HELENA, Mont.—Authorities believe former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf might have broken into Montana homes in search of prescription drugs over the past 1½ years. He will face a judge Monday in his latest criminal case.

Police arrested Leaf after a month-long investigation that culminated with Leaf breaking into an acquaintance's home to steal prescription pain medication, the task force commander who led the probe said Saturday.

Other victims to come forward, Central Montana Drug Force Commander Chris Hickman said.

"We do have some information that this may not be an isolated incident," Hickman said.

Leaf faced a similar accusation in 2008, when he was accused of burglarizing a player's home while he was a quarterbacks coach for Division II West Texas A&M. An investigation turned up that Leaf had obtained nearly 1,000 pain pills from area pharmacies in an eight-month span. He reached a plea agreement that gave him 10 years' probation.

Sad, how often we hear bad stories about former players like this.

I thought he was a high school football coach in Texas?

I thought this was deja vu but he's been arrested again - for a 2nd time on Monday. Similar charges.

So to recap, he gets arrested Friday on charges of burglary and drug possession. He posts bail, then gets charged again on Monday for similar charges for an incident on Sunday.

What a weekend!

Really, this is just a sad story. Guy had everything a lot of us would die for and he wasted it away. The really sad part is the guy has been trying to beat his inner demons. He spoke recently about being sober for 18 months and changing his lifestyle. I heard he approached the NFL about speaking at the annual Rookie Symposium to warn the new rookies against the pitfalls of sudden fame & money.

Sincerely hope he gets his life together.

It could be a cry for help. He can't fix his own life. A guy in Maine begged the judge to send him to jail. He said rehab didn't help. He thought being on inside he could go cold turkey. It's a sad world some times.
