OK... I was an idiot the other morning.

Every morning before work I like to bring my cereal and OJ up and read the news on my laptop on my desk while eating breakfast.

I spilled the OJ. Directly onto my PS3. It's the fat PS3. Everything is working perfectly fine, all the games and discs are read perfectly and there are no internal issues.

After I let the system dry for a day or two, I noticed the felt lining in the disc loader is dried out and is now stiff from the OJ. The games load fairly well but when I eject it's almost like they get stuck on the cloth and have to force their way through. It leaves some smudges and streaks on the discs and it is absolutely driving me crazy.

I've poked around online and the most logical solution I can find is to dab it with a q-tip with rubbing alcohol.

I assume noone has had this issue before but am wondering if some of you gaming folks can give me your best educated guess solutions...

The q-tip thing might work! Or maybe use go-gone (at your own risk). I personally would take the whole thing apart (done it many times with my ps2) but that also voids the warranty. I don't care because might went out the window years ago! Alcohol will clean stuff like that but will also dry stuff out! So it might not be the best thing. Thats about all I can tell you. cool.gif Good luck. wink.gif

Yeah the warranty is long gone, I've had this thing for about 3 years now if not longer... Good point about the alcohol drying things out... it's just so frustrating! I will probably try the q-tip tomorrow and hope for the best. sad.gif

Just use water on the q-tip first, might take a few times. But is also a lot safer. If it works great if not then try the next set with the alcohol!

Alcohol really shouldn't cause any problems (as long as you let everything dry before starting it again), and if it was me, I'd use it because it'll clean things better than water will.

Also, it was mentioned before, but I'd take it apart. If there is any residue inside, you should clean it up. Anything inside of it could cause a short at some point later and then the whole thing is garbage.

Yeah I agree with the others, the Q-Tip alcohol thing should probably work. It might not be a bad idea to take this problem to the playstation.com forums to see if anyone there could help you out, I'm sure someone would have a good remedy.

Taking most things like this is not that hard! In my PS2 there is only like 4-5 big parts to it and a few little things. Just make out a sheet of paper and put the parts on it and list it 1,2,3,4,5, etc and when you go to put it back together go in reverse! wink.gif

It was either Quaker Oatmeal Squares or Stop and Shop brand 'Honey Nut Cheerios'... the cereal wasn't the problem. It was the Pure Premium Tropicana laugh.gif ... Luckily it was pulp-free.

Tonight, I begin the touch-up...

The alcohol didn't seem to do much difference at all. I'm going to seriously consider getting a slim PS3 and just transferring everything. I can't deal with the scratches the cloth is leaving.
