Collector Zone _ Wrestling _ 3/13 Raw - Classic or Tasteless?!?

Posted by: jaderock Mar 14 2006, 05:25 AM

The main angle was that McMahon ordered Michaels to take a urine test for drugs. After taking it, Michaels say "it's better to be pissed off than to be pissed on" and threw the cup of "urine" on both Shane and Vince McMahon.

Was this funny or tasteless?!? I was laughing in my mind and figured it was going to happen. I think McMahon was trying to recreate one of those "RAW moments" that you don't forget like Stone Cold Steve Austin spraying beer on McMahon, Rock etc.

Depending on how they continue the angle through WM, I think they succeeded in creating a New Classic moment. What employee wouldn't want to throw a cup of liquid at your hated boss?!?

Definately toilet humor, but funny! McMahon was a roit!

I think Raw and wrestling has gotten more torwards mature audience viewing, with stunts like this. Maybe it is how the world has changed from when I grew up watching it. Give me a good old wrestling match with Bruno Samartino without all the hype and I am happy. Even the goofy stunts of the 80s with the Iron Sheik, etc does not compare to the stuff going on today.

Where I am concerned is the effects this kind of programming has on our youth. I think kids do not differentiate that this is not reality and that was really not what was in the jar.

I never saw Vern wreslte, but as owner of the AWA he DESTROYED wrestling's popularity in SF and AWA in general back in the early/mid 80s. The old geezer couldn't kept Hogan, Okerlund, and the Road Warriors cause he was SOOOOO cheap. He was also famous for screwing the fans with his CONSTANT advertisement of fake lineups knowing full well that the wrestlers were fired, not available, injured etc. Furthermore, the "fake" title changes" in each city (only to have the commissioner reverse the decision on TV the next week) burned the fan base to the ground.

I didn't see the Hall of Fame part on TV...I doozed off for 10-15 minutes.

Ive nvr heard of him either so I could care less if Gagne is inducted or not.I think most of the stuff that the McMahons have been trying lately is hilarious but with Michaels throwing urine at Shane and Vince I think that was a little to out there but hey it wont stop me from watching wrestling laugh.gif

I only remember Vern as a wrestler... not as promoter/manager owner..

he used to wrestle on NWEA shows from KC back when I was 7-10 years old and occasionally on wrestling at the chase out of St Louis!

A Lot of stars cut their teeth there including ric Flair, harley race..etc!!

Brett hart
Eddie Guerrero
Scary Sherri (sensational sherri!)

Heck with the youth - what about the effects it has on the adults. McMahon just gave me an idea - if "our boss (are you listening BOB) pisses us off then I know what to do!!!" laugh.gif

So bottom line - Bob - don't have us take a pee test - OK?!?

But seriously, the effects are what the parents allow - it's their responsibility. The show DOES have at least a PG rating (I never pay attention). I do remember back in 1998-2000 when kids were getting in trouble for telling girls/adults to go "---- it" which was a DX catch phrase! So yes wrestling CAn effect our youths, but so does other things like rap/heavy metal, video games, movies etc.

Most younger folks didn't even know wrestling existed before Hulk Hogan which is a shame. Pro wrestling history is rich with regional stars and territories. I grew up with Ray Stevens, Pat Patterson and Pepper Gomez in SF!

And nothing has ever kept me from watching wrestling.

You are correct all of those things are having a negative impact on our youth, so does having lockdoor parents (two working parents). Unfortunately it is the state of our world. Can't afford two cars and a big house without both parents working, unless one has a really great job.

I agree that a parent has to be involved, but can a parent control what movie their kid goes to see or every moment during their day at school or home. No.

I am just not getting it. Like horror films. I love a good horror films, but they have gone over the edge with movies like House of 1000 corpses, Devil's Rejects, Saw, and Hostile. How much violence and torture (etc.) do we want to program into us and our children. It has gotten to the point where in order to solve differences we pull out a 9mm and shoot someone, as opposed to settling differences by talking, or worst case punching.

Acting out, that throwing urine on your boss when you have a disagreement is the right thing to do, is just very immature and classless on the McMahons part. Especially on TV (a virtually limit free environment) where children who do not understand, can watch it.
