Collector Zone _ Basketball _ Getting back into Limited Hoops Collecting

Posted by: captkirk42 Feb 22 2012, 05:32 PM

I blame blogging for this. Anybody who has been sort of keeping tabs on my Blogger blog (http://captkirk42.blogspot.com) may have seen my recent influx of Basketball posts. They are mostly of '70s Bullets which was when I was really into basketball. I started to lose interest in the sport around the early 80s before Micheal Jordan was even a rookie back when player's attitudes were getting awful and the Uniforms were getting sloppy and baggy.

My renewed interest was a few months to about a year or so back when I finally completed the 1975-76 Topps Bullets Team set, that was one of the few years I had actaully gotten any basketball cards as a kid. I decided what the heck. Since I still am not much into basketball my collecting goals for this are Just Bullets Pre-1980, with some vintage stars from the mid70s and maybe some 60s stars (the guys I remember reading and hearing about). I am sort of interested in later Bullets and Wizards Base cards ONLY.

I'm toying with the idea of getting into the Viginia Squires since they were originally the Washington Caps (sadly yes basketball had a Washington Caps team before Hockey did) and I've got the Topps 75-76 Squires Team leaders card already. The "Caps" an ABA team moved to VA and became the Squires in 1970 they disbanded in '76 the year of the NBA-ABA merger.
