quarterback.
Which is why they should throw him into the game.
The Titans need to be thinking about the future....keeping an older QB in Collins in the game isn't doing that.
collins is absolutely putrid. They are about to go 0-6 into the bye week after a loss to the Pats next week. Seriously what can it hurt to put in Young? They must REALLY HATE THIS GUY
Apparently it's Fisher's decision to go with Collins. I like Jeff but I don't know what he is thinking.
its Vince young time!
And he gets a first down rushing on his third play.
But, almost threw an interception on his first pass.
And, of course....he throws a good one and Washington drops it.
Freeney on one end and Mathis on the other will make any QB look bad! I think you all will look for a QB in the Draft next year.
Justin
i hate the Titans but let Kenny Britt start over Washington! I also felt bad for Jason McCourty (a college classmate of mine) getting burned by Manning and Wayne all night.
What a complete failure.
For them to give up on VY without giving him the help at WR or the right formations is downright idiotic.
what, no mention of jeff fisher in the manning jersey?
I didn't see anything about it until this morning and that was a glance. I might post once I know more about the whole incident.
Don't fret... One star falls, another star rises......
Tennessee is the only state that can boast this: Megan Fox
The offense looks better already.
Cody the Titan should have no problem with the Jags. If the Rams won the Titans should win!
TD Vince Young to Washington!
10-0.
13-7!
And Chris Johnson has arrived.
89 yard touchdown for CJ.
He was so tired and exhausted that he couldn't make it to the bench....he lost his lunch in the endzone I think.
2-6!
Vince Young played another smart game and Chris Johnson went off again on the ground....
Chris Johnson already with a 28-yard rushing touchdown and Vince Young with a passing TD against Buffalo.
imagine if VY started when he should have.
Yup.
He did have an interception today but look at the record, 3-0.
17-25, 210 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception.
Chris Johnson - first franchise RB to rush for 100 and catch 100. 132 rushing, 100 receiving.
Finally.
In honesty I'm not going to say Vince is a better overall QB than Collins (Collins has been around a LONG time), but right now he is.
Chris Johnson is the only reason we have a chance. He's been consistent all year though; I think this is his fifth or sixth game over 100.
The VY effect:
Titans average scoring for the first six games: 14
Titans average scoring for the last three games: 35
Johnson is a beast
It looks like they are on the right track now the D has stepped it up!
You all have a big game Monday against the Texans! Should be a battle of the offenses!
Justin
I'm thinking playoffs! If we hadn't d***** around for the first 6 games, we'd be in great shape
WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!
WAY TO GO VINCE!!!!!
Vince Young baby!
Who said Vince Young could not be a legit quarterback?
Nice redemption for Kenny Britt.
Amazing game.
Indeed. Was a little ticked after the fumble but he more than made it up for it.
Vince got it done through the air....nearly 400 yards altogether.
I am so happy right now. I started going crazy when I saw the play.
Me too....like we won the Super Bowl or something.
Game stats:
Vince Young: 27-43, 387 yards, 1 touchdown
Chris Johnson: 18 carries, 154 yards
Ugh, back to the bad Titans defense once again.
But the offense looks GOOD.
1. Nate Washington, catch the ball.
2. NATE WASHINGTON, CATCH THE BALL!
Dear Titans,
Why can't you all play like Vince Young, Chris Johnson, and Kenny Britt?
Nice Young-to-Britt TD.
But why in the world can't the rest of our players be smart? BIG penalty by Toni Brown for jawing and fighting....dumb!
Dear Rams,
Why can't you play like the Titans?
Any playoff hopes are gone.
But....after week 6 did we really expect to get there?
I don't think 9-7 will get it in the AFC.
Steelers (despite the loss), Jags, Broncos, etc.
Chris Johnson passed 1500 yards today.
4 more games for 500 yards.
I'd love to see the titans win out to hopfully have a chance at the playoffs. San Diego is looking like a pretty darn good team as of now though, so that could be a little tough. Jags will fall to what their record really should be which is no more than .500, at best. Steelers are looking miserable, so i guess we never know.
I think the Titans WILL win out, and hopefully it works out.
Chris Johnson is a monster.
One rushing touchdown (30ish yards) and one receiving touchdown for 66 yards.
No, VY is out.
Titans barely hang on for the win today against the Dolphins.
Chris Johnson had a "mediocre" Chris Johnson game, barely going over 100.
Vince Young had three touchdowns.
they are very much still in the playoff picture
What a year.
The Titans become the first team to start 0-6 and finish with a .500 record. Chris Johnson becomes the 6th player to reach 2000 rushing yards, and set the record for most yards from scrimmage.
THE 2010 SEASON IS HERE!
The Raaaaaidaz are going down.
Vince Young is in the house....and Vince Young is in the house.
Nice 20 yard run, 11 yard pass, and a fumble.
You are flipping kidding me!
Second sack of the game and a flag?????????
Morgan stumbled and tackled below the knees....and a flag?
Play-action pass touchdown!
Chris Johnson!
And Tulloch with an easy to catch horse collar.
I love the enthusiasm around here! *crickets*
Chris Johnson just rushed for his second touchdown of the day. Vince Young has a 55-yard passing touchdown. Ringer has a 15-yd touchdown.
As I just told my mother, if these guys don't get injured this team is GOOD.
Chris Johnson is a machine built to play football... it's official.
Titans win 38-13.
I was happy about how Vince Young played, and of course, CJ didn't disappoint.
Titans looked good today! I was surprised that the Titans D Line did as well as they did today. Maybe, this year won't be as bad as I thought it would be.
Kenny Britt has some attitude problems which he needs to fix before he continues to play more. Also, he needs to catch the easy ones. If he doesn't fix those problems, I don't believe he should play.
For the record, here are the key stat lines for today's game:
Vince Young:
13-17 passing, 154 yards passing, 2 touchdowns, 1 fumble, 142.8 rating, 30 yards rushing
Chris Johnson:
27 carries, 142 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns (one 76-yard TD)
Javon Ringer:
5 carries, 33 yards rushing, 1 touchdown
Titans defense:
3 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 4 sacks
Don't look for any updates until the game is over.
At home, the Titans are on. On campus, 40-50 miles away - the stinking Vikings are on!
TV Guide says we should be getting the Titans, but instead we get Brett Favre. And by the look of things, the Titans are sucking.
What a day. I am frustrated on so many levels with this team.
Defense - hats off to you. You kept us in this game - somehow. You pressured the QB, stopped the run fairly well, and play a great game.
Offense - what's up with you guys? Chris couldn't get anything going. VY couldn't.
JEFF FISHER - WAY TO GIVE UP ON VINCE YOUNG! I HOPE YOU FEEL HAPPY FOR YOURSELF. PUT IN THE 40 YEAR OLD COLLINS, WHO THROWS A PICK, FUMBLES, ALMOST TIES THE GAME, BUT INSTEAD THROWS A SHORT PASS TO CJ. THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD WITH 10 SECONDS LEFT, NOT SHORT!
Collins - LOL!
I admit, I was basically rooting against the Titans the second half after Fisher put Collins in. I can't believe he would bench Young, who is our future quarterback, over one bad half. I wanted Collins to fail miserably. And, for the most part, he did.
In total - 7 turnovers, <50 rushing yards for CJ, and possibly a big hurt to Vince Young's confidence (thanks Coach!).
I can't believe he would bench Young, who is our future quarterback, over one bad half.
-------------------------------
I'm sorry what? He threw two INT's, fumbled once, and got sacked a countless number of times.
Collins may have screwed up, but at least he made the game interesting.
I have absolutely NO problem with what Jeff Fisher did at all. He said it best in the post game interview, where he basically stated that he wasn't trying to lower Vince's confidence, he was trying to WIN THE GAME. And honestly, Kerry Collins looked better than Vince Young. Young was so embarrassingly bad it was unbelievabe. Just about everything a QB can do wrong in a game, he did. Vince Young, Jeff Fisher, and every Titans fan out there knows Young will be the starter next week.
One last thing -- what is all this pity for Vince Young and his confidence about? WHO CARES? If you get that upset over being benched, you seriously shouldn't be playing a sport on a professional level.
I don't think the Titans would have finished 13-3 with a 10-0 start in '08 with Vince Young under center.
Cody, I think Fisher did the right thing in putting in Collins and it almost won the game. The Steelers were reading Vince, it happens and a change was needed. I think some of CJs problems were because Vince could not get anything going passing wise. If he had it might have opened up the field and some lanes for CJ. In addition, CJ had a TD run nullified by a holding penalty, not CJs fault.
I don't think this impacts VY as much as you think considering how bad he played, what if he stayed in and got picked a few more times would that have been any better for his psyche? I have to say I think Fisher did the right thing.
Week 3:
Titans 29, Giants 10 (with a couple minutes left)
VY: 10/16, 118 yards, 1 TD
CJ: 32 rushes, 125 yards, 2 TD
Thanks to the Giants offensive line and defense for so many personal fouls (and the safety was nice too, gracias Bradshaw)..
Wow. I only watched a couple series of this game, but boy was it chippy...
The Titans came away with a surprising win over the Dallas Cowboys, 34-27.
Kudos to our amazing D-Line, which totaled six sacks. In addition, Chris Johnson ran for over 130 and 2 touchdowns. Despite being non-existent for a good deal of the game, our secondary did come away with three interceptions, including one that by rookie CB Verner which led to a TD.
Watched the whole game today. I'm pretty impressed with the Titans, with the exception of Vince Young. Yes, he does pose as a threat to many defenses with his ability to run, but he makes flat out dumb decisions sometimes (not just this week, but through the first 5 weeks). If he can step up his game, and still have CJ be consistent, they can definitely be a good playoff contender.
This man:
Was the first Titans receiver to pass 200 yards in a game since this man:
Kenny Britt, after an altercation in a bar Thursday, was forced to sit out the first half.
He came back with a vengeance, putting up 225 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Titans win 37-19.
I'm ticked I didn't start Britt this week...
Despite an early injury to Britt, the Titans passing game is looking good.
Even on his incompletions, Vince is making some great throws. The unknown receivers are coming out - Stevens, Cook, Hawkins, Williams.
Titans up 12-7 halfway through the 2nd quarter.
19-7 Titans.
And penalties kill us.
Griffin - interception for a TD but called back for holding on Griffin.
Babin - Gates gets a TD, and he hits Rivers lows way after the play.
Now Chargers up 24-17.
And Vince is hurt again.
And the Titans choke.
Chris Johnson can't catch.
Games like this are discouraging because the Titans really should have had this won. Not too worried though, I've still got plenty of faith.
My frustrating with this team continues to grow.
Despite the 5-4 record after today's loss, in my opinion the season is in jeopardy.
Kerry Collins started the first half throwing for a truly magnificent 51 yards, throwing to Moss only 3 times. The defense, while at times spectacular, leaves too many receivers open. Vince Young comes in after halftime, and while he throws for more yards (in just a little over a quarter surpassing Collins' 51), begins with a fumble.
Young's touchdown pass to Washington led me to think that the team had a chance, but then the defense gives up a TD from the hands of 3rd-string quarterback Tyler Thigpen.
Finally, the game ends with a sack of Young and an interception.
By far, today's game shows that Collins will not get this team anywhere (in my opinion). Young isn't perfect but can get more done. Our defense needs a tune-up. We have hard workers on the front line and in the secondary, but they leave too many holes and are undisciplined.
Vince Young was really abysmal. Unfortunately Kerry Collins wasn't ANY better at all. Their whole QB situation is so pedestrian.
Well, my favorite Titan is gone.
Earlier this week the Titans announced they will either trade or release quarterback Vince Young. Many Titans fans rejoiced at this move, but not me. I enjoyed having Vince as QB, even though he did make many mistakes and has some issues. I have always though that he may have turned out differently if he had the support and trust of his coach. Jeff Fisher never wanted Vince Young, and as a result never gave him a chance.
As a pocket passer Vince greatly improved this year, with a high passer rating and a 8-2 TD/INT ratio. And, you cannot forget his W/L record of 30-17 with the team. Good luck to Vince wherever he goes. I am thinking the 49ers, Raiders, Vikings, or Panthers could be options right now.
I am disappointed to see that Fisher will be back next year.
Hopefully we move up in the draft to take a QB or something.
As long as Kerry doesn't start....Smith isn't much better.
The Titans have the 8th pick this year, they shouldn't have to trade up.
Is there even value in this year's quarterback draft class? Maybe I haven't been following closely enough, but no names stand out to me.
Oz
Ryan Mallett, Blaine Gabbert, and Jake Locker will all probably be first-rounders. That's pretty good compared to last year when Sam Bradford was the only 1st-Round QB and he went #1 overall.
Well, Fisher is gone.
It was time for a change. 90% of Titans fans disagree with me, but Fisher was not getting it done. He did provide stability for most of his tenure, but he was beginning to even lose that (VY drama, losing two or three coaches in the last three weeks, etc). 1999-2003 were his best years - the departure of McNair and George soon after hurt him.
Reports are Vince Young will still be gone; although I would love to see him back as a Titan, for him this would be the best move. Since Fisher was fired, I could not imagine the amount of boos Vince would receive at the first home game from bitter fans.
I hope they can pry away Gregg Williams from the Saints. We may not have a quarterback, but with discipline our defense can be great.
With the 20th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Titans chose WR Kendall Wright from Baylor.
I expected defensive help, but help at receiver is always needed. I hope that Damian Williams still gets a chance this year; he played well to end the year last year.
Williams will get a chance this year with Britt out again possibly. Look for Harper to get a lot of playing time if CJ does not get off to a hot start.
